  1. Slider has been a plus plus pitch (as has his fastball.) And it was yesterday. Check the pitch values at fangraphs. As far as the changeup goes, you do want a pitch that is a good 10 mph plus slower than the fastball. FWIW, Rodney's is about 12-13 mph slower (so was Johan's before the arm issues.) The thing about Romero's is not velocity, it is that tailing movement that almost makes it look like a screwball that is great. In my latest scouting report of Romero for my prospect list, I described his change as "close to plus now" and still standing by that. Wish he had a slower pitch, but so far so good. Plenty of time to develop a fourth pitch
  2. .300/.337/.500: what Matt Kemp is hitting for the Dodgers. Wonder whether there might be an interest for a swap there. Hughes contract is slightly better and for the same length. Frankly, the one thing that the Twins should try to do is swap him for another bad contract hoping that the other guy would catch lightning in a bottle.
  3. Jespen and Capps are free agents too
  4. He is fine at 2B. Just has not played it much because the Twins do not rest Dozier that often. Not out of the realm of possibility that he will be the starting second baseman for the Twins in 2019...
  5. A. Stanton singled. He did not reach on errors B. The home run pitch was a strike: C. Lights out closers strike hitters out instead of putting the ball into play. D. Rodney threw the pitches that lost the game.
  6. Got to add May to the mix. He will come back before Santana... Hughes needs to go. There is no reason or rhyme to keep him.
  7. \ Because the starting shortstop is hitting .303/.351/.561 with a .381 wOBA and a 139 wRC+ and the starting second baseman .264/.340/.448 with a .347 wOBA and a 116 wRC+ in the majors. Unless you want him to play in a corner OF position, right now they are better players than him occupying the positions he can play. That's why.
  8. Great news. He will be an asset to the Twins in the near future. Plagued by the home run ball (25% HR/FB) but his SIERA was promising 3.77.
  9. Gardy > Molly is like saying C- > D+
  10. A couple things here: - Unfortunately the sweep by the Yankees made a lot of Twins' fans to forget the sweep by the Rays, a bottom feeding team that allegedly "tanked" this season. Say whatever you want about the Yankees, but being swept by the Rays is inexcusable. - I'd disagree about the assessment that the current pitching stuff is the best the Twins can do. In addition to May and Romero in the farm (and I am not even counting Santana) who will likely be improvement over Lynn and Hughes in the rotation, pushing those 2 in the pen, the Twins can go out there and trade. That is an option. If we are saying that the Curtisses and Slegerses and Jays cannot be trusted to contribute in 2018, they should be trade bait and go before they get lost to waivers or Rule 5. - If I were the Twins right now, I'd keep a close eye on Kohl Stewart (forget his ERA) and potentially see what he can do in the pen.
  11. I'd like to see what Slegers can do in the pen after he tosses his horrible slider. Hale was fine with Atlanta and then went to the Rockies in 2015 and 2016 and sucked. Has been better afterwards. Is he the answer to the Twins' problems? Hale not. But Slegers isn't either. These two (along with Cave) and the 3 most likely to be taken off the roster when the nextest bestest thing comes along. Slegers has about 3500 reasons, a couple decent nights' sleeps, and a few decent meals to be thankful to come to the bigs even for a blink...
  12. 2 out of 3 are doing ok. Jay is back from groin issues. Reed is out likely for a while with shoulder impingement syndrome... Matt Magill is doing better and likely the next reliever up
  13. Nah. The third time around an order is the new 100...
  14. Here is a fact that you might find interesting. The Twins are in the middle of a seven game losing streak. Only 3 teams ever had a longer losing streak during a season (1953 Yankees with 9, 1990 Reds & 2006 Cardinals with 8) and ended up winning a World Series. Over reacting? Nah. Postseason contenders, such as we think the Twins should be, just do not have such losing streaks.
  15. I think that this streak should be a good reminder for the next time the league asks the Twins to play two home games in Puerto Rico or another place. With that trip plus the weather cancellations these guys have been playing like they are on a vacation, Spring Training or something. Someone needs to send a message and Molitor is not the guy to do it, because he is not willing to sit his boys or change their roles...
  16. Here is the formula for xFIP: As you can see it relies heavily on HR/FB%. Maybe you did not know that... So if someone has a 40 HR/FB%, xFIP is not a good criterion to predict future performance. Matter of fact, xFIP does not account for any of the 3 things I mentioned.... Maybe you did not know that either.
  17. It is not time yet, until we see what his numbers are when the 40.0 HR/FB%, .538 BABIP, and 39.2 LOB% land towards Earth values... BTW, I hear a lot about Luke Bard and Nick Burdi. Where are they now? At least Molitor is using him as a mop up pitcher. There are bigger fish to fry in the Twins' pen than their mop up pitcher.
  18. .366 wOBA and 129 wRC+ as of today, makes me think that the "adjust back" was done and over with it.
  19. Still a bit early. Pressly is a useful reliever. This season is still very young to start making conclusions about his degree of usefulness. More so because of a couple of things that are a bit of an aberration: - He has been throwing his FB less than half of the time and his breaking stuff more than half of the time. I doubt that this continues through the season - He is a full 1 mph off his FB velocity in 2017. Same reduction with the breaking stuff. Not a "high 90s" guy any more... Only 8-1/3 IP. Give it 3 times that much and let's see how it goes...
  20. This is good stuff, but Berrios is more impressive than this: You have to factor in average pitch velocity as well. Physics says that the higher the pitch velocity, the higher exit velocity when the ball is hit the same way (think about hitting a ball to a wall, the harder you hit it, the harder it will come back) Brent Suter's average fastball is at 85.9 mph and he throws it 60% of the time, his curveball is 73.6 mph and he throws that about 18% of the time, his change 80.1 mph and he throws it 16.4 % of the time, and finally his slider is at 77.7 mph about 6% of the time Berrios's ave FB is 93.5 mph (61%), curve 82.5 mph (27.6%) and change 84 mph (10.3%) If there were a metric that factors this, Berrios's numbers would be way on top there...
  21. Melky Cabrera does not belong in a contender. The one thing the Twins can do to upgrade their OF situation (and have a plan B for Buxton's next migraines) would be to ship Grossman to Baltimore and see if they are willing to eat about half of Adam Jones's salary ($17M) and call it a day.
  22. Sure. And there is data that supports those 2: b. .209 BABIP c. 4.3 HR/FB on the other hand: Max Scherzer: .218 BABIP, 6.5 HR/FB Corey Kluber: .206 BABIP, 8.3 HR/FB David Price: .226 BABIP, 3.8 HR/FB I don't see anyone questioning the stuff of those 3. He could had perfectly said that 3 games are just too few to determine whether someone has really improved, especially with this weather, and called it a day...
  23. Thrylos

    Machado

I think that they will trade him as soon as they receive an offer that will offset the loss of ticket revenue with him gone. It is a cost-benefit equation.
