  1. The season is all but over now. I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Great timing for the NFL to start though. These losses made my transition from baseball season to football season a lot easier.
  2. Did anyone notice how small of a lead Hamilton had when he tried to steal third? I know he's known for his speed but that didn't look like a good steal opportunity in the slightest.
  3. Very interesting stuff. Gary really stands out to me in that he has already exceeded his average numbers of doubles, but needs 20 more HRs. Prior to this year, he had 78 career doubles and 138 HRs, and not a single season in which he hit more doubles than HRs, so I guess he is getting pretty unlucky in that his deep fly balls aren't going out as much as they did in previous years. His statcast numbers indicate that he is hitting the ball just as hard as in previous years, so it may just be luck, or it may be from changing home fields. I just want to point out that the OPS numbers probably aren't correct. Buxton has a .843 OPS so far this year, so he wouldn't need a .907 OPS the rest of the season to end up with a .770 OPS.
  4. I guess we can't have nice things around here. Just when you thoughts things were turning for the better we lose what may be our best pitcher... And to rub salt in the wound we get to see Pagan in the 3rd inning.
  5. What in the world was Rooker doing on that play? I know we sometimes say that anyone could do better than player A, but in this case, I think any of us here could quite literally have made a better throw than him.
  6. The movement on Sands' pitches look really nice. If he can just learn to control them he can make hitters look silly.
  7. We finally have a comfortable lead. I'd like to see Sands for the last 2 innings, we haven't seen him in a while.
  8. As good as the Dodgers lineup is, with Jax-Fulmer-Duran-Lopez, we likely only need 2 or 3 more runs to win this game. Not easy, given the quality of the lineup, but definitely doable.
  9. The Dodgers broadcast is oozing with confidence and you can see why. Down 2 runs and they are talking like the game is just getting started.
  10. So thankful to have him. He's more or less hitting like Larnach was (with better contact) and the underlying stats back it up. If you add in the defensive flexibility and speed, he's one of the best utility men in the game. Not to mention he might even add a little more power as he gets even healthier. He could be the prime Marwin Gonzalez that we never got to see.
  11. Exactly. I'd prefer them not to touch him for the time being. Most of our best pitchers are ones that have come from other organizations(Lopez, Gray, Ryan). I don't think that's a coincidence.
  12. It's one thing to start Gordon, Contreras and Cave against a righty, but it is truly horrifying that we have no choice but to start them against a lefty. And we also have Leon in the lineup for good measure. (He has not hit over the mendoza line since 2017!!!) I know it's hard to place blame on anyone with all of the injuries, but I would have liked the Twins to go get a backup right handed hitting OF a la Tommy Pham. He didn't cost much if I remember correctly.
  13. I think Fulmer moves the needle more for the Twins than for any other MLB team. We have Lopez, Duran, Jax and nobody else. Fulmer may be nothing more than a hair above average, but going from Pagan/Smith to Fulmer in mid-leverage situations is going to have a huge effect on the outcome of games.
  14. Machado, Tatis, Soto and Bell. Man is that lineup going to be scary. I wonder what the equivalent would be if the Twins were to make this trade. Gore -> Joe Ryan Abrams -> Royce Lewis Hassell and James Wood -> Kirilloff and Larnach Jarlin Susana -> Matt Canterino Maybe something like this?
  15. His fastball velo is up about 3 mph from where it was when he was a SP, so I think it's safe to say that his performance isn't a fluke! Absolutely love this trade. Lopez alone makes the bullpen look much better. And he is controlled through 2024! Great to have Jax, Duran and Lopez locked in for the next couple of years. I'm honestly not expecting this team to do a whole lot this year, but this is a great investment for future years without completely punting this year.
  16. As other have said, I'm disappointed that it seems like the front office is yet again content with staying pat at the deadline this year. While we were never going to match Seattle's offer for Castillo, I don't see how a team that is in desperate need of a 3rd playoff-caliber starter can't match the Yankees' offer for Montas. If I understand correctly, they weren't even one of the teams in the mix at the end. I'm really curious as to what kind of offer they were making if it wasn't even worth considering for Oakland. On the other hand, compared to the return that Castillo and Montas have garnered, the offseason trade for Sonny Gray looks like an absolute steal. While I don't think Gray is at the caliber of a Castillo or Montas, he is pretty close, and they got him for one prospect that wasn't even in their top 5 prospects. And Gray came with 2 years of control, not 1+ years. I disagree with a lot of the front office's moves, but that was a pretty savvy trade by them.
  17. The Twins ARE nice. Which is why they will grant Rogers with a 1-2-3 9th.
  18. Isn't Grisham supposed to be fast? As good as Buxton is I don't see how you don't go there unless you have a plodder at third.
  19. Just saw on the broadcast that Pagan leads all AL RPs in K/9. It is such a misleading stat. If he knew how to get outs in any other way he would have a much lower ERA.
  20. Sigh. It's going to be 4-2 Padres by the end of the inning.
  21. The problem is, selling teams don't know which offer is the best unless they wait out until the very end to receive all of the offers. Unless there are more sellers than buyers, in which case a team could get severely burned for holding on to their assets, there is no harm in selling teams holding on to their assets until the deadline. The only risk they have is their player getting injured.
  22. I understand the frustration with the bullpen, but I don't think it's fair to blame them for this game. It certainly wasn't great, but 2 ER in 5 IP against a decent Milwaukee lineup is par for the course.
