  1. You can bet the pockets it will come out of ain't gonna be ownership or the MLBPA. It needs to happen though. Personally, I've stopped giving the league any of my money, so I'd like to see it happen regardless.
  2. Keep. His value is weak and there is still upside. Those aren't the kind of guys I'm keen on dealing unless someone really likes him.
  3. Your spin is as optimistic as possible. I'd look at a team that got a lot of career pitching years and a few Nick Ahmed/David Peralta spikes and say things went about as well as humanly possible and they still choked away a playoff spot to a league you say isn't that scary. There is no immediate help on the way, no budget room, and a near certainty that htey lose either Grienke or Corbin. Not to mention Pollack or other notable parts. I agree, talk radio and fans can often be too black and white, but their basis for doing so in this case seems to have some sound footing. We're all speculating, so I could absolutely turn out to be wrong and Grienke is unavailable, but it's the first phone I'd pick up and try.
  4. The question is....would they be punished? All signs point to a great result in November for those of us that just want the GOP crushed, but what if it doesn't happen? Blue voters do not have a reliable track record. It worries me to gamble anything on that notion.
  5. Man I hate political calculations like that using the Supreme Court. I tend to agree with you Brock but....ugh. Not the way it's supposed to work. (And, before anyone jumps on it....yes, I blame the Republicans. This started to this degree with Garland)
  6. That is not what is being hinted at in Arizona. They have a barren farm, a loaded division, and a number of guys with pretty decent trade value right now. It's absolutely being discussed. Whether it happens or not is anyone's guess. If they decide not to rebuild and hope to resign guys, it likely frees up Grienke as a salary dump. If they rebuild, he gets moved that way too. I'm guessing he gets dealt sometime this offseason as a way to retain Corbin/Goldschmidt/Pollack.
  7. I could not agree more. I have the feeling he will try to force this to work, fail miserably, and set the club back for years. Flexible and forward thinking are just not adjectives I would use to describe Thibs.
  8. I would venture to guess this could be said of virtually every post postulating about offseason moves for their favorite baseball team. Sorta misses the point. I can tell you that AZ sports radio has been talking about the need to deal Grienke for about two years now. The biggest mark against my thinking is probably that the D-backs may not be retaining any of their key players and about to embark on a serious rebuild. In that case, Grienke is still available, but perhaps for different reasons and with more willingness by the club to retain salary to improve return.
  9. Arizona may give up Grienke as a partial dump. They simply can't afford Corbin/Pollack/Goldschmidt and to keep him. You'll have to give up something, but if the Twins agree to take his whole contract the price might be pretty reasonable. (I think it may even be cheap)
  10. Sorry, i was referring to Escobar. Grienke has 3 years and about 100M left.
  11. Between Butler and Keenum he's going to have more crow than he can eat in a year.
  12. I guess it depends what he'll cost. There certainly would be a point at which I walk away. But 8-10M and I'm in.
  13. I still try and deal him to Boston. I think you have the best odds of getting a return from them that can help going forward. Here's the real question....does Thibs just utterly ignore this and REALLY screw us all over?
  14. My detraction is based on about 1,000 at-bats. He had two MVP months, he's had nearly a dozen months as a big leaguer where he was scraping for a .500 OPS.
  15. Go get Grienke. I'd try and bring back Escobar and then here are just a few guys I'd target: McCutcheon (CF insurance, right handed OF, DH) or Leonys Martin, Escobar, Nelson Cruz, and any bullpen guy with a pulse.
  16. yeah...I expected the Lakers on there. This sounds like he and Kyrie have a plan. Nothing about Jimmy as advertised has been true other than he's a pretty good player. To me, I'm at "good riddance" stage. What could we even reasonably get for him from these teams?
  17. I think it has more to do with the contract they sign. So showing him off a bit with a good offense could be mildly helpful. It's not a big thing, just something ot think about.
  18. Odds Butler is a Wolf in a month?
  19. It's not ideal. I like Max Kepler and I'm rooting for him to have a Rosario-like breakout next year. However, he's in a weird boat of not being good enough in CF where the bat is a plus, but not good enough as a hitter to be a plus player in RF either. Obviously, if Buxton becomes what we hope finally, CF is all locked up, but that's far from a given. And Kiriloff looks like a guy you might be able to call up sooner than originally expected. If that happens and Buxton can't play CF....wouldn't Kepler be the logical choice? (We're down a lengthy hypothetical to be sure)
  20. I agree, his defense is amazing. Let's get that other important element working too.
  21. One thing worth noting is that Siemien is a free agent after this year. If he flashed well and got a nice contract, he could net a pretty decent comp pick.
  22. The victim coming forward and providing so much context and evidence has turned this into more than a "he said/she said" IMO. I think it was a weak "he said/she said" about a week ago, but we're into much different territory the last few days. I'm not sure more women need to accuse him given how credible this woman appears to be. Her willingness to come forward really changed the equation.
  23. I guess I don't see Kepler's glove as deciding his future. His bat is the question mark. Kiriloff's future spot probably depends on whether Buxton ever becomes what we want him to be. If he doesn't, Kepler is likely the CFer going forward. If he is, then we have a logjam. But we're a long way from that. Hopefully Kep and Buxton's bats help that logjam become a reality. It'd be a nice problem to have.
