  1. Darnell should be starting for the Twins instead of Deduno while Pelfrey is out. The ghost of Gurrier's past is what the Twins are counting on. Past performance does not mean much. They did that mistake (at least) once trading for Yesterday Eddie when he was the same age Guerrier is and he was awful. They got to learn at some point.
  2. I hope that at least it is Milwaukee's Best or something like that...
  3. I think that Nolasco just read this post before his start tonight 9 and counting
  4. Yeah. Good luck for Dozier to beat Cano and Pedroia (and not based on reputation only...)
  5. Probably a single overzealous person who woke up on the wrong side of the bed made a bad decision. They realized that it was a bad decision and they reversed it. A simple declaimer that each of those podcast do not reflect the opinion of the MLB or the Minnesota Twins should probably be in order. Even the MLB.com hosted blogs have it...
  6. You must be kidding, right? By October of 1920 the 1919 world series was old news and they were showing clips of the 1920 World series. That was a good 94 years ago and I do not even think that a 6 year old would remember much about it, so you are looking for 110 year olds (or so ) I do remember on the other side of the pond in the 70s that they were showing "news clips" similar to this, where they show those silly ads that come before the previews and the previews these days. That was quite a find, if one takes into consideration that a good 80% of the silent movies ever made are lost because their master tapes got lost. Pretty amazing actually. That playograph looks just like the first MLB game simulation app that ESPN had c. late 90s or so. And that app looked pretty good back then
  7. So Colabello does not play RF
  8. I think that losing Guerrier would hurt the Twins about as much as Bartlett's retirement... At this point I'd like to see them have Darnell in the rotation in Deduno's spot and call it a day.
  9. And why are they exclusively playing him at SS now over teammates Niko Goodrum and Levi Michael? Do they know less now? The last 2 seasons he was in the same team as Goodrum (the Twins 2nd round pick) in Etown and Cedar Rapids and increasingly getting more SS than 2B time... Nothing about what the Twins "knew". It is all about what people think they "knew"...
  10. How? W-L ratio and ERA? fWAR: Pelfrey 2.1, Correia 1.7, Deduno 1.1 FIP: Pelfrey 3.99, Deduno 4.04 normalized WHIP (ie. WHIP * (.290/BABIP)): Correia 1.31, Pelfrey 1.33, Deduno 1.35 IP: Correia 185.3, Pelfrey 152.7, Deduno 108. K/9: Pelfrey 5.95, Deduno 5.58 BB/9: Correia: 2.19, Pelfrey 3.12, Deduno 3.42
  11. That was an excellent article and I hope what Badler is saying about Polanco ("glove first shortstop") will silence his critics who sight unseen want to relegate him to second base already...
  12. Really? Who is playing SS today and played SS yesterday? Florimon needs to get demoted to save Gardy from himself.
  13. a. Santana is/was a safety blanket in case there is an injury to Fuld. Right now, he is the backup centerfielder. b. Catering? Think again: about $3,000 a game, which is the league minimum per game.
  14. He is a Minnesotan too. From Lino Lakes. They also released another LHRP Andre Martinez, 6 round pick in 2012. They both pitched in Etown last season, are in their age 21 season (which would had been above average age in Etown) and were in EST. Not sure what the scoop is, but they are caught in the numbers game. All of a sudden, the Twins have a fairly strong LHRP pipeline in the minors from AAA to A.
  15. Using the same logic, Colabello (who made his pro debut on May 22nd last season) had only a year and a month of minor league experience before that and about the same number of games under his belt.
  16. That entire season, two seasons ago, he performed as a weak number 4, strong number 5 for a contending team. Not like a top of a rotation pitcher. How many Cy Young award votes did he get? How many number one pitchers do you know who strike out 4.5 per 9 and have FIP around 4? Regardless what DickNBert called Diamond back then ("The Twins' Ace") and the illusions of the Twins' General Manager that one should build a staff around him, he is just that: a filler.
  17. Just reported that the A's claimed Dodgers' Nick Buss off waivers. The Twins passed and apparently decided that they are fine with their CF active depth being Kenny Wilson, since apparently they like him and Erik Fryer and Brooks Raley more than Nick Buss. That was a bad decision...
  18. Yes. Suspended while at E-town so he had to start the suspension there and that season does not start until after the draft. Speaking of, Vargas was never drafted (even though eligible) and signed as a free agent.
  19. Arcia and Pinto will be position players. Willingham is on the DL and pretty much out of the door and Vargas is better than both Colabello and Parmelee. The Twins will be better tomorrow if they swap Colabello with Vargas. That simple.
  20. 23 games: 6 in the GCL in 2008, 15 in Beloit in 2011, and 2 in Fort Myers in 2012. A grand total of 39 balls came his way Here are the other Twins' players (minus Fuld) with CF experience: Chris Herrmann: 11 games at Fort Myers 2010 (24 chances.) Pedro Florimon: 1 game at AA Bowie, 2011 (2 chances) FWIW, Eduardo Escobar has never played CF in pro ball.
  21. No. The division got better What the Twins were "winning" with Ryan as the GM and Gardenhire as the manager was the title of the weakest division in baseball and that about half of the time. When they met real competition (both during the regular season and the post-season) they went belly up. Also, do not forget that Ryan was the architect of the late 90s Twins, dismantling the (real) Winning Twins' teams that MacPhail built.
  22. The problem is that the only centerfielders in the organization are in AA and A+ and Kenny Wilson (the most "experienced") is hitting .233/.292/.326 in AA...
  23. If so, let's see what he can bring in a trade.
  24. I'd be more excited about Gilmartin's than Diamond's performance. Diamond has fallen behind Johnson and Darnell at the LHSP chart for a good reason.
