  1. They changed the draft personnel: They promoted the guy who selected him.
  2. That's probably his floor, since his stuff in College as far as FB/SL went were a tic better than Perkins' in his prime. Jay can be in the Twins' pen tomorrow and be better than Kintzler, if healthy and if ready. Add Burdi, and hope that one of Duffey/Chargois/Reed gets it, and will get the Twins' version of the Nasty Boys. This is really great news.
  3. Have you met Tyler Robertson and his 88 mph Fastball? Size does not equal velocity
  4. 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 K, 6.75 ERA "strong spring showing" should be replaced with "unfortunate, but thankfully small sample size showing" Nothing strong about his showing. I still feel that his future is in the pen. He can pick a couple mph in the fastball might make a lot of difference. Otherwise, a Wheeler or Hurlbut type starter from the other side
  5. RE: Palka. His batting average does not tell all the story. He led the team with 8 walks and finished with .423 OBP. I wish that Dozier "struggled" that much...
  6. For sure the Twins will be buyers next off-season. Mainly for front office types and coaches and managers at every level of the organization. Couple of SPs too. Maybe
  7. Minor league games against other teams' minor league clubs started today Give it some time.
  8. Not arguing, but he chose to ride pine for team Puerto Rico for 3 weeks rather than being with the Twins to see what he can do. His choice.
  9. Was at the game today. Mejia very good and he got squeezed by the umpires on some strike calls. FB 92-94, ability to throw the slider both for slides and at the dirt and great command of the changeup was pretty impressive. At this point, I'd take him over Santiago who appears to be a long reliever for PR. My biggest surprise this Spring has been Matt Hague, who got yet another hit; all this guy seems to do is hit, and he heads the team in OPS with 1.495. Definitely in a 3-way competition with Park and Vargas. Pen was good. Unfortunately one or two good relievers will be caught in the numbers game again this season
  10. I want the highest OBP guy to hit lead off. And that is the highest 2017 and not 2016 OBP guy. If I had to look at my crystal ball, I'd say Polanco.
  11. Based on the talk out of Fort Myers today, I will not be surprised to see a: Santana, Gibson, Hughes, Santiago, Vogelsong rotation. Uffda, but...
  12. You are using ERA to make an argument against May (and in 2015 it was 4.00) and for Berrios. Have you checked Berrios' ERA last season?
  13. Wishing him the best. Sad to see because this spring it looked like he finally might be at the point where we all hoped he would reach when he was traded to the Twins.
  14. Agree 100% with this. But I have wondered with May how much of this and the music thing is a distraction vs an escape. If it is an escape that makes him release and then be able to focus on his game, it is great, but if it is a distraction... Based on what I saw from his composure yesterday, when he did have butterflies and messed up in the beginning of the first and then came back, despite the home plate umpire squeezing him, this will be a special season for him Video games or not.
  15. I think that it is a good deal for the Twins. That $99 would translate up to $1089 for someone who goes to all 30 games, based on a $33 concession spend. To tell you the truth, they do not even need that $99, or the $3.33 per game. All they need to do is ask people to make a donation of a $1 that would go to a different charity each game, standing room only. They will make $ out of concessions, they would be good corporate citizens, and might attract more people than the $99 thing, because of the charity thing and the just a buck a game and no commitment thing (fill up on $9.99 hot dogs) Now, is this a good deal for a consumer? Depends. It is a great deal for people who are flying Spirit Airlines and do not pay any fees. For the rest of the humanity, Stubhub and the like are better deals...
  16. Not bad; however Castro is a treadable asset and at the point that the Twins decide they can have Garver at 100%, they should trade Castro for controllable pitching or Garver's replacement in 5 years... That can happen in 2018
  17. I still do not see the single most effective way that will not affect the quality of the game listed: Cut down the time between innings in half, and get rid of the circus act tackiness between innings. Charge more for commercials or charge the same for shorter commercials for the TV to not take a hit or even allow commercials on a small corner of the screen during the game Simple and effective and does not change the game. Nobody needs hot dog races, T-shirt canons, or screeching choir children
  18. Molitor spoke about the back up catchers during the game last night and called Garver "bit more of a long shot" FWIW. Still think that the job is Gimenez's to lose. Not what I would do, but these are the signs I am picking from the Twins.
  19. That was quite a draft. Nobody made it to the majors, compared to 5 from the following year (2012) draft. Still a big believer on both Michael and Harrison. Harrison looks like he gained some muscle last winter will be interesting to see what he does this Spring. Michael just needs to stay healthy, Expect big seasons for both of them. Hurlbut outperformed his draft spot. I don't know what Wheeler needs to do to get a cup of coffee with the Twins, when they trot Andrew Albers and Pat Dean (both inferior pitchers) out there... Rodriguez is an interesting case. He is still a couple of seasons away, I just do not see him as a starter and there are half a dozen plus relievers ahead of him, unless he has a crazy season. Forgot that they released Corey Williams. I kinda expected him to be in this list, until I remember him being a Saint for a moon or so last season
  20. Pretty sure that they are some who think that Duffey should not be starting, but relieving instead
  21. That is pretty inaccurate. Only 4 Twins position players participated and that after each of the Team USA players had their 3rd PA, around the 7th inning. Same with pitching. Other than DJ Baxendale coming to get an out that Andrew Miller and Jake McGee could not get, Twins pitchers did not pitch before the 7th. All Spring Training games have subs by the 7th. In late innings it is Rochester - Pawtucket pretty much and not Twins - Red Sox, for example. Nothing unusual and that was very tough competition for the Twins, both ways.
  22. I think that this makes sense. I'd actually start Romero at Fort Myers for a month or so. For the ones who are advocating for the top prospects to start the season in AAA: There is one practical issue that Chattanooga is a better place for them to play in April than Rochester: Temperature. I don't want the top prospects to pitch in 40 and 45 degree weather, if they don't have to. And they don't. Let the Tepeche's and Vogelsongs of the world pitch in Rochester for a month before they move on, and then promote the prospects in May. Same reason I would start Romero at Fort Myers. If it were AAA Las Vegas, it would have been a different story.
