Dodgers Calling On Jhoan Duran And Griffin Jax
TNtwins85 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
For either Jax or Duran the conversation starts with De Paula. I’d also want Nick Frasso and Maddux Bruns. If they want 2.5 years of an elite reliever then those 3 guys or the Twins keep them. No questions asked- 52 replies

Well, one can only speculate what conversations actually look like behind closed doors but what about this crazy idea. Go all in for a rental bat or two which won’t cost them much in prospect capital( we’re talking the 10-30 prospects here) and let it ride. If they make a run great! If they falter well then that just tells them that large earth shattering shakeups must come. You can trade those guys then and you probably still get good capital in prospects and you can trade them both. Hell, package them both to the same team! This all depends on where they are at come July 31st. Hopefully the team makes it obvious by then which route they must go. If they don’t then they probably run the last 2 deadlines back again.

Yes, Dave St. Peter is who all of this should be directed to. He’s the head of upper management. You’re telling me that in 2024 there isn’t ANY other options? Also, they didn’t see this coming? AT ALL?!?! That’s negligent at best and makes me wonder what goes on behind closed doors at the MLB office.
-
This is the classic situation of upper management talking out of both sides of their mouths. Falvine is given a budget by the suits. I’m still flummoxed in the fact that they didn’t see this coming at all and had nothing in place whatsoever. From how they’ve handled all this it seems like they simply forgot that they’re contract was ending and didn’t read the Wall Street journal and hear that diamond was going bankrupt. It’s like this just came up in a memo on Monday morning and everyone forgot to check it. They had to have known this was happening and the fact they did absolutely nothing to prepare for it and had to beg a bankrupt business to offer them a bad contract is negligent at best. Dave St. Peter needs to answer to this as he is the fall guy and face of upper management. This has nothing to do with Falvine and has everything to do with everyone higher on the totem pole.

I love this rational, not flying off the handle breakdown of all elements of this trade! Like you said this sets the floor of their pitching staff and adds a top 100 prospect. I would think there’s gonna be some back room dealing before the season begins.

Hold on to your panties naysayers. The Twins FO may be waking up from their winter slumber. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/falvey-twins-plan-to-reallocate-money-saved-in-polanco-trade.html

Understandable. He did improve. But in this scenario why trade one or the other? I think Wallner should be in the conversation. Lee is already better at 2B as it stands. Move Julien to LF. Lee takes 2B. Polanco and Wallner get packaged. I’d rather have Julian’s bat in the lineup playing LF than Wallner. I’d rather have Lee’s bat in the lineup playing 2B over Julien and Polanco. I’d rather have both of them over Wallner and Polanco. Therefore you keep them both. This is the best lineup and defense. The article is about Julien and Lee when really we should be talking about Wallner and Polanco. Maybe it doesn’t get you a top of the rotation starter but I’d rather have Julien and Lee playing everyday than a number 2-3 starter and only one of the two.
-
Just my opinion but why do you have to trade one or the other. Why would you just not move the guy who hits great to another position where you are weak in my opinion which would be left field. He’s played there before and he can work at that position which has played before. That allows you to put the higher defensive value player in Lee there. Julien is a better hitter than Wallner. Lee is a better hitter than Wallner and a superior defensive player to Julien and Wallner. If you’re willing to trade a player it should be Wallner is what we’ve come to here. That puts him and Polanco on the block which creates a decent package while still keeping the two best hitters in this scenario. That’s my thinking.

What Defines Success for Byron Buxton in 2024?
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only starter we’re gonna get for Buxton at this point lives in somebody’s A ball system somewhere. Unless the Twins cover his salary for the next 5 years maybe we get a 4th or 5th starter. At this point they’re stuck with him so they at least have to try to maximize his ability to stay healthy and hope they get 2WAR or better. -
What Defines Success for Byron Buxton in 2024?
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’ve often wondered if moving him to one of the corners helps him out at all. All we’ve ever heard is he either plays CF, DH or the IL. I’m sure he’s more than capable to play RF or LF. If it helps him stay healthy even marginally isn’t that something the Twins would explore to maybe get another 15-20 games out of him? Maybe he’s no longer a CF as far as health goes. Maybe it doesn’t make any sense and they’ve looked into the metrics but the fact that he either plays one of two positions ONLY seems short sighted on some level. -
The only way of knowing is to actually read the contract. Maybe the dodgers aren’t even liable. Who knows without reading the language of the contract. Very interesting indeed
-
100%!!! Funny the boy genius’ Falvine haven’t done this yet! All it takes is one. The question is when does it become the norm? Maybe it doesn’t. We’ll just have to wait and see.
-
But it’s a point of negotiation. We just watched it happen. You want to be paid a dollar now. I want to pay you 50 cents. Where do we end up settling? Not to mention there’s someone else negotiating for your services. Or 2-3 other people. Person B offers you 75 cents. I offer 50. Person B really wants your services and offers $1.50. Now you think you’re worth $1.50 since you got an offer for that but I still want your services so I match $1.50. Person B offers $1.75. A simple concept but what do you think Juan Soto is thinking? Especially since he will be younger and he’s a better hitter. We’re talking the best of the best players here. This won’t be common but it sets a precedent. All I’m saying.
-
Well, this contract just sets the president. You hear Bryce Harper clamoring for more money as well. Who’s to say that next year Juan Soto doesn’t demand a billion dollars deferred for 50 years? Or the next young great player demanding more than that over 100 years that gets passed to his heirs? Without looking into the specifics of the rules and just reading that rule in the Passan tweet it’s hard to know. That rule literally just says that a player can demand anything. For real though. It sounds silly and ridiculous but if that is the only rule which it says their is no limit what’s to say that when it’s time for Walker Jenkins to hit free agency that he doesn’t demand 500 billion over 10 years that’s deferred for 500 years? Obviously there will be another CBA by then but this sets the table and the table is infinite! Randballs Stu… your next article starts here!

Carlos Correa Can Make Up the Difference for the Twins
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand yet according to your gut analysis he’s not a good player at all. He’s had constant injury issues and he’s only going to get worse. That’s just simply not true. Maybe to a degree but yet he’s still 29. He’s played in 80% of the season in 5 of his 9 seasons and 67% of the season in 7 of his 9 seasons. He’s only had 2 seasons of less than 3.1 WAR. His career average is 4.5 WAR. He plays solid defense and is a leader in the locker room. This guy is not Buxton. And he’s not going to be a 1.4 WAR or less player the rest of his career. That price is what you pay for this type of player. Did he have a terrible year last year? Yes. Agreed. You’re looking as if the glass is empty and I’m simply looking at it as if it’s half full. -
Jorge Polanco Drawing Increased Trade Interest
TNtwins85 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Exactly. The metrics are off as far as what we can read. As far as just player value it seems to be close. But with news that comes in about teams and player wants it doesn’t take into account for instance how Seattle wants a more “contact oriented” player. Or that Tampa wants a close to ready player in a package. You could put a package together headlined by Brooks Lee and 4-5 young prospects that nets you George Kirby. Yet Seattle wouldn’t do that with a cost controlled young starter. Or certain teams payroll situations. It’s a good reference but doesn’t account for a lot of other intricacies of a trade. -

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It just makes too much sense from a logic and payroll standpoint. -
Jorge Polanco Drawing Increased Trade Interest
TNtwins85 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I agree. If he could be trusted to be in the lineup for 130 games a year then it’s a different story. With his salary, knees and ankles I just don’t see how the twins can keep him when they are looking to shed payroll and still get a SP. -

TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You expect him to post 1.4 WAR or less the rest of his career? I’ll bet the billion dollars I don’t have on the over on that. Unless he’s a total dud and has to retire early because of a career ending injury there’s almost no chance of that. He’s still only 29. -
He’ll maybe come close to those innings once I predict. I’d bet money on the under 3 of 3 seasons on this one. It was a win win for the twins and gray.
