    IMO, it doesn't matter if he is named the starter or not (except for his incentives) it is likely going to take multiple starts for him to be considered a sure fire 5/6 inning pitcher so the Twins should be prepared by having another pitcher on the roster they feel comfortable pitching 3 innings (Ober?) He should be treated like Archer last year even if he is doing great after 4 pull him put Ober in for 3 innings for at least a few starts until he can prove he is close to his old self. I think the Twins should be prepared that he could go 3 or 4 innings and give up 4 runs and the solution to that shouldn't be running 4 or 5 1 innings guys out there.

    I guess that depends on what you mean bad starts, Cleveland was 10-12 on May 1st(21-24 on June 1st), and the Braves were 13-14 (25-26 on June 1st). Sure not the best starts or probably what they were hoping for but, it wasn't like they went into may 5 - 17 or 8 - 19. IMO those are bad starts, if the Twins are within a few games .500 starting May it may not be the start we are hoping for but certainly a start that keeps them alive,

    100% agree, that has Duran, Lopez, the lefties, Alcala and Jax, That is pretty solid, And should mean Rocco doesn't have to over use anybody., will he is the unanswered question. I would still like Ober in the pen it shouldn't be that hard to get him 3 inning relief stints early in the season while the continue to ramp up the starters, plus if somebody is off or tweaks something he could come in a pitch 4 or possibly 5 innings, then get sent down to recover for the 10 days.

    Jax was good/solid last year, he wasn't great he allowed Inherited Runner's Scored % of 42% last year and blew 25% of his save chances. After August 10th I can agree he was close to great. Duran was great last year zero blown saves in 26 attempts. Rafeal Montero was great last year and many others but lets not get ahead of ourselves on home town basis. Now I like Jax and feel he will again be solid or better this year and continue to improve for the next few years, I like him as the 4th guy out of the pen type of reliever, somebody I trust to come in and get the job done with the top 2 need a day off but otherwise to come in 5th/6h inning and bridge to the super studs. IMO

    While this is a true statement it is very misleading. The trade deadline is August 2nd. The Twins have 53 after the deadline. So lets say a week or so before the deadline they are 46 and 56, they probably aren't looking to acquire players and might be dumping/trading them or lets say they are 56 - 46 and now are acquiring players. In one scenario the last 60 games matters and the other not so much, Even if after all is said and done they end up with the same record the first 102 games meant something completely different in the grand scheme of the Twins plans.

    My point was the Twins are still pitching Dobnak, Sanchez and bullpen games while the Braves have one of their better starters being so good he started the 7th in spring training. I was hoping by this time Lopez, Gray, would be on the same path of pitching as Ryan, Maeda and Mahle (but better than them two) again this topic was about injuries not about a pitching philosophy of pitch counts, batters faced, innings usage any of that. There is a 162 game schedule and more than likely unlimited topics on this site for that.

    See my response to Mike, about starters, that could change in the last 10 days (I hope it does) On your last paragraph you are projecting something I did not write, I didn't say Rocco or the Twins FO wouldn't let a pitcher start the 7th I was wondering who the first would be that is good enough and stretched out enough to start the 7th this year and how long it would take. I hope if the one of the first few starts of the year, but at this time that isn't looking good at this point since Gray has pitched 1.2 innings, Lopez has pitched 2 innings and Maeda and Mahle haven't found their stuff yet. So my Guess would be Ryan again. And before you start telling me how many innings other teams are pitching their guys, I will again remind you of the topic.

    Really? Did I say they were doing it wrong? What I was trying to point out is that Twins starters are still be limited (not Maeda in this case, but I didn't say did I?) or haven't been good and the Braves are getting their pitchers ready for good long starts to start the season. This topic is about injuries and them mounting no? The Twins are supposed to have 6 above average or betters starters, correct? Yet in the last 8 games they have had a bullpen game, two Sanchez starts, a Dobnak start, Ober 3 innings, Ryan 4+ innings, Mahle (2) and Maeda be bad. Are you trying to tell me this isn't a relative comment to this topic?

    Are you trying to say the only reason the Twins starters haven't pitched more innings is because they haven't been good? My post wasn't meant to be bit$3!ing about letting the starters go further, (Nor was that the point of my question) it was more inline with the topic the Twins are struggling with injuries just hoping to get to the season and the Braves are prepping for the season.

    The Twins are worried about injuries and protecting players and the Braves are planning for the season letting a starting pitcher start the 7th inning in spring training. I am wondering which Twins starter will be the first pitcher to start the 7th inning and how many games that will take.

    I think after trading for Gray, Mahle and Lopez and signing Correa anything less than a division championship or a Wild Card would be considered a failure in my mind. If that happens I want the FO and manager sent packing. If they make the playoffs but don't win a game the FO gets one more year but the manager doesn't. My prediction is high 80's.

    I will be at the last home game sitting behind the plate with my son, convinced him to go watch the Twins this year, after wanting to see the Blue Jays last year. Now if only the regular season games were streaming I could fully get him on the Twins bandwagen instead of the Blue Jays.

    I remember in 2014 that the Astros signed/extended minor leaguer Jon Singleton. Didn't really work out, Can't remember anybody else but maybe.

    I hate to point out the obvious, but both Harris and Carroll played in the majors at age 21 and will play this whole season at age 22 (Harris the whole season and Carroll until August 21st). Harris was the rookie of the year and 13th in MVP voting. Lee will also play this whole season at 22 but has only played a handful of games above A+, so an extension for him should not happen and will not happen before the end of this season and only if he comes up at some point this season and shows the skills of a future all star. Royce Lewis likely won't play again until he is 24 (June 5th) and then will have to pick up where he left off last year. With that said at this point Lewis and Lee aren't close to Harris and Carroll and we (Twins Fans) shouldn't be comparing them.

    I agree with you, his last two years his OPS+ average is up to 100, I am hoping our stud prospects are better than that at key positions. In 19 and 20 he was far better (116,127) but he has regressed since then. I will give him his props he is a really good 25 or 26 man on the active roster at a great price for the Twins. But at every turn that is more than a couple of days others should move above him in the pecking order

    If the Twins control him for 5 more years including this year then that changes my opinion on how the Twins handle him, doesn't change my opinion on his future but that isn't important.

    If Ober was about 3 years younger (like Varland) I would completely agree with what you are saying, but he will be 28 in July, if he isn't good enough to make the major league roster at age 27 can we all agree he isn't part of the Twins future rotation (he will have 3 years of control after this year) and he just a pitcher of depth and another guy they pipeline failed to produce? If that is what the Twins are thinking, than I am 100% behind sending him to AAA to start the season. My hope with Ober was that he would make a nice 2 or 3 year run as a starter then be traded away for prospects before becoming a free agent. (you know the way pipelines are created) (the same with Ryan and Varland since they both got a late start in the majors and there is no reason to sign either long term since both will be controlled into their very early 30's isn't that the whole idea with not getting players into the majors until their mid 20's, have them controlled though their prime for cheap and dump them before paying any real money?

    Solano is a 35 year old with a career OPS+ of 92, he is good depth, but if AK or anybody needs 10 or more days, he shouldn't be the answer, He is the answer to the question - Who is a guy that can give rest to multiple positions get an occasional start at DH and maybe fill in a few days if somebody needs a few days. IMO that is the reason Solano was brought in, not to be the everyday first basemen or DH and if it was I am done with this FO. If now isn't the time to get Larnach, Wallner or Julien to a lesser extent some time (with the rest of the team healthy), than when is? Those three are on the 40 man roster use them or move on from them because in all reality they need to be figured out before the next wave of guys need to be put on the 40 man.

    I would love for Lee to start at 3B and Miranda at 1B, but I doubt that will happen, my next choice would be Julien at 1B, again I doubt that, so the logical choice is Gallo at 1B and Larnach and Gordon platooning. I really, really don't want Solano to have a starting spot would rather see a younger guy get that playing time even if he isn't totally ready. (Even Wallner for DH)

    Koufax was pitching in the majors at age 19, and for 5 years pitched half of his games out of the pen, Nelson Cruz in 2004 as a 23 year old hit 42 doubles,26 homers and batted .326 at 3 levels, in 2005 he hit 32 doubles, 27 homers and batted .290 and was in the majors. He didn't get to the minors until he was 20 (not sure why) it took him getting traded twice to be given a chance and a couple of years later was hitting 30 homers a year. You can find players that develop into really good players in their mid 20's and later but they are the exception to the rule and the majority of those players don't turn into all star MVP/CY type of players. The end up as bullpen pieces and utility guys. I like Gordon and besides screaming to trade him 4 years ago I cheer for him but the overwhelming odds say he will never be much more than what he is and teams need this type of player to fill out their roster. You can hope for him to become a solid everyday player but expecting him or players like him to is just asking to be let down.

    Doesn't enrage me that Ober spends time in the minors what is confusing me is that he goes to the minors while lessor pitchers pitch valuable innings for the Twins. What also confuses me is that some how it will take him forever to get stretched out to pitch 5 innings if he pitching in relief. If that is really the case he is a long way away from pitching 5 innings in any game since he hasn't pitched more than 2, couldn't the same same be said for Maeda?
