    I agree, but you kind of make my point - ultimately all of these things are on Ryan. We might not like that Molitor feels confused or mystified, but at the end of the day he can't make Ryan tell him what's going on or do Ryan's job for him. This, to me, speaks to the idea that Ryan was dictating last year and Molitor was trying to make due. I'd prefer Molly have a little more say in things as well, if he had maybe we avoid a number of roster blunders last year.

    But that's not what is at issue here. I'm sure we all think those conversations happened (or should have), the question is - why is he responsible that no action was taken? Why is it his responsibility to be tracking AAA box scores to see where guys are being played? Is he in charge of the AAA manager? His quote implies that he (and others) were mystified about what happened. It's not his job to ensure what should happen. He might have had that exact conversation and maybe even said "Terry....Polanco needs to be at SS in AAA" But after that....it is 100% not his job to do anything else. That's on Ryan. This thread feels like a witch-hunt on Molitor. Isn't Danny Santana enough? Why do we have to bash hiim for things that aren't his job?

    Molitor's job is to manage the major league team to wins. It isn't his job to monitor the minors. Do you want him weighing in on contract negotiations? The draft? Promotional work? Where does that line end?

    Your analogy doesn't really fit. Recruiting underlings is part of the job of the manager of a location. What you're arguing Molitor should've done was know what the DQ manager 8 towns over was doing with his accounting ledger. That's not his job to oversee. And if he tries to, he's probably diverting time from what he's really supposed to be doing. Yes, he can weigh in on things from an organizational standpoint but once the season starts, his job isn't to worry about anything but the major league team.

    Joe Blow running the DQ in your neighborhood shouldn't be responsible for what the Dairy Queen CEO is supposed to do. Molitor should be focused on getting the major league team ready to play every day. To win every day. He shouldn't be remotely concerned about where AAA managers are playing guys. He should pass off his thoughts to Ryan on players that are coming or going, but what is happening in the minors is Ryan's job to oversee. Not his.

    But it's not his job to dictate where those managers are playing those players. You are blaming the middle manager for not doing the CEO's job.

    I don't think we should expect Molitor to be pouring over minor league box scores to make sure people are playing where they are supposed to in AAA or AA or wherever. That's not his job.

    I could buy this argument if TR and Antony had shown a history of emphasizing the importance of playing players only where they were best suited. But that's far from the case, in fact, we have mounds of evidence to the contrary.

    Yeah, this. Polanco is so much more advanced as a hitter, there is no way Buxton should lead off while he hits 9th.

    Luis Castillo's filter was brilliant. Burl Ives was a favorite of mine as well. But TROLPO? Damn I loved me some TROLPO. The wiki site, short lived as it was, also contained some absolute brilliance.

    I miss BYTO, there was a little bit more of an "unhinged" element to the conversations and I miss that. Things wheeled a bit more freely and as a result there was some pretty awesome stuff we came up with over the years. We were our own little whacky society of Twins fans with our own language, memes, etc. I miss the hell out of that. That said, I see the vision for Twins Daily and I've come to appreciate it's existence as well. Like Pseudo said, most of us have known each other for a huge portion of our adult lives so the sense of community from BYTO is still here. And the baseball content here is really, really good, so it's been fun to merge those elements.

    Huh, yeah, not sure where I pulled Grossman from. My bad. Park I understand misgivings about, he's 29.

    Well, I don't like Grossman much, but if we're going to heap praise on Mauer for his OBP it's worth pointing out that Grossman did provide that skill in droves. Even if he also was a butcher in the field. With Vargas, I see things to like. He's a player who looks willing to learn, adjust his approach, and try to get better. I try not to judge players who aren't given adequate, consistent playing time too harshly. And with young players I'm even more cautious. I know you feel good about Max Kepler (and so do I) but if you started watching Max about halfway through August through the end of the year you'd also wonder why anyone would be high on him. He was brutal in all phases. Those things happen to young players. I'm wiling to judge Vargas can't play or isn't a part of this team's future when I've seen a good, long stretch of playing time. And he's only had one of those two years ago.

    He has to have opportunity to do so.

    I would argue virtually anyone should've been starting over Plouffe. Yet another victim of that decision. So, yeah, he should have kept playing. And he damn sure should be playing over Adam Lind or the husk of Justin Morneau. The kid has hit in the minors, he's not even a fluke like Dozier. There is a history there of production.

    He was on a tear in July and then inexplicably stopped playing with any regularity for all of August.

    I'm not sure I care all that much about pedigree. All of your concerns, except for defense, are as much or more so issues with Buxton. I suggest the issue is unfairly holding limited initial results against a player. Especially one given limited consistent playing time. Vargas may well be a non-factor, but like all young hitters I don't measure them by the sum total of their early at bats but by the growth they show.
