Exactly. Also the fact that they have waaaayyy to many OF’s and LH OF’s at that. This whole PPI speculation is simply Twinsdaily staff looking for clicks as I’ve seen it written about a thousand times. The reasons go as such. 1. Too many OF’s, who gets bumped? 2. Jenkins needs AB’s if he’s brought up. 3. Erod needs AB’s as he’s out of options. 4. If the 27 season is delayed Jenkins doesn’t have to sit out if not on the 40. 5. Maybe PPI here. That’s the order. PPI isn’t even close to the top reason. Come on Twinsdaily. Stop speculating this garbage. Do better.

This is why neither is up. They simply have too many damn outfielders and especially LH outfielders. Why they didn’t choose to package about 3 of these guys for a rookie ball lotto ticket to clear a path is beyond me. Larnach’s success this year finally gave them the opportunity to move him for something. They almost did. That will be an opportunity lost not only for the Twins in getting something back but also giving Jenkins and Rodriguez a more clear path.

You’re missing everyone’s point guy. Everyone is making valid points about the names involved, where this team is at and why you come to the point that in reality it never made any sense to trade for Neto. The Pohlads are not suckering anyone in terms of prospects. You don’t trade the highest rated prospect since Byron Buxton for Zach Neto.
-
I’m just flabbergasted at why you would trade a consensus top 10-15 prospect in MLB with 6 years of control and GG caliber defense in a corner and above average CF ability with a .838 OPS as a 21 year old in AAA for 4 years of a defensively challenged SS who averages almost a strikeout a game. Usually when you trade elite prospects you want elite talent back. Neto is not that guy. Besides the dingers he offers very little. Hence, unless you are a Neto caliber player away from competing for a World Series( which the Twins are not) you keep Jenkins. Especially when the ask began with Jenkins which meant you probably need more top 10 organizational prospects to get him. Which means the Angels didn’t really want to trade him and the Twins would’ve been dumb to sell the farm for a guy of Neto’s average talent. Not obtuse. Just wondering why you’re clutching to this stupid scenario so bad lol
-
I would usually tend to agree but the report was the negotiations started with Jenkins. It ended there and it should have. If Neto was a plus defender at SS then possibly, but you don’t trade a potential GG OF who has middle of the order for 6 years potential for a guy like Neto unless you’re one Neto type player away from competing for a WS. If the Twins were there then yes you go for that. The Twins are not there so you keep Jenkins 100%. If the ask is a package starting with anyone not named Jenkins then you listen.

Joe Ryan is not getting traded. The only way Tom Pohlad allows that to happen is this. A massive overpay. A full season nets you 2 top 100’s and probably a lottery ticket or two as well. Doesn’t matter what his arbitration number is. It’s still a bargain unless Joe Ryan somehow commands a Skubal arbitration number which won’t happen. If none of these things happen which I figure they won’t you roll into the season. Look at the Jeffers situation. This is how it’s handled. If they’re competitive still in July they keep him. If they’re not they trade him for a slightly less package. This is the only part of the scenario resembling Skubal. They get 1 top 100 and another organizations top 10-15. If they’re competitive they keep him and offer the QO which may still be in place next offseason but who knows. That is the plan. It has almost nothing to do with Skubal this year. Also, the Twins are not signing a 30 year old SP to any long term deals. If that happens then you should be outraged because that’s bad value and it won’t be for $20-$25M.

If the last few weeks are any indicator this bullpen is gonna be relied upon to simply keep them in the game long enough for their patented 7th-9th inning comebacks. Somebody in that hitting group is gonna have to get hot these last 2 months to win. Maybe that guy is Buxton. Maybe it’s someone unexpected. Time to step up.

There were two reports in the midst of the action today that the Astros and Padres were in on Larnach. Must have wanted a kings ransom as both teams pivoted with plenty of time before the deadline. Obviously they didn’t want to mess with this offense unless they had something substantial coming back which is why I think they were in on Neto. The Angels I’m sure wanted their own kings ransom.

Judging by some of the returns for the top tier rental guys I don’t think they’ll have to touch many of the top 10’s to get a real legit guy. Controllable guys may command a premium but maybe 1 top ten and a few teens get a deal done.

Not when Royce Lewis is lost at the plate, Brooks Lee can’t field an average SS and you have 2 guys in Grey and Kreidler who solidify your team defensively at SS. These moves were not made to clear an immediate path for Culpepper. These moves made room for him but didn’t happen for him. On May 19th the Twins optioned Lewis. Lee moved to 3rd full time 2 days later. Culpepper was put on the 7 day IL on June 16th. So if these moves were to clear the way for Culpepper then where was he for the almost month after Lewis was sent down?
-
Acceptable is the key. Yet he was demoted because he was hitting .180 and looking overmatched every at bat. Him getting demoted allowed them to shift Lee to third who was overmatched at SS. It also allowed them to install Kreidler and Grey at SS. It wasn’t Lewis’ defense and it wasn’t clearing a path for Culpepper. It was Lewis’ bat, Lee’s terrible D.

They’ve gotta clear the OF glut but I’m not sure which to trade. Larnach probably gets you more back than Bell but Bell clears numerous spots by simply not holding that DH spot day to day. They both come up with solid hits when needed and with the offense the way it has been lately do you really upgrade bringing up Jenkins? Defensively yes but even as good of a prospect as he his can you rely on him down the stretch? Can you rely on Bell/Larnach? It’s gonna get interesting for sure!

Agreed. No overpay here. Says more about the Twins draft room than it does about the Front office trading him really. This guy was never any good in the minors for a 2nd Rd pick. The trade helps the team now. Odds are these 2 never would.
