Has Nick Gordon Proven His Worth to the Twins?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon is only starter on a rebuilding team, he is a good last player(s) off the bench on a winning team. He can play defense basically anywhere, be pinch runner, steal a base, and that is important position on a winning team. Has he proven his worth to stay in the majors? I think so, has he proven his draft position (which wasn't the question) probably not. -
Is It Time to Start Worrying About Austin Martin?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Arraez hit .334 in the majors at age 22, Martin is 23 in AA. Don't get me wrong I have high, high hopes for Martin, and I believe he should have a better career than Arraez, but at this point, at this point in time and I will repeat again at this point he isn't close to Arraez or where Arraez was at the same age. It is unfair to Arraez to compare Martin to him. Besides being the 5th pick in the draft and starting his minor league career at AA, he hasn't done much but steal a few bases and take a bunch of walks. I hope that changes starting today! -
Twins 4, A's 3: Bullpen Completes Sweep of Oakland
TwinsDr2021 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You don't like back to back 28 pitch 1 innings saves? His walks scare me, so far it hasn't really hurt, but... As for the twins schedule, doing what they are doing against poor teams, sets themselves up for a good summer and contention down the stretch. If there record was reversed against this schedule, well the season might already be over. Just playing .500 the rest of the year puts them at 85 wins, Just winning 6 out of 11 the rest of the way puts them at 90. Now they just need to stay more healthy then they have been, and don't let bad pitchers pitch too many times.- 40 replies

Is It Time to Start Worrying About Austin Martin?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
For those that thought he should be the Twins starting day left fielder I would think there should be a bit of concern for how he has done 2 levels below the majors. For those that said he isn't on the 40 man, so start him in AA, and maybe he makes it to the majors in September shouldn't be that concerned. I was closer to the second group, so I am not very concerned, yet. -
You don't need to justify what Rocco did and the reasons behind it, I said it worked and probably was the right thing,

Yes (the manager thought he was so impressive that he didn't think he could get a left handed hitter out), yes. I would have entertained the option, I wouldn't go so far to as to call a 5 inning game against the worst teams in baseball impressive. So to answer your last question, NO the 1 pitch in your hypothetical doesn't up Ryan's start to impressive, it makes it better than a not so good of start to a decent start with a chance to get a win, but in your scenario he now sits at 82 pitches, so if he comes out with zeros in the 6th in a decent amount of pitches, now that is an impressive start, he went 6, worked though a jam or two, set himself and the team up for a win, all while not having his best stuff. That is impressive. But if you and others think that 4 2/3 innings against Baltimore is impressive, great, I just don't.

With the way Ryan has pitched in his short career so far I expect him to be able to finish at least 5 innings, so anything less is not impressive to me. You think a starter going 4 2/3 inning and getting pulled because two guys are on in the 5th is impressive, great, I mean I guess he did pitch more than half the game so there is that.

I understood why they took him out and it worked, doesn't chance my opinion that his start wasn't impressive, that is my point. Until they change the rule on how starting pitchers get wins, anything less than qualifying for a win IMO (unless like I stated above it was predetermined the starter wasn't going to go 5 innings) isn't impressive.

Did you see the game? He wasn't be asked to go back out, he was standing on the mound in the 5th with two outs and two on and he got taken out. And somehow this relates to innings pitched and being stretched out? I was talking about how the writer wrote "he continued to impress" and IMO 4 2/3 innings isn't impressive at all, I mean the Baltimore pitcher pitched 5 innings.

It was a great win, the bullpen came though as well as the offense, Buxton's double was just fun to watch. But can we stop with the "he continued to impress", He didn't even pitch 5 innings any starting pitcher not on a low pitch count or planned to pitch less than 5 innings should be IMO considered a failed start if they don't pitch at least 5 innings. Joe Ryan is way too good of a pitcher and been pitching way too well this year to be taken out because he is in a bit of trouble with two outs and 81 pitches in the 5th inning.

Love me some Ryan and he has been great, but not sure how 4 starts and 23 innings with an ERA of 1.17 is better than than 4 starts 29 innings and a .93 ERA or 4 starts 32 innings and a .84 ERA? Just saying

Kirilloff, Smeltzer Hope to Rejoin Twins Soon
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
By himself, I can't imagine he gets the Twins much of anything, He is a 26 year old soft throwing minor league pitcher. Think of what the Twins got from the Padres for 1 year of Rogers.- 18 replies

Is Byron Buxton Baseball's Best Player?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In 2020 he only walked twice in 130 at bats, and 13 in 254 in 2021, and twice this year in 37 at bats, he could work on that.- 42 replies

Is Byron Buxton Baseball's Best Player?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In his last 110 games he has put up 7.8 WAR with 30 doubles, 38 homers, .336 OBP, .651 OPS, .990 OPS (If I did the math correct, but it should be close), so when healthy he is one of the best players on the planet. Lets hope he stay healthy.- 42 replies

Twins Have Important Reinforcements Close
TwinsDr2021 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My thoughts are if Correa doesn't get hurt, Lewis has no real chance no matter how good he hits in AAA. (Similar to Miranda/Donaldson last year), so if he gets some time in LF, he could be brought up to replace Larnach, AK, Celestino, Garlick. I would rather have Lewis up (if he deserves it) then playing SS in AAA. He can get time there in majors, they could DH Correa a couple of times and when he rests and in blow outs. Between that and his AAA play it should be enough to decide if his future is there.- 42 replies

Twins Have Important Reinforcements Close
TwinsDr2021 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lumps like Jeffers, Larnach, AK, Gordon and Celestino are taking? If a couple of Twins were doing well, it would be easy to bring up Miranda and stick him at 1st, but as it is currently going if he struggles then what, back to the minors and Sano gets first again. How does that help, unless they plan to punt this year. Which doesn't seem likely at this point, with trading away a first round pick and spending 35 million on a SS to compete this year.- 42 replies

Twins Have Important Reinforcements Close
TwinsDr2021 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I tend to disagree with this take, they brought up Ober, Jeffers, Larnach, AK, Gordon, Ryan, Rooker, Jax, Moran, Celestino, Rortvedt, Colina, Poppen, Alcala just in the last year or two. It is just that most everybody they have brought up hasn't been all that good or healthy in AK case, except Ryan, and Ober was decent/good and showed promise but wasn't allowed or couldn't go out and pitch 5,6,7 innings a time so he wasn't they type of guy that when it was his turn could stop a losing streak or save a bullpen or what not. They have been slow with some of the star pitching prospects but they have all been hurt or not that great in the minors as well. Miranda is the only real prospect in my mind that could/should (last August for sure)be looked at as not being brought up, and my argument has always been it is tough to bring up a prospect that might struggle when the rest of the team is already struggling. My thought are Lewis should be splitting time between left and SS in AAA and if he stays hot, should be up by Mid May, than they could move Martin to AAA and do the same with him.- 42 replies

Rocco, Usage, and the Twins Bullpen
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As stated above I used Archer as an example of bad decisions/planning by the Twins, not innings pitched or pitch count. You are running cover by comparing things other than pitch count which is what I started at, if you actually believe the stats you put up mean the Twins are doing it the right way or the same way, or whatever it is being called, that totally ignores that the Twins starters are doing that while pitching less pitches, Bundy last time out 71 pitches a jump of 4 from the last time out, Ryan 82 which was a jump of 12, Ober 70 which was actually of drop of 12. I don't care about Archer pitch count because of signing late, injury, short spring training, Covid, blah blah blah. This thread was about Bullpen usage and I have been saying Rocco is terrible and using examples of not being prepared for a piggy back, removing a pitcher that is breezy though a game with 70 pitches to bring in a inferior pitcher, Or just flat out missing their starting pitcher is tired and bringing them back out only to pitch a 1/3 of an inning and get in trouble. I can't stand Rocco and I know this jades my opinion, but I have been saying the same thing about him going back to 2019.- 88 replies

With my math he was at 58 after 4, So basically he was maxed out around 60, Which means the Twins should have had a piggy back setup for him, and they didn't. That isn't on Archer, that is on Rocco, and Johnson.- 88 replies

TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To clarify, my comments were not pointed at Archer, just using him as an example or them making bad decision. It was pointed directly at the Twins MGMT. I assume Archer gave his all and it seemed to surprise the Twins he was done a bit prior to 70 pitches. And their plan was what for a pitcher that needs to be pulled after 70 pitches? My point about posting pitch counts of other teams is that Ryan, Ober, Bundy all have been limited while other teams have been letting pitchers pitch, and Twins fans run cover for them.- 88 replies

If the Twins are not bombing home runs all over the place, Rocco pretty much fails as a manager, IMO. for full disclosure I didn't see the game last night, but my goodness Archer is a 33 year old man with over 1200 MLB innings and Rocco doesn't have the confidence in him to pitch to a rookie hitting around .150? If that is the kind of confidence you have in your starter you might as well tell him sorry Chris, but your now a bullpen guy because unless if you are absolutely perfect after the third inning I am going to pull you from the game.- 88 replies
