  1. If the Pirates do to Worley what they did to Liriano, there would be no valid excuse to keep Rick Anderson around. Maybe people might start realizing that the Twins' starting pitching has been stinking all these years because of the pitching coach...
  2. The players do not move their families. Usually they move themselves. Same thing about MiLB players getting promoted. There are players who play in 3 sometimes 4 different levels in a season. You cannot tie a club's hands but having rules like that. What if someone is awful? Should the teams keep him for some period instead of releasing him? Those are the rules. If someone wants more family time and a stable living situation, there are other jobs...
  3. That would be similar to a movie star asking for a slice of revenue from a paparazzi. First amendment anyone?
  4. If the stone approaches 100 mph and is on target of course. Gardy 4:20
  5. Seth, told you, you were opening a can of worms Alright. Matthew 14: I think I missed the stripper part. Seems that Matthew did too. Matthew 11.11:
  6. Not true. Yohan Pino, Kris Johnson, Logan Darnell, Chris Parmelee, Trevor May, AJ Achter, Matt Hoffman, Matt Koch, Cole Johnson, Jorge Polanco, Mitch Garver, Ivory Thomas, JD Williams, Kohl Stewart, Brandon Peterson, Aaron Slegers and company, based on their performance so far, would have to disagree with you
  7. Wrist MRI is good and he should have it, but there is a larger issue here that has not been mentioned at all by the Twin Cities press (and that is a troubling fact, by itself) : The original injury was a fielding injury. This time he did re-injure his wrist when he tried to slide head first on a base. The Twins benched Sano for admiring a home run he hit off a former teammate who was pestering him constantly when with the Twins. What Buxton did, was way much worse because it really impacted him. I don't know if it is a coaching issue or Buxton, but someone should install to the kid that you do not slide on head first and touch the base with your healing wrist. Period.
  8. That is a huge can of worms, as are any discussions that mix baseball with politics and religion and the such. just my 2 cents and I will leave it at that.
  9. Like those twin female pro-wrestlers? Maybe you and Eric should invite them to your show to talk about that
  10. Totally agree with this. Plus, who will play CF if they demote Hicks now? Colabello or Kubel?
  11. May is small sample size here is Plouffe's annual out of zone swinging percentage: 2010 - 46% 2011 - 29.4% 2012 - 26.8% 2013 - 26.2% 2014 - 18.8% Normal progression. He is 27. It usually happens. It is called "maturing as a hitting", "reaching his prime", etc. Totally normal and there is no reason that it should not continue until he reaches his peak
  12. They both are in the same situation: Day to Day with wrist issues. They hurt.
  13. I am not going to discuss the Gardenhire Twins and whether or not they were successful, but Ryan does not have any excuses for the late 90s Twins. Revenues cannot be used as an excuse. Look at the Rays for example. And their revenue situation is similar to the Twins' then. Simply: Ryan (and his team) who are still the same people who are running the Twins, did not draft talent and was adverse to trading aging players with some value for talent. That is what teams with limited revenues do and complete (Rays and A's for example.) Also, that "revenue" excuse is really smelly to me. The same venue was full and brought some good $ when there was a better product on the field both before (the MacPhail Twins were leading the majors in attendance) and after the pre-contraction Ryan Twins. So it is not the strike's fault, the Dome's fault or "luck". It is Ryan's fault. Those Twins did not have talent and Ryan (and his team) is directly responsible for that mess, as he is for this mess.
  14. Herrmann and his positions are an interesting story: In College (Alvin CC & Miami, one year each) he was a third baseman and caught and played LF some, but was drafted by the Twins as an OF and then started to catch as well. Having more organizational depth in OF than in C around 2011 and 2012, he started to catch more. With that ratio reversed recently he started to play the OF more. So he is a pretty versatile guy, but in a Brandon Inge (who actually is a pretty good comparable for Herrmann) and not a Nick Punto way.
  15. Vargas has always been a good hitter. He actually was better than Sano when both were in Beloit (of course he is older than Sano, but still was young for each league he played in.) Working with Mientkiewitz at Fort Myers for a full season made wonders for his play at first. There are people who have not seen him play recently and look at him and think that he cannot play, but it is not true. This Spring Training he actually made some pretty great plays with the glove for the big team including a diving catch on a liner in a televised game, which I hope opened some eyes...
  16. That's what the minor leagues are for: instruction Goodrum and Harrison made 2 errors each. They are playing new positions this season. The 5th was a throw from Polanco to the first baseman, which could have gone either way. Who was the first baseman? The 5'10" (maybe) SS/2B Aderlin Mejia. So all errors involved players learning new positions. This is what the minors are for. To err and learn from your errors. All about instruction and player development. Errors in the majors do matter. As far as the "victimization" of Wimmers goes: at 25 he is 2 years older that the average kids who are playing at high A. If he cannot strike them out, it is his fault... He has 1.7 WHIP, 6.7 K/9 and 3.7 K/9, in a league he is too old for. If he does not turn those numbers around soon, I will not be surprised if he starts to work from the pen to get his act together...
  17. Colabello is horrible at the outfield and terrible at first base. Now his bat has been quiet, because pitchers have adjusted and got new scouting reports. The last 2 weeks he has been hitting .171/.244/.268. That is Buteresque. The last 4 weeks Kubel has been hitting .203/.292/.228 . That is also Buteresque. This is the expected performance level of those two 30+ year old guys, not the mirage of the first few days. If Suzuki suddenly regresses to his expected level, this team will be in trouble. They do have issues with outfielders right now so Kubel might have a spot until Willingham returns, but there is zero reason to have Vargas (hitting .287/.371/.504 and playing better first base than Colabello) in New Britain, and Colabello stinking it up both with the glove and the bat in the majors. I like him, great guy, great story, but great stories do not win games, and it is time for this team to turn the page on the 30+ year olds who will not be part of the future.
  18. It is interesting that Van Steensel is playing at Cedar Rapids. On one hand, it is the highest level he ever played in the States (and the Aussie League is probably comparable to the Midwest League level of competition,) but at 23+ he is just too old for the league. He does have decent off speed stuff that kids at that level do not know how to handle and is not afraid to throw balls in the dirt, but he real has to pick on guys his own age Got to see what he can do at high A at least, at this point...
  19. Talk is cheap. Actions matter. And Hunter decided as a free agent to sign with the strongest team in the Twins division recently, and seven years ago declined the Twins' offer and signed with Anaheim. Money talks, not love for the Twins, for these guys, despite what they are saying publicly in interviews.
  20. Thank you so much for writing this Diane. Happy Mother's Day and wishing you the best
  21. Exactly. And that was the same GM who dismantled the World Championship Twins. Same MO 2 decades later (and last decade. Do you remember the Yesterday Eddie trade?) I totally agree with the title of this article but to be fair, one should argue that, in addition to Guerrier and Kubel mentioned here, Deduno, Correia, Burton, Willinham, Colabello, Suzuki & Co, among others should sit or go away because they are not part of the future. (I would love it, if that happened, btw, but this is not the way this team rolls.) [h=1][/h]
  22. And Guerrier. They have 22 active players on their roster (with Arcia not counting and Kevin Thomas on the DL.) Florimon and Herrmann will take care of those 2 spots and if Arcia and Hicks take their positions, it all evens out to 24 in Rochester as well...
  23. Substitute "Meyer" for "Samardzija" and I think that this will be the 2015 rotation depending on health. Meyer likely will be better than Samardzjia anyways
  24. ERA + is ERA. K/9 Pelfrey was better. And better is subjective. Objective measures say that others were better
  25. If you count winning percentage and EEA he was. With every other measure he wasn't.
