  1. I think people should look around the major leagues. "Slightly above replacement value" on the bench is not some god awful notion. In fact, that's actually pretty good. I'd welcome him back, provided he is the 5th outfielder and OF number 4 can play CF.
  2. He's pretty spry for an old backstop now. He got there in a hurry.
  3. Feinstein is also her Senator. But yeah, we are in a cozy little echo chamber here and I wonder how much people truly understand Trump voters. But the divides in this country are real and stark and those of us that can occupy somewhere in the middle are the ones that are really screwed politically. We're shouting into the void.
  4. Gordon/Tucker is not terrible. They may not see better than that and I don't see how waiting changes that. The return is going to underwhelm and that's on Thibs....but water under the bridge. We have to move on.
  5. Well, if Flake is looking to make a name.....this would be the time. Lob that grenade.
  6. Clearly they have identified an area of the organization they are unhappy with. Good, if that's your conclusion - act on it.
  7. Good for baseball. I hope this is the beginning of a true embrace of this mentality. And Griffey is the perfect spokesman for it. Love it.
  8. I know, was just throwing the sarcasm out and going straight for the jugular,
  9. Also, upthread someone wanted Luvello.....did we miss how that team collapsed? In part because their bullpen imploded? (Quite possibly from overuse)
  10. Not that hard for me. More like "Reads name at the top of resume.....laughs hilariously"
  11. Yup, pics or it didn't happen. I'd love to see that thread.
  12. Good luck to Paul, the decision is justifiable though. I don't know who the next manager will be, but I'm sure of one thing: fans here and elsewhere will have no trouble finding all sorts of issues with their management choices. They'll be wrong all the time and we'll make all sorts of assumptions about their motivation styles, in-game decisions, and use of veterans. As it ever shall be.
  13. There is zero chance the Diamondbacks sign him. Zero.
  14. That's probably a good bet. The Mets are the other team I'd place high on the list. I wonder if the White Sox are also a darkhorse.
  15. That's a good question. I think ultimately someone caves to that idea, but I do wonder what that means for his market. Who currently has a SS opening that might spend that much money? The Twins can absolutely be in on this and offer to let him play SS. I wish I could feel like hope about this is justified.
  16. That's an exceptional article.
  17. If anything this would indicate being active using multiple avenues to improve your team is the way to go.
  18. I think SS is pretty solid and so is OF, particularly since I think Machado signs as a SS only. I would love Manny, but barring that dream I prioritize Inglesias and trades. My point was 1B/DH/Donaldson are nowhere near the top.
  19. This is a really, really weak group. I think signing Escobar is the best thing we can do here and move on to other positions. I don't mind a flyer on Donaldson, but it doesn't thrill me.
  20. What are we looking at for lines right now? Zucker-Staal-Granlund Parise-Koivu-Nino Coyle-Greenway-Foligno Brown-Ek-Hendricks That sound right?
  21. Time to open up the checkbook. Should be a fun offseason.
  22. Rooting for the Brews and Rocks!
  23. I won't argue either of those points...but my god is the NFL topsy turvy from week to week.
  24. Dozier is going to get a one year deal to try and make good, but I'd never give him more than 1 year from this point any way. Odds are that he's cooked.
  25. Personally, I think most candidates fall into the Futurama John Jackson vs. Jack Johnson range. I guess you could call that milquetoast, but I don't think that's the problem entirely. Part of the problem is that the Dems don't drive people out to register, but another part of it is that the Republicans do a great job not losing people either. The Dems are quick to dismiss voting segments because their policy priorities shift. Rather than finding a way to keep everyone and change priorities, they willfully drive people away. Example: Republicans dog whistle racists and xenophobes in, but send out their religious stooges to assure the social conservatives about the Supreme Court. Everyone stays, add more people. Dems? They care about inequality so "Screw you white rural males". As if you can't have both in your voting bloc. The creation of infighting and division within their own voting blocs has long been the left's biggest problem. Cut your nose off to spite your face kind of thing.
