I don't think this would be enough, but I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm preferential to keeping Julien than Miranda, though. I would say it would take another top 20 prospect if not including Julien.

Trade Deadline: Scenarios for Your Minnesota Twins
SotaSports in NM commented on wyatt's blog entry in GM: What? Like It's Hard?
You traded Gabby Gonzalez twice (for Luzardo and Alonso)... Fun exercise. What do you do with the guys manning those roster spots? -
Maybe it's me being closed minded, but I didn't even read the article. It's just a hard no. We don't need him, especially when healthy, and any prospect capital should go to starting pitching or offense.

Severino has been disappointing me with his response to the challenge of being a Miguel Sano type of bat. I wasn't very hopefully to begin with, but the comp popped back in my head with the Angels series coming up.

Can Randy Dobnak Resurrect His Career in 2024?
SotaSports in NM replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still have nightmares of Yankees fans mocking him on the mound chanting "Uber, Uber, Uber" during his rough tough playoff outing... See you back in the bigs soon, Randy! -
I wasn't able to watch the game today (screw you MLBTV and your technical difficulties). How did Martin's at-bats look today? Sounds like Jeffers' were even worse than the first two games?

It's a tiny bit concerning to see the offense's strikeout numbers thus far ( I hate myself for even typing that after only 3 games), because I was really looking forward to addition by subtraction in that regard without Gallo and MAT, along with better lineup health. It is a good point, however, that the gameplay today was to be aggressive.

Well written, well researched, and thought provoking. Like one of the previous comments, I think it's inevitable that Buck provides more than 2 WAR (assuming he's as healthy to start the year as he seems). I'd hate to see Lee go, but for the right controllable pitcher I'd be on board. I'm also more conservative with Lewis, but can't deny that I expect a very productive year from him. As a non-gambling man, I'd also pound the under on your estimate of 30 homers allowed by Ryan. I don't think he's going to solve his HR problem, but I think he takes a step in the right direction. I have many other thoughts on this that I need to gather in my head...

Fundy does have 12 strikeouts in 8.2 innings this spring. From what I've seen hits against him haven't been hard contact, and the 5 walks isn't all that concerning because as a young pitcher he could be tuning his pitches in spring (like all pitchers do, really). I'd actually be surprised if he doesn't replace Thielbar, with Alcala getting Duran's spot and Staumont/Sands getting the last spot.

I haven't seen anyone talk about the fact that this trade was made a week after the start of spring training. It seems to me that they watched Martin get in some OF reps and decided they needed better insurance. I still like Martin as a versatile contributor, but I can't fault the process. For all the trades that haven't worked out, the FO at least has been getting a decent prospect included in deals. In this case they even got an upgrade (subjectively, allegedly) in that regard. Margot definitely isn't exciting, but the low strikeout percentage is a very welcome improvement.from last year.

Remembering Random Twins - Dillon Gee
SotaSports in NM commented on William Malone's blog entry in William Malone IV blogs about Twins
I love this retrospective! Awesome idea for publications. -
A contending team shouldn't be content with more than a couple question marks as starters. Kiriloff is unreliable and is an above average platoon guy for maybe 120 at best, anyways. Miranda is a bigger question mark and shouldn't be counted on. Hoskins is indeed a perfect fit, and I'd do my best to clear space to get Pohlad approval. My biggest argument here is our ALCS series vs the Astros (not to mention the remainder of the playoffs, i.e the Texas Rangers). It's another reminder that the true contenders can seriously hurt you with more than half of the lineup. The Twins didn't and don't have that, and Kiriloff or Miranda won't change it. Keller absolutely could be had via trade because of the financial implications for one of the cheapest teams in the sport. Yea, his extra control will cost a pretty penny, but I Wallner, Festa, Mercedes and Varland/SWR or another 10-20 prospect is absolutely something I would do. Again, look at the true contenders from last year (and pretty much every prior year). They all have a very good 1-2-3 punch in the rotation, if not an elite 1-2 punch. Keller puts us right back in that category. I'm not going to repeat my agreement about Carlson/Bader. I like the Moore, but I think this likelihood went out the window when Pagan got 16 mil over 2 years. Moore is going to get a similar deal, I imagine. Not saying I wouldn't do it (though I wouldn't), I'm saying the Pagan deal takes Moore out of our price range. Having said all this, our contention window isn't closing. So I could absolutely argue against everything I just said lol

If $16mm over two years is what it takes for Emilio I can't imagine that the Twins ever considered an offer. Yes, he was certainly improved last year, but that just shows the volatility of non-elite relievers and proves the point that a mid-level reliever like him isn't worth that investment. Unless ownership is increasing payroll because a new TV happens to fall in their lap lol...

Hans draws a nice comparison with Cohen's prospect-buying ways. I'm not entirely opposed to this trade, considering we could issue a QO at the end of the year. I agree we could use another middle-of-the-order bat to help out the youngsters, but I'm more inclined to use this kind of trade for a front line starter.

I don't want to be a doomsday crazy guy, but a starting rotation of Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddock, Varland might get us a division title in a bad division, but that won't win a playoff series, I think. To win past the Wild Card series, at least, you've got to have a very good 1-2 (and even 3) punch. I'm not saying we need to win the ALCS next year (especially because 2025, 2026 are going to be huge opportunities for us), but we need a true Sonny Gray replacement (or the man himself) if we're going to do so (yes it's risky business for a big Sonny deal, but dare I say we can afford it (considering Vasquez and Polo off the books in 27, Kep in 26, and the plethora of rookie deals to be in effect)? Yes, despite uncertainty with the TV deal. Yea, I haven't checked the payroll math, but nonetheless. I'm more confident in a SG deal of 3 for $75 than a Maeda deal for 2 for $15 mil (as has been discussed here). Granted, though. Our offense in 24 should be more potent than 23, with full seasons from healthier Lewis, Correa, Polo, and maybe even improvements from the kids (although regression is just as likely). I'm sorry for a long rant, but in addition to building pitching depth back up, I think we need to make a move for an equivalent of Sonny Gray, or at least a better #2 than Ryan/Ober, to get back to the ALCS. If it's gonna be a no -Sonny Gray, it'll be via trade.

What a thrilling game to watch! So glad for this win. We started the game with some great at-bats and worked the count, but after the 3rd inning it felt like we lost our offensive composure a little bit (granted, Gausman stepped it up a bit in the fourth and their pen kept us off balance). I like the pitching decisions. I was a little worried about the replacements coming in - we all knew Rocco would do that. Thankfully one of those replacements closed it out with a great reaction at 1st.

Because of our lineup's propensity to disappear (albeit to a lesser degree in the second half, especially September), I would prefer the Rangers over the Mariners. We've shown we can handle Texas. It looks like that's how things are gonna shake, anyways.

Game Thread: Reds 9/18 5:40 cdt
SotaSports in NM replied to Richie the Rally Goat's topic in Archived Game Threads
Haven't been able to turn the game on yet but just saw the box so far. With all the pitchers the Reds are going through already, it feels like we're gonna see position players on the mound. -
I was completely wrong about Caleb. I thought 2020 was a fluke and I didn't think he deserved a roster spot in 2021. I'm so glad that I was incredibly wrong. His presence and reliability have allowed us to spend money elsewhere and not have to resort to an inflated FA reliever or trade to fill his bullpen spot (this comment is meant to be viewed in a vacuum, ignoring the bullpen trades we made last year that were unrelated to his roster spot). We damn well better bring him back next year. Even with regression he will be more reliable than the handful of guys in the minors that we've tried to use this year.

I'd do the trade again every time. I love Arraez, and did so at the time of the trade, but I looked forward to trading him. With his lack of slugging and poor defense (all due respect to Ely, but in several games I've seen him play for the Marlins he has NOT been average in the field), I remember most often viewing him as replaceable. I feel like an idiot for calling a batting champ replaceable, but that's how I projected him. He is a joy to watch (though only when in the batter's box and in interviews), but his biggest value was trade bait. He did a great job for us in many regards. I hope he continues to kick ass and gets a great contract when the time comes. I just appreciate that it won't be from us (or will it?? 😁)

I was watching the Vikings game instead of the Twins, and I feel bad for missing Maeda go 7 innings! Not to mention that beautiful swing Eddy put on that home run. It's also getting easy to take Lewis for granted with his consistency this year, in spite of his injury interruptions. I admire his skill and persistence. In all seriousness, when was the last time Maeda went 7 innings?? Not because of ineffectiveness (necessarily), but simply because of workload... I know, it was against the error-ridden South Siders, but nonetheless. I still think he's best suited as a piggy-back guy for the playoffs, though. EDIT: I found that this was just the third time in in his last 40 starts that he's gone 7 innings, and the second time this year. This is the kind of win that a playoff team gets against an inferior team. Love to see us stop playing down to the competition.
