  1. It is a black eye to MLB that it took them so long and protracted litigation to treat these young men fairly. Glad it is finally accomplished, and also glad MLB players chose to support and negotiate on behalf of the younger, less accomplished brethren.
  2. Homer of Megill today was a first-pitch fastball right down the middle that the left handed Pirate hitter no-doubted out of the stadium. Right fielder never moved. Megill throws hard, but it looks like his fastball has zero movement. Straight as an arrow.
  3. I would not fire sale Kepler at all. He is still a decent player who may hit for higher average with the shift banned. His defense is rock solid and he is, by all accounts, a good clubhouse teammate. I like a potential OF of Gallo-Buxton-Kepler. Terrific speed and range, and good to great arms. Probably best defensive OF in baseball (when Buxton plays). Gordon as backup is solid as well, and Larnach may surprise too. If they can get good pitching for Max, sure, but not just to trade him for mediocre talent.
  4. It is not just the fractured fibula, it is the plate they put in and the likelihood of arthritis setting in. Heck, it might already be present, and it is not going to get better with time. Still expect the Mets and Correa/Boras to hammer out a deal, but with the passage of time things certainly are getting more interesting....
  5. I was also offline all day and fully expected to read tonight that Correa and the Mets had worked out a new deal. Still expect that to happen, but the longer it is taking, the more it seems other options may materialize.
  6. I, too, would be much happier with a higher AAV, shorter deal. Something like 6/$220M would make more sense--to the extent that is even possible--than they decades plus long deals getting signed and are manifestly silly.
  7. 3? 3! Only 3 Twins need to step up? How about more than a dozen!
  8. Twins will--and should--roll with Miranda at 3B this year. Need to see what his glove and bat bring to the future.
  9. Devers much more likely to go to a team "on the brink" of championship to "put them over the top". The fit for the Twins is virtually non-existent. Only one year, probably can't extend him, Twins don't need a 3B, Twins don't need more left handed bats, etc., etc.
  10. If Correa was not the poster child for the Astros' cheating he would never have played for the Twins. He may end up re-signing with the Twins, likely for the same reasons. Teams like the Dodgers simply are not going to infuriate their fan base by signing the guy, even if he would improve their team. Yankees may feel the same way. If he were "clean", he would have signed a mega-deal last offseason and we would not be in the discussion.
  11. Martin tearing up the AFL so far. Batting .500 with a 1231 OPS and 4 SB's too. Wow. If he breaks out, huge shot in the arm for the Twins O and makes the Berrios trade look very good for the home town squad....
  12. I want to try Urshela and Gordon at SS until we see what we have in Lewis and his recovery. I don't want to dump money in that position unless it is for an elite player, e.g., Correa. Otherwise, use that money for a right-handed hitting OF and a Catcher, plus whatever pitching you can find that doesn't break.
  13. I would like the trade, but substitute Meyer for Lopez. We trade good bats for a good arm. We need the arm, they need the bats. Fair re-allocation of resources for both teams. All players have years of team control for both squads.
  14. Barring injury, Correa is gone. Unless you think the Twins are going to pony up a monstrous, long-term contract. Which they shouldn't and will not do. Boras is going to maximize Correa's income and security. And he should, and he will.
  15. I would not want to trade for any of the 3 "short-timer" Oakland SP's unless you have permission to work out a long-term deal with their agents before the trade. Twins are not in a position to be in the 1 or 2 year rental market, and I have zero confidence the team will sign extensions for these players unless it is agreed to ahead of the trade.
  16. Congrats to Jose. Disappointed that the Twins did not think he was worth this $20M/year for an extension. 7 years is certainly risky, but he has been amazingly durable. Time will tell. Thor also gone on a one-year deal for $21M. Big money, but only one year protects against injury risk. Again, seems like a deal that would have been affordable for the Twins, although we are not on the West Coast, either. Agree with poster above: This is a black day for the Twins, and FA so far has been lousy. Nowhere to go but up, right?
  17. Since it is not my money anyways, I would offer Verlander 2/50, and hope he has returned to form. He, when healthy, is the stud we have not had in many years. Backfill the rest of the rotation, preferably with trade with the Marlins for one of their young arms. If it takes a 3rd year option of some type for Verlander, so be it.
  18. The reporting from late last summer is that there was agreement on the base guaranteed salary, but disagreement on the incentives. Have no idea how far apart the two sides were, but that sure sounds like something that could be hammered out if both sides are interested in getting a deal done. Twins FO should be happy to pay the incentives if achieved, and BB gets long-term financial security no matter what happens. Sounds like a Win-Win.
  19. If Gray is the big pitching acquisition, needle does not move much. If he is the second or third SP added, sure. GIven a choice between Gray at $10M x 3 or 4 seasons and Pineda at $7-8M x2, prefer Big Mike. Happy to have both if there is someone else ahead of them.
  20. Verlander, assuming he is back from TJ surgery, big yes, but he will be highly sought after. Kershaw, no thanks. I think he is done, and may just retire.
  21. More college lefties, please! ?
  22. Well, I am old enough to remember a pretty remarkable lefty drafted out of Michigan: Jim Abbott. Late 80's?
  23. Anyone have intel on Povich?
  24. Teams must not believe in Bachman's performance in weaker conference?
  25. I would also note that this is a draft by a management team that thinks it has solid job security. Neither of these players will see MLB for 4-5 years in all likelihood....
