  1. No, Pressley did use it more and credits our pitching coach for pushing him in that direction. This isn't something to bash our coaching staff on, they did the right thing. What Houston did was push it even further. Now that's great and is a credit to Houston (and something we should strive to be better at) but let's not pretend the difference is between lighting your home with a fireplace and one with electricity. It's far closer than that.
  2. Who is Lake replacing?
  3. For the record, in a previous fangraphs article the Twins did highlight his spin rate with his curve ball and encouraged him to use it more. The Twins didn't miss this particular case, they correctly identified this with analytics as well. The criticism might well be warranted, but just throwing that nugget out there.
  4. Milwaukee definitely had some flukes help them too, as in the case of Aguilar. He was a waiver wire pick-up and a guy they had no intention of playing (as evidenced by the Thames signing) but given playing time he had a breakout year. It's why it's so critical to give long looks to players on the bubble. You never know what you might have.
  5. I hope the Twins are active with one big trade this offseason. This is a good time to leverage someone like Nick Gordon into an impact player on the 25 man roster.
  6. We also got through the toughest part of our schedule and are right there for first place.
  7. Arizona isn't very good, but Alexander had a number of nice plays today I thought.
  8. Well that sucks for that kid, he's one helluva player so far.
  9. Well that sucked
  10. I like the blitz mix today. With so much talent and money in the secondary, you should be able to be more aggressive like this. I hope we see more of this approach.
  11. He is a year and a half in, his recruiting class is pretty much all freshman on the field. They've had a good win against Fresno and a bad loss against Maryland. You can see that there is more talent on the field, more explosiveness, and more competitiveness than the previous regime. I don't mind looking at a freshman group playing well in Ohio St. as a moral victory. You are all over the place on the very idea that people might be happy with that because they haven't won enough Big 10 games, 3 games in. I guess I prefer to judge the growth of the season at the end of hte season, especially if I were using Big 10 wins as my barometer considering there are still six more of them. Maybe just chill a little bit. I'm not going to award Fleck a 10 year extension for a moral victory, but I can appreciate that it's a good sign for the program. Now he has to build off of it, if he doesn't - than I'll be critical for it.
  12. Or you could just wait and see how things play out? No one is crowing about the moral victory here, but you are dismissing progress this season only halfway in. That's not fair either. I'll wait to criticize/praise them as things happen I guess.
  13. You've also dismissed any growth in the program with 6 games left in the Big10 schedule. Perhaps you should save some of the hyperventilating until season's end? Moral victories like this one, can be building blocks for exactly the kinds of wins you're asking for.
  14. Fresno St. was not a creampuff win. They have to go 3-3 to "show improvement" in their record and they'll get a chance to have a few Big 10 home games too against the softer part of the Big 10. No one is saying actual wins don't matter, they do. But moral victories can matter too.
  15. Hell yes. Look at his home-road splits - this guy was doomed by the bandbox that is Yankee stadium. His velocity is still good, his strikeouts are still there, and if you take him out of Yankee stadium you probably get back a really good pitcher. Sign me up.
  16. Dumba is a good player, I don't get the hate on him.
  17. I would say after the coach has had 3-4 years. I think their start has earned them the ability to take credit for moral victories. I hope they also regret leaving a chance to win on the field. If they go 3-3 over the next 6 games they will have improved. And I see a much better product on the field each week compared to last year. Personally, I don't like Fleck's schtick, but things do seem on the uptick. And when they are, I can recognize moral victories. I think you're being far too harsh.
  18. I think You're projecting. I've heard this silly excuse in four different markets. It's what fans do to rationalize why their team was outbid. It's not true about MN anymore than it is here in Phoenix when they make the same excuse.
  19. If you guarantee me a huge cash out at the casino...what do I care about the buffet choices? Money is what I came for, that's what matters.
  20. When you are transparently building from the ground up.....moral victories are just fine. The key is learning from them.
  21. The one where money talks. Players go where they are paid the most. The Twins don’t have to overpay any more or less than anyone else. Offer the most money = sign the player. Just. Like. Everyone. Else. They use your tired argument in Wisconsin, Phoenix, and even Chicago BTW. It’s false there too.
  22. Everyone has to outpay their competitors. This tired nonsense about “coming to Minnesota” should be banned as part of the forum’s rules. It’s false and tiresome.
  23. Same for me, but it is on FS1 if you have access to that.
  24. "No one wants to come to Minnesota" is something every market other than NY, LA, Bos, and Miami say when someone signs elsewhere. It's nonsense. Money talks, always does. Of course Castro and Nolasco came here because we offered the most money. That's what FA is.
  25. I see games on until 9pm here and wonder how I used to stay up to watch sports. Maybe I'm getting old.....
