  1. I saw Slegers pitch in this game earlier this month. He was horrible. No command of his fastball other than when tossed it straight in the middle, 91 mph fastball. Average secondary stuff. Very disappointed. He does not look like a major leaguer at this point and not sure that he has the talent to make it happen.
  2. Gonsalves has turned a corner. Small sample size or not, in 3 games (17 IP) he allowed only 2 walks. His career number is bit north of 3 BB/9. Last season at Chattanooga he was 4.5 BB/9. I hope he keeps that up; if so, he will get himself in the conversation for a rotation spot with the Twins next season Good to see Gordon finally hitting (and taking walks) at that level. Heir apparent to Dozier or centerpiece for a top of the rotation potential MLB-ready prospect. Kirillof, on the other hand still has to prove himself. Over-rated in this ranking by far, if you take into consideration that he performed worse than his teammates Blakenhorn and Diaz last season, and he is out with an injury.
  3. At some point the Twins need to make the decision whether they will contend this season or not. Based on the Astros' series and the fact that they will need to beat the Astros (and at least an AL East team) to get to the World Series, I would think that the smart way would be to sell and reload their system with MLB-ready arms. Which means that Santana, Dozier, Kintzler, Santiago (if there are any takers at this point) have to go. So do Belisle and Breslow. Hughes's contract makes him immovable, but it sounds like this is another lost season for him (the scar tissue will not just melt away...) I like the Rosario move, if they use him. They should also start bringing AAA players who are about to become MiLB FAs to see what they got (Baxendale, Eades, Hurlbut etc.) Now, if they really want to compete, they need another rotation arm behind Santana and Berrios, which will push either Santiago or Gibson in the pen as the long man. Then they need 2 arms for the 8th and 9th innings in addition to Duffey, Rogers, Kintzler. Then hope that Pressly get fixed in AAA and then that pen might look like a contender's. Cannot build a contending pen with spit and bandaids, and if you are not willing to do what it takes, you might as well fold it, sell high, and reload for next season. I hope that the days of half-rear end Terry are over.
  4. Just saw that picture. His hair matches his jersey
  5. Nope, because Diaz might turn into a carbon copy of Frank Thomas
  6. Good stuff. Just a note: Seth Romero is still a student at Houston. He just is not a member of its baseball team any longer. He was not kicked out of school
  7. Because the last thing they need is a first baseman. They already have top talent in the position (Lewin Diaz, Alex Kirilloff) and plenty of OF that can handle 1B in their organization.
  8. I don't get the Granite ranking at all. You either rank based on potential ceiling or on actual performance plus age combination. Granite is a guy who needs to get on base to steal bases to succeed. He is 24 and hitting .247/.287/.315, so he is not performing up to par for this type of ranking. His ceiling is Jason Pridie at this point if he ever makes the majors. The other thing that makes zero sense is that he jumped 11 spots while actually sucking...
  9. Semantics but: 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 7 K whether is nice, it is not close to "dominance". Dominance would be something like: 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 11 K Bit of difference there. Good to see Gonsalves return to pitching well and keeping his team long into games, but still he if far from "dominance".
  10. Sub "Adrianza" with Gimenez, and he got it about right. Nice clubhouse guy and all... Twins' ERA with Castro catching: 3.38 (1118 PA) with Gimenez catching: 5.98 (5.14 PA) Berrios' hiccups yesterday with Gimenez is another indication of the problem here. Plus SSS or not, Adrianza has a .952 OPS, Gimenez' is .604 (and .638 vs LHPs)... BTW, Garver is hitting .313/.389/.625 vs LHPs in Rochester #FreeMitchGarver
  11. True. But 5 solid guys these days, without 2 exceptional lights out guys, do not make a competitive bullpen. Would those lights out guys be Burdi and Chargois? Maybe, but the Twins need that
  12. Seth Romero does not have many options other than transfer right now...
  13. Gibson and Wimmers were late round picks. Both of them were the 7th College pitchers taken in their draft. Jay was a reliever and his future has yet to be determined. Cannot be compared to Wright or McKay. Really.
  14. Nah, I think that the Twins will trade the first round pick for 2 second rounders, international pool $, and next years' first rounder. Wrong. Sport.
  15. I think that Brunansky as a hitting coached messed up Mauer. Check his BB:K ratio pre Brunansky and post (14:16 this season.) A full month ago, looking at the numbers, I predicted that it looks that Mauer might have a breakthrough season in 2017 with an .850 OPS +. Still stand by this prediction...
  16. There is another thing that the Twins have to look at, which has not been discussed: 11 = the current number of LHSP in the Twins organization (above Rookie leagues) 1 of which (Santiago) is a MLB FA past this season, and 4 (Turley, Hurlbut, Wheeler, Tracey) are minor league free agents after this season. This leaves 6 under contract for 2018, above Rookie leagues: Mejia Wilk Gonsalves Wells Thorpe Carlini Thus is the sorry state of the LHSP in this organization and drafting McKay will go long ways fixing it.
  17. Lot of homeristic helium on Carlson. I just do not see him go until the supplemental picks at the very best.
  18. Sports illustrated does not have a mouth or hands to call anyone. The person who called Greene that in Sports Illustrated is Lee Jenkins, their basketball , and mainly NBA writer. Matter of fact, this is his only baseball piece in SI. Mountain of salt the size of Dead Sea needed there regarding taking his opinion as anything close to "expert". Wishing the kid well, but the Twins should (and hopefully will) pass and get someone another pitcher who is more of a surer bet to help them sooner than later.
  19. Good stuff, and he has great potential, but he has issues adjusting to hitting with wood, which need to be addressed. He is hitting .153/.210/.194 this season, after hitting .222/.306/.253 last season. One cannot continue to be sub-Buterean with the bat, and expect to be a major leaguer, no matter how good the glove is. He needs help and I hope that they realize that he needs help and they give it to him.
  20. Have you checked Greene's velocity the past few weeks? Maybe McKay is not pitching at 100% trying to save his arm as well...
  21. That was my first thought... That TJ surgery really went a bit too far
  22. The fact is that at the major league level in 2016, his 8.02 ERA, 1.869 WHIP, 6.20 FIP was below Santana, Gibson, Duffey, Nolasco, Milone, Dean, Santiago, Hughes, and Albers (other than the WHIP on the latter). That would make him their worst pitcher (as far as starters go) in 2016. Dunno what other facts there are, but that's the fact. Potential has nothing to do with performance. Hopefully he got it and will stay at the same level for a decade. Or more.
