  1. Very true. I believe he has a 40 day window or something around those lines.
  2. No….No….and Nooo. Polanco is a 2B and a 2B only at this point. He’s above avg at the position. Carries $10M. And there’s plenty of position depth in MN and coming up. He’s either your starting 2B or your trade bait. I’m all for positional flexibility but 2B is where you flex that ability. Not at 1B with a guy who’s never played there and doesn’t seem to fit there.
  3. I only see moniak and Carlson as worthy here. Carlson scares me in a twins hitting system though. The home runs are great but the free swinging killed soooooo many innings this last season. I’ll take my chances on a high OBP in Martin than trading and trying to fit any of these guys into a CF mix. I even like Kiersey more than any of these guys really.
  4. Now that they traded their high K high HR expensive 3B indeed it opens up a trade of Polo and Lee. Matches up with their eye on a higher contact hitter. Adds a little more value adding Lee allowing an easier road to acquire Gilbert. If they think Lee is ready to contribute opening day this trade is now almost perfect!
  5. Very true. Although we know they don’t need a second basemen. What could we trade? What do we get back? Cabrera? Meyer?
  6. I agree with you. He’s the epitome of a boom or bust prospect. We differ as I’d rather trade him now for something than cut him in a couple years after watching him taking up a spot in Minnesota and struggling to make contact. He adds the topping on the Polanco cake for Bryce Miller. I’m still a fan of Prelander Berroa and Hancock for Polanco straight up as well.
  7. The pirates have plenty of position players and need pitching. Unless you give them a haul of close to ready prospects I don’t see it. No on Glasnow. If you’re going after Glasnow you are better off going for Burnes. Milwaukee and Tampa are gonna want prospects. We want to get rid of expensive players to add more money to the pot for CF and a 1B platoon. Seattle is who we match up with best. Unless we want burnes for a year and we have to do this again next year.
  8. It’s all fine and good to include Lee. I’m all for trading prospects for established players. Especially when you have an over abundance of a certain position. The problem is is Seattle is in win now mode. They want established veterans. Not prospects. Especially when they haven’t even debuted yet. Polanco/Kepler Emmanuel Rodriguez and Larnach are gonna be your guys to get a deal done for Gilbert. Hold onto Lee. Seattle isn’t in need of him.
  9. I love the Hancock, Berroa , and Locklear trade. It shows a slight overpay. If we took Thielbar out and threw in Balazovic or someone of that caliber does it get done? I just love the idea of 2 young very projectable pitchers that have good stuff. Sheds 10M to get a platoon with Kiriloff and a CFer.
  10. Well, this is quite disappointing to say the least. Just after I read that the braves are increasing payroll. Once again this fan base will be hamstrung by a family that obviously values profits as opposed to loyalty of a fan base. When they should be pushing another $20M out ownership has instead decided to take $20M off the table. All while A.) they knew this was coming. This didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. Cable has been in decline for years. B.) they did nothing to avoid it and failed miserably to get out in front of it. So the question is one of 2 things. Either the people running this organization are completely inept and it’s by pure chance that the billionaire Pohlads have turned the twins into a billion dollar franchise or this was simply always going to happen and just like every other major corporation in this country they’re completely content pulling the wool over fans, customers and consumers eyes. And just like always we’ll complain about it for awhile but once the season starts we’ll all watch, listen and attend games. Buy merchandise. And say, “well shucks! Maybe next year.” All as the Pohlads turn another profit. Count the money and wait for us all to just do it again.
  11. If they can’t find a worthy pitcher/trading partner I believe the twins will be shopping 3rd tier FA SP’s at the end of free agency. I’d love to be surprised. I would. I just feel this trade solves so many issues. The only down side is losing the longest tenured twin. Who has struggled to stay healthy the last couple seasons. E-Rod doesn’t headline this trade. He’s simply a lottery pick. Polo and Farmer provide the infield depth I believe Seattle wants. Willing to trade those 2 to A. Get a top tier pitcher and B. Free up some money to get another hitter.
  12. Polanco, E-Rod, Kyle farmer for Logan Gilbert. Gilbert seems like he’s solid. The twins can maybe help his stuff play up. Controlled for a few more years. Seems like a twins fit. I’m not big on E-Rod. He should be dominating and he’s not. He’s got all the tools but he just seems like a bust to me. Moving Polanco and farmer clears up like 16M in payroll. Allows them to go out and get a big bat in FA which they need. The lack of another star hitter was brutal this year. Let’s be honest, we don’t want the twins going after big money pitchers. We may like it but the twins don’t seem to want to go all out and the pitchers don’t seem to want to come here. I like Polo but he’s dispensable at this moment and Seattle needs a 2B. I think it’s a win win for both teams.
  13. I hope Levine gets his chance at the top. Seems like an upstanding guy who has been second in command for awhile. Unless he wants to see this to the end. The team is at a turning point at this stage to take that next step to WS contender. Do you finish what you started or do you take a maybe once in a lifetime opportunity?

  15. He’s naturally fitting in at low A. That’s probably where he fits best but gotta start an 18yo in the FCL. He’ll probably hit a couple snags next year playing between Ft.Myers and Cedar Rapids when the leagues figure out his weaknesses. How he handles that determines if he’s in Target field as a 21 yo. Very impressive first couple months though!
  16. The reports from Gleeman yesterday were that Varland is being ramped down. His stuff in turn played up quite a bit. He threw 50 some pitches and was sitting in the high 90’s with a couple of 100’s in there. Probably gonna be a 4th or 5th option out of the bullpen down the stretch. Now that is exciting!
  17. Regardless of his age the whole point is to A.) lock him up and maybe buy a year or two of FA. B.) The number you’re paying him is known allowing you to plan a few years in advance and work your roster accordingly. It actually works out better that he’s older as you don’t need to commit to 9, 10 years. A simple 6 or 7 year contract gets you to his 30’s. Within that you need to start thinking who’s gonna take this team in the next 5-10 years. Lewis is a prime pick and depending on the next couple years he might be a guy you want here for the next 10-15 years. The attitude and pedigree in Lewis makes a difference for sure. “Ice veins Lewis!”
  18. Exactly! If you sign him to 15M a year for the next 6 years now you know what he’s making for the next 6 years. If he has a couple huge seasons all of a sudden his arbitration number jumps into the high teens or twenties. If he’s just solid maybe he only gets to 16M his last year. All that said locking him up pre determines the number.
  19. Really??? There’s never been a player that surprises people for better or worse and a FO is supposed to be able to know that? In baseball we’re talking here. That’s a pretty wild statement.
  20. True. I get your point but in the same sense the contract not only locks your player in for a given number of years but also presents his value for those same years as well. That knowledge allows you to know that even if Lewis plays out of his mind next year and wins MVP we still know what he’s gonna be making the next X number of years. It provides you 2 benefits.
  21. But this was already looking to be a problem even when they signed Correa. So are you saying that the twins ownership and front office is so inept that even they never seen the ballys situation coming and decided to sign a player to a $200M contract even though it may jeopardize the business as a whole?
  22. Yeah, he’s been dealing with plantar fasciitis that’s flared up throughout the season. The guy still goes out there everyday though. Plays solid defense and performs better than a lot of guys to this point. Who would you rather have had instead of him?
  23. I totally get what you’re saying. One of the reasons the braves are a juggernaut this year and years to come. It really eliminates just having to overload for a 2-3 year window. Allows you to trade for and sign guys like Matt Olson. A.) you have the prospects to do so since you’re not relying on them to take over a spot anytime soon. B.) the money you’ve saved on your long term signees allows you to sign your trade to a deal. Might fall on deaf ears around here though based on the terrible deals the twins have done. They did it with Polanco and Kepler though.
  24. Also to add to this is the eye test and numbers aside. How many times has Wallner come into a big spot and battled with the pitcher to get a base hit? Or battled after a few strikeouts to hit that HR the other night. The ability to just make contact in a key spot. Now look at Gallo who is basically guaranteed to watch or swing at 3 straight pitches in general. Strikeout in key spots. Strikeouts to start the inning only to homer once a week. The ability to just move a runner along when you need a run counts for something as well.
  25. I’m surprised to this point that Funderburk hasn’t been called up yet. Especially while Cole sands sits in the bullpen day in day out. Would be nice to see what we’ve got there and whether he’s a playoff piece or someone more for next years bullpen. I’m guessing they didn’t expect Moran to fall so hard on his face. Anyways, hopefully we can get a look at him in the bigs!
