My 4 biggest disappoints are Wallner, Julien, AK and Lopez, with Lewis as Honorable mention (only because of injuries again) If a player hits .223 with a OPS of .598 and then .196/.514 really a big disappointment or just a bit under what was a expected?

I love that he just turned 21 today (Happy Birthday), my inlaws are from Lake Charles area and hopefully he will be another in a long line of MLB players from that area.

Not sure where you are going with this, how do guys that failed as major league players and were completely out of MLB baseball have anything to do with prospects? I was replying to this - " If they are improving keep running them out there until they aren’t regardless of age. " if you understand the rules of MLB at some point they player has to be put on the 40 man, why was Keirsey not drafted in the rule 5?

Larry Hisle debuted in the majors at age 21 with the phillies, and was 4th in the ROY at age 22. He did lead the league in RBI as a 30 year old. Ward debuted at age 25, but didn't become a part time player until 27 and full time at age 28, never lead the league in RBI but was a two time all star. The thing with age is that at some point they have to be put on the 40 man, and generally decent or better teams are not putting a 26 year old guy on the 40 man

Trevor Larnach Can Unlock a New Level

The bad, they have only let him have 8 at bats against left handed pitchers, the good, most pitchers are right handed.- 20 replies

Honest question is Left field worse for injuries than second base? -
The Twins are a better and deeper team than KC and this is proven by their record. It is reflects that a few of the Twins are under performing (Vazuez, Kepler, Pablo, Buxton 43 million) and quite a few are over performing (Castro, Miranda) and many doing what was expected but I will take guys performing on the Twins like Witt any day.

Is this True? The Royals are basically where the Twins were a couple of years ago, building offensive from within and trying that with pitchers but needing to bring in some older pitchers (Lugo/Wacha) Perez could be compared to Buxton, Lewis compared to Witt, Ragans compared to Ober or Ryan. Super confused on this take that somehow the Twins are different than the Royals (Well besides being the better team)

The big issue I see with is and a bunch of others is the Twins don't let Larnach, AK, and Wallner hit against lefties, so having all three on the team means you needs three right handed hitters to back them up. Larnach (190 at bats, 8 against lefties), AK(178 at bats, 8 against lefties), Wallner (33 at bats, 1 against lefties and in 46 at bats last year his OPS was .481) Sure they could do Miranda/AK at first, but at this point there is no reason to have Miranda sit against righties (.966 OPS), IMO one or two of those guys are likely not with the Twins organization next year.

I used age because the majority of the time it matters. It matters on how much of a leash a player is given, it matters because it also is a good tool (with other stats) on the a players future. You could have used many examples of pitchers that more closely resemble Festa (Sands, Winder, Jax , Ober and others) and his age, prospect ranking, and stuff, but you used one of the best pitching prospects the Twins have had in 10, 20, 30 years and one of the top pitching prospects in the minors? and wanted people to ignore that fact or not read into that? I think it is obvious to everybody that reads this site knows that prospects can struggle, what you did isn't much different than the people that said EROD compares favorable to Juan Soto, when in reality it just isn't true and when you did this you had to know you would get push back on the comparison, and people pushing back on a back comparison doesn't belittle Festa at all, I believe we all want him to be the next Ryan, Ober, Kluber or any of pitcher that profiles similar to him.

There is that small little thing that Berrios was 22 and Festa is 24, but sure lets ignore that part of the equation. I am not giving up on him, but his first two starts reminds me of Jax.

Acuna, Albies aren't comparable to Lewis for multiple reasons, the main reason being both of them would have hit free agency at age 27 (prime) and not age 30. (also at the time were pretty much injury free) Murphy is also not really comparable because he wasn't going to be a FA until age 31 and signed a 6/73 million dollar deal and Royce wouldn't consider that number. Riley is a bit closer he was going to hit FA at age 29 but was comping off a season where he played 160 games and was top 7 in MVP, and was on his way to another season of 159 games and top 6 MVP. Also in his contract there is a no buy out club option the last year. Which means it is more like a 9/192. I would think that would be what Lewis would be looking for minimum. After this year I don't think the Twins will give Lewis to 20 plus million, with Correa at 37.33, Lopez 21.7, Buxton 15.1, that would put just those 4 under 100 millon.

The Diamondbacks played one of the worst games I have ever seen defensively to the great benefit of Festa, thanks Dbacks 😀. Festa looked pretty darn good for 3 innings and with the time he had between innings it was even more impressive. Not the best start, not the worst start but pretty decent with lots to look forward to. Congrats Kid on your first win, and hopefully many more to follow.

Would I extend him, absolutely, why not it isn't my money. If I was working for the the Twins and under the constraints they are, would I? I wouldn't, there is a pretty big difference in entering Free Agency at age 27 ( Rodriguez) or 28 ( Carroll and Witt) and age 30. I have said this about all these type of articles of Ober, Ryan, and Duran, if you are in the Twins situation you don't need to pay a premium for guys after age 30 and when guys come up to the majors at 24 or 25 take advantage of the controllable costs and prep the next group, If you have a player that can make the majors at 20,21,22 (fingers crossed that player is Jenkins) you by all mean extend that player to get him in his prime years (late 20's) Take a few examples of guys they extended and how turned about by age 30 (Sano, Polanco, Kepler, some might say Buxton) it isn't worth the rest of a team like the Twins. (And I haven't even mentioned his injury history)

Are you saying the A's are going to trade him with 5 years (or whatever it is) of control left? And if so what team is going to pay that kind of price?

Everybody should drop some cash in Vegas on SWR, because he still has some very, very long odds. Best of luck SWR an keep up the good work.

If the plan is to count on them next year, then you need to know if you can count on them. I get the 26 man roster issue, but it doesn't seem like smart planning to go into another season counting on 4 guys you don't know if you can count on.

I am not a huge fan of Rocco; would I have liked Ryan to come back out, yes I would have, but with the way Alcala has been pitching, it made perfect sense to bring him and set up Duran and Jax for the 8th and 9th. I am not going to complain about that decision. As for Buxton, if he catches that ball it would have been an amazing play. It certainly looked like he was aware that he was running at a high speed and was going to hit the wall pretty hard (which he did anyway) but I think we should be happy he was self aware enough to get into a position to protect himself.

More reason to get Lee up sooner than later to get him some experience, and probably Julien and Wallner as well.

They are 15 games ahead of 4th place with 86 to go, and it isn't like the the 4th place team is Houston, Texas, Baltimore or Boston. They are 8 and 9 games ahead of 2nd and 3rd, while it is possible they could fall as far as 3rd I highly doubt that either.

As for Scherzer, I don't get the worry about cost, it would be about 11 million (unless I am missing something), and there is chance with enough starts here at home they could make up most of the money. Also he would instantly be the best Twins pitcher. I get the concern about prospect capital. I would not be for Verlander. I also agree with others that it is very unlikely either gets trade since both teams aren't out of the playoff hunt.
