  1. Um... Do you remember how the Twins acquired him?
  2. "Mastroni" (but Dick's at fault with this one too.) "More-NO"
  3. Danny Santana. Nunez is still out with his oblique injury. Probably another week or two until he plays...
  4. 2 words: Gardy Andy
  5. I will let game temperatures average 60 degrees before I make generalizations about small and cold sample sizes...
  6. Never understood why people do not give a chance to Polanco at SS. He is a SS for the time being and much more valuable there than 2B.
  7. And apparently Kris Johnson is ahead of them both (no; has to do with the turn in Rochester rotation...)
  8. Interesting to see that. Back before the last expansion (and the Rockies,) the Twins dominated the Montana and Wyoming markets and parts of Colorado, Idaho and Utah markets. That's were most of the erosion has been, not in IA If anything, the Cubs have been losing ground there the last few years.
  9. I'd like to see Alex Meyer up north ASAP, but I do not see this happening soon. As a matter of fact, I think that if the Twins need a starter from AAA, it will be Trevor May and not Meyer. Other than the 40-man situation (which can be alleviated since Eric Fryer and Brook Raley are on it,) I think that Meyer has few ways to go with the shoulder. He is taking a full 20 minutes or so to stretch it with resistance bands before each game. He is on a pretty severe pitch limit. And I think that the Twins have every reason to do that. I'd rather see him healthy, fully rehabbed and go deep into games in MN for many seasons, than have a cup of coffee this season. Frankly, I just don't see it happening...
  10. If the Twins are smart, they are already shopping Colabello, but not to Koreia this time. Shop him to Baltimore, they need a 1B. The RBI leader should bring something back... Having a bunch of 30 year old DHs (Kubel, Colabello, Willingham) starting ahead of the team's future (Arcia) does not make sense. Ditto with Suzuki and Pinto. And Colabello should not be at the outfield. He single-handedly lost a game with his glove last week. Nice guy and everything, but you got to look for the future here...
  11. Let's see if they want Willingham back
  12. Because Mt Rushmore is a big franchise thing, in my book it will have to start with Walter Johnson and Clark Griffith. I'd take Killebrew as the third one no problem, but I would have to think about who the fourth one would be... Not Carew. 11 seasons only. My gut says Bucky Harris, but I have to think about that too...
  13. Substitute Nunez for Bernier and that's about right.
  14. Better be May...
  15. I think that he should keep writing on things he knows about, like the Mariners, and quit talking about teams that he never watches play (unless they play the Mariners,) like the Twins. That's the biggest problem with him and lot of others who are trying to become "national" overnight...
  16. I wish and it is logical and makes sense, but if Gardenhire wanted to play Escobar instead of Florimon at SS he could have done it beginning a week ago. Still needs to be done. Florimon makes Butera look like Babe Ruth.
  17. Yeah. Agree with the principle. Esp. since there are a few of us who do not eat flesh and thinking of a "steak dinner" as something would rather feed to GardynAnday than eat.
  18. This is a loaded question and, yes, there are a few different camps who will not change their (our) minds, but all I have to say is this: Let's sweep the Tigers this weekend!
  19. Hate to say this, but this article is a prime example of making a hypothesis based on incomplete data and then look for root causes, but when you really look at the data, the big picture is different. What do I mean? Here is the data (from that writeup) that they use to formulate their hypothesis (actually more like a thesis, since they are presenting it as a fact.) The problem with this is that a. they are not normalized (i.e. 16 surgeries over 100 total pitchers is much bigger percentage than 30 over 1000) and not normal data in an epidemiology study (because this is what this is trying to be) is not acceptable and b. the sample size is not noted (related issue.) Here is the normalized data: (The first column is theirs, then the total number of MLB pitchers each season and then the % of MLB pitchers that season who had TJ surgery) 2014 - 16* (437 total pitchers = 3.7%) 2013 - 19 (679 total = 3.0%) 2012 - 36 (662 total = 5.4%) 2011 - 18 (662 total = 2.7%) 2010 - 16 (635 total = 2.5%) 2009 - 19 (664 total = 2.8%) 2008 - 18 (651 total = 2.8%) 2007 - 20 (666 total = 3.0%) 2006 - 18 (635 total = 2.8%) 2005 - 16 (606 total = 2.6%) 2004 - 12 (632 total = 1.9%) 2003 - 15 (612 total = 2.5%) 2002 - 13 (609 total = 2.1%) 2001 - 12 (591 total = 2.0%) 2000 - 13 (606 total = 2.1%) If you ignore a couple of outliers and the incomplete this season that pushes down the total n (that are not significant anyways based on the sample size of 600-650,) the TJ incident has been around 2.5% +/- 0.5%. I'd love it if I were able to make a serious business case for a 0.5% deviation over a sample of 650
  20. Dan Gladden's career OBP with the Twins (as a lead-off hitter nevertheless) : .318
  21. Baseball America Objective enough? According to them, based on his 2013 season he has the best changeup in the organization. Nothing new there about this changeup. Recent (in the Twins' organization) but not new...
  22. Yesterday Florimon's play on the field was inadequate as well. Matter of fact looked like Nishioka out there... He needs to go for a while since he is hurting the team on both sides of the ball. Escobar is the logical replacement.
  23. Got to love baseball reference new "age" feature. Here is May's page. The negative numbers in that column are the years he was younger than average for the league. The fact is that he has been young for the league at every step of his career and right now he is 3 years younger than the average AAA pitcher. And if you look at the "average AA pitcher", you will find that he struck out much fewer than May and had higher FIP than May as well...
  24. Another problem that makes me think that there is no way that he will be in NB in a couple weeks is that the weather up here is so darn cold still with the highs barely touching 60 and the lows maybe 40. Mid May is a better bet. They should not subject him to that anyways. Zero reason to rush.
