  1. Agreed this rotation is legit. The young guys are hitting well. If you can have Correa be the postseason Correa. If Buxton can deliver a few doubles and a HR or two in a 3 game and 5 game series this team is one to look out for. They’ve failed pretty decent against the teams they’ll be facing in the playoffs. The bullpen though. If you can put Ryan or Maeda in the pen and maybe bring up Varland to let his stuff play up then dang! I’m not sure if this plays out much better. They’re still the twins and we’re not gonna trust it until they’re popping champagne for a division title put if they can have some time to set themselves up the record goes to 0-0 in the playoffs and whatever you did in the season will be overshadowed by what you do in the postseason for sure.
  2. If you sign a 29 year old Ohtani to a 500M+ contract it won’t take long before you turn into the Angels. We made our big splash( Buxton, Correa). Our young Hitters are coming through that we’ve been waiting for(Wallner, Julien, Lewis, Kiriloff). We have a solid pitching staff for a couple years in the stable( López, Ober, Ryan, Varland). A couple studs down on the farm( Lee, Jenkins). Now we just need to make moves around the edges to supplant guys until a prospect comes up. The plan came to fruition. It only took 12 years but it’s here. Save money to sign your in house pre-arb guys to extensions. Sign a guy when there’s a hole. Ride this train for awhile. It’s here. Don’t blow it up with one guy now.
  3. I think it’s a combination of all the things. This guy has pitched a lot in high leverage situations on. He’s literally been the only guy to turn to when SHTF. Scouting is up on him. He’s gonna blow through his IP from last year. It’s his 2nd year even in this role in the show. His stuff isn’t as sharpe. Almost everything is going against him and he’s still super dominant compared to almost anyone else. It is what it is. If the twins do their job and take games they should take he’ll have the rest to be ready to go once the calendar hits october. I think we’re just used to how dominant he was last year and everyone has now adjusted. Remember, MLB players can hit 103. He still has to be a pitcher out there.
  4. Agreed! I fear that the extra 2 roster spots in September will keep him around the rest of the season. I just hope it’s on the bench 9 out of every 10 games and the occasional defensive replacement or pinch hit. Would love to see Funderbirk and Martin but it probably won’t be.
  5. No disagreement. He seems good to go at this moment though. I think he’s about to go on another tear!
  6. He’s started to clobber the ball again the last few games after a short lull the last week or so.
  7. My only 2 questions to all this is (A). Has Wallner had any work at 1B? He seems to check all the boxes for a first baseman. Big, athletic, smart and willing to learn. This one puzzles me more than Julien to 1B. (B). Has Lee had any work in the OF? This puzzles me as well as we have the IF covered unless Lee is the next coming of Scott Rolen, Ozzie Smith or Roberto Alomar. I think he would make a Nice LFer and then find him a permanent spot in 2025. I don’t think he’s coming up this year at all but I’m interested what happens this offseason.
  8. I was joking. If he makes it good for him but if he’s not the next coming of Pablo then Dobnak in the rotation means the entire rotation got injured. He’s gotta be like what the 10th best option? Not joking there. There’s so many other guys to log innings before Randy Dobnak.
  9. Lopez Ryan Ober Maeda- 2 year deal Paddack Varland, SWR, Raya, Festa depth in AAA Mahle if you can get him on a good 1 year deal. Gray gets a QO. He rejects it for the big contract. That’s perfectly fine.
  10. Is Dobnak still in Baseball? Or is he coaching little league and Uber driving again?
  11. Nobody thinks there’s a savior in St. Paul. Lewis is the closest to that and he’s rehabbing. I think what everyone is saying here is that had the Twins just let him be what he is he’s probably our starting CF right now. MAT wouldn’t have been signed and we’d be realizing that this guy and Julien at the top of our lineup create a lot of opportunities to score runs! He’s not gonna hit 20 bombs but he’s not gonna kill innings and he’s gonna be on base. ALOT! Probably not a superstar but a very solid RH bat. Which is what we should’ve got at the deadline. He’s not as good of a hitter as Arraez but he walks more and plays better D. I don’t remember anyone clamoring for Arraez either back in the day. Why? Cause he wasn’t seen as a superstar with elite power. He’s now the best hitter in the game. Just saying. Good players can come out of nowhere when they bring certain elite skill sets not centered on flashy stats.
  12. There’s a reason he was a stud at vandy. There’s a reason he was looked at as a 1-1 pick in the draft. There’s a reason Toronto started him at AA right away. There’s a reason the Twins wanted him in that trade. The Twins screwed around with him trying to get more power out of him and playing him at SS. As a result there’s a reason why he struggled for the last 2 years. I think he dropped in the draft because of his power profile as well as not having the ability to play SS. I don’t believe the Toronto scouting staff is inept. They started him in AA for a reason. They identified right away what he was and what he wasn’t. The Twins then got him hoping he was more than he was. If you look at his minor league stats he’s the perfect guy to plug into this offense. .256/.388/.350/.738. BB/K at 129/159. And those are his numbers trying to hit for power for who knows how long. Even if you drop those numbers a bit with a big league transition he’s still better than 1/2 of this team.
  13. I think our infatuation with power and whether a guy can play SS should be over. This team by this time next year will probably have 4 SS capable people who are better than Martin. He’s not playing SS. So that’s irrelevant. He’s not playing 2B as that position is even more blocked. If he starts he’s gonna play CF or LF. He’s not gonna hit for power and that’s ok cause he’s gonna walk about as much as he strikes out. I see a guy who’s gonna hit .250 and get on base at a .330-350 clip and play solid defense in the OF. He’ll be good on the bases and be a gamer. He’ll make contact with a guy on 2nd or 3rd to move the runner along instead of trying to hit a 5 run homer. I think he’s the exact player we need after this season where everyone fails to put the ball in play. I’m so over the power aspect of prospects and power approach we have. I’m fine to go back to the 00’s twins hitting approach instead of everyone trying to hit dingers every AB.
  14. It’s interesting how the Twins messed around with him trying to squeeze more power out of him. If he would have been allowed to be himself would he be in CF this year instead of MAT? Everyone and there mom realized what he was when he came here. An OBP machine! I’ll take Martin without any HR’s over a guy like Gallo 100 out of 100 times! I’m excited for what next year brings if the Twins clear the way for the young guys.
  15. If one has ever watched the playoffs we all know it’s about momentum. Seattle last year is a prime example. When Yordan hit that HR they were done and one could say it helped propel the Astros to the WS. Or when Harper hit the HR against San Diego. Lots of other plays happen but momentum is a huge factor. The Twins have the starters to stay in games and the star power for a big hit. It’s the bullpen that worries me. But, there’s always a chance once you’re in!
  16. Unless they go on a playoff run I think we’ll see a very different team come 2024. I think FO will still be in but the days of Kepler and Polanco are gone. Gallo retires when nobody signs him. As well as maybe Baldelli and company gone. Find a spot for Lee and Lewis to coexist on the roster without having to play 4 different positions. Varland will be in the rotation. Figure out if Wallner and Larnach can PLAY. Buxton will live and die in CF once again. And hopefully the bullpen can figure something out with another year of guys trying their hands getting key outs. No tear down but kinda what everyone want has wanted. Maybe a FA rotational piece and buy low guy sprinkled in there. If they make a postseason run….well, we’ll burn that bridge when we get there.
  17. Looks like they are gonna ride with this team and look to 2024. This team has potential, hell, it’s the same team that we came into the season with and like Seth stated if everyone is even playing close to their potential they will run away with this division as they should have from the get go. They will have to look around the room at each other knowing nobody is coming to save them and they will live and die with those same guys in the room. That’s intimidating for sure! But, could also pull a team together as well. If nothing else we’ll see who sinks and swims and the off-season and 2024 will become crystal clear since I guess it hasn’t already.
  18. Well, not what I expected but yet maybe it’s what I expected. I thought they’d make at least one deal but this deadline was weird. With Cleveland looking for addition by subtraction I guess the AL central will try to see what the lowest amount of wins can get a team into the playoffs. With that being said we all know how it is around here and even if the Twins won 5 World Series titles in a row we would still be clamoring how someone made a wrong move so I guess at this point we just strap in for the ride.
  19. I don’t think Polanco will be back next year. And if Buxton can’t play CF anymore then I would add him to that list as well. He’s a perfect 1-1 with another vet on a bad deal in the offseason. If he can’t play the field that is
  20. Probably costs the Twins a couple higher Rated prospects though. If they think he’ll hit like this the next couple years then absolutely! Pham could probably be had for one or two 15-30 ranked prospects. They both provide value at different cost levels for sure
  21. Thomas or Pham seem to be the only fits here. I would lean towards Pham at this point as a rental and try to package Raley in that deal. One would suspect that’s the move. I can’t see them getting Thomas at this point from Falveys comments and I wouldn’t give up what the nationals probably want for him either.
  22. “They should maximize their chances with measured aggression on deadline day.” agreed! Good article.
  23. What would be even worse is if the buying Twins lost the division to the clearly selling Guardians.
  24. Well, Wallner is gonna stay in place for now with the injury to Kiriloff. Also, he’s one of their best hitters at the moment. They are not moving any big name prospects. Falvey has said that they will make “baseball” moves. A LH relief pitcher and a RH bat. That’s what they need and all reports are that’s what they are shopping for. If they can get Raley and Pham for Larnach you make that trade. It helps the team. It doesn’t move the needle much but it helps tremendously short term while not sacrificing much long term.
  25. I agree totally! Probably would have had to part ways with another big prospect on top of what they gave for Mahle though. Marte was a top 10-20 prospect last year so put in place another one of the twins top guys from last year. Hindsight 20/20.
