  1. One I was hearing by a certain nameless someone, referring to Plouffe's defense (mainly) last season: Ploofda
  2. "Bad" or not "bad" enough, these words belong behind closed doors. Imagine if one's manager or Department head (in an everyday job; heck even in an entertainment production, which is somewhat more comparable) was telling customers how "unmotivated" a particular employee is because he needs to study what the company sells. That stuff should never reach the papers... But it has been the Twins' MO for players who they want to oust. And it is not young players only.
  3. Big Escobar as the shortstop for the Twins fan here, for a while. As a matter of fact, I kinda analyzed it and figured out that he would flourish, if he were given the SS job this season, last November (just read the last sentence if you don't care about numbers and graphs). And as far as fielding goes he already equals Florimons' defensive runs saved (in fewer innings) and is ahead of him in UZR/150. And with the bat there is no comparison. One of the great stories this season and I hope that it is not lost as far and the Twins field management and brass goes...
  4. As far as the original question goes about Correia's over and under: He is a pitch to contact type pitcher (I know, what a revelation.) And the perceived performance of these types is BABIP susceptible: If you have .350ish BABIP so far (Correia), you are awful, if you have .182 BABIP the last 365 days (Thielbar) you are great. It is what it is and the choices people make. Still, I'd rather see May up soon.
  5. Ditto And I do not understand the analogy. The cheese is Grew-air and the pitcher is Goo-rear. Close but not cigar.
  6. Claiming him? They did not have the chance. The Twins did not offer him arbitration and he was a free agent with the ability to play for whomever he wanted to play. He wanted to play for the Red Sox and eventually both sides made it happen. A huge factor for his choice was his buddy Pedro Martinez who worked hard to make it happen. I would suggest to everyone who is interested about Ortiz' side of the story on what happened while with the Twins and how he got to Boston to read his book...
  7. Thanks for commending on the subject...
  8. A couple things to consider: a. He will be 58 this August b. He made more than $40 million playing ball So, really, he does not have to work and he does that because he chooses to do that. This does not mean that he will want to jump into a stressful manager position...
  9. Quote from Rob Antony tonight about Buxton's injury after the MRI (emphasis mine), from here: I don't know about what he meant, but this is what aggravated really means. I feel that the future of the Twins is solid with that guy at the helm...
  10. I gave quantitative facts, you are giving opinions, like all the excuses I've heard about keeping Anderson (and Gardenhire.) Are there any numbers to support Anderson at this point? I am all ears.
  11. For some of us, he already is a top 10 prospect...
  12. Jorge Polanco would like to have a talk with you. Maybe Nico Goodrum too, but certainly Eduardo Escobar. I am on the minority here, but seeing Santana play for the last three seasons, I really believe that his ceiling is utility. Punto. Not bad, but that is what it is (in my book of course.)
  13. And do you remember exactly what the Twins did to him? The same thing they did to Craig Breslow...
  14. Here. This is pretty analytical but couple years old. Looooooooooooong list.
  15. I'd add a couple of notables to the list: Scott Erickson Joel Zumaya (2 Spring Trainings ago.)
  16. Dozier is neither Gyorko (career .321/.386/.530 in the minors, twice in top 100 prospects) nor Kipnis (career .297/.378/.486 in the minors, once in top 100 prospects, All Star in the majors, career 118 OPS+ in the majors.) Those guys are more similar to Longoria than they are to Dozier (career .298/.370/.409 in the minors, career 94 OPS+ in the majors.) If the Twins are smart, they will look into their talent pipeline in middle infield (Rosario & Polanco mainly who are like the 2 guys mentioned, plus Goodrum possibly) and sell really high on Dozier. But that is not the "Twins' way". .
  17. Sub Arcia for Hicks and Plouffe for Rosario and leave away Williams and especially Danny Ortiz (who I doubt will be with the organization in 2015) And this is pretty close. Polanco might be another season away and Escobar/Santana should be the SS till then.
  18. I don't disagree but got to realize that Colabello is just a year younger than Kubel, has been stinking up the place recently and is as much part of the future as Kubel and Willingham. I would not mind seeing Vargas replacing him at this point.
  19. I'd be a Twins' fan forever, regardless if they move or not. There are Twins' fans and Minnesota fans. Different beasts. And the Twins have fans in more than Minny... That's the "home team", and all good, but they are more than that.
  20. Other than himself. Based on Spring Training and AFL, he really needs to show that he can hit at least AA pitchers (and he hasn't so far.) Hicks has proven that he can do that. What happens if Buxton gets called up and he pulls a Florimon on the plate (which is very likely?) Not a good thing for anyone.
  21. Because he is the only CF glove the Twins have from the majors to High A. Fuld is not a centerfielder. He can back up there, but...
  22. The math does not work here, unless you demote both Nunez and Hicks, which is not happening (and should not happen.) Colabello needs to go to Rochester. At this point Parmelee is ahead of him and he should be playing.
  23. If the kiddo is an active one, I would really stay away from that and the Legends Club. Or any front rows on a higher deck with a potential drop. I think that low and close and behind the net might be the best idea. But $$$$
  24. The only reason the Jays added Wilson to their 40-man is to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He is at least a couple years away from the majors, if he ever hits enough to make it, so a 40-man spot will be wasted on him.
