  1. a. Burdi is 21.5 years old, not a kid. b. Burdi will be the best Righty(*) reliever in the organization as soon as they sign him. c. I'd rather see the Twins have him in his prime and his prime might be very close. (*) that might actually not needed to be
  2. And even a guy in Omaha replacing Burton and Guerrier with Pino and Achter will work wonders for this team tomorrow. But they will not do it.
  3. That list was an answer to the statement that Anderson did not have anyone to work with. And you cannot compare a Nathan on his peak to a 38 year old Nathan, or a Rogers for that point. If you want to see a (3-4 year old now) list of people who got better after they left the Twins and Andy, feel free to look here.
  4. Do you mean something like this? If you disregard W-L, and ERA, Only 2 Hughes' numbers this season (and their derivatives, like FIP, xFIP, BABIP etc) are significantly different from his last 2 seasons: BB% and HR/FB. Not sure how much Anderson had anything to do with it.
  5. Both Smalley and Morris are way too full of themselves (as are Gladden and Blyleven btw.) TK is better, but he gets pretty monotonous after a while. The need some fresh blood and different perspective methinks (as if there was a part of these Twins that cannot benefit from freshness...)
  6. He had 2 Cy Young award winners (Santana and Dickie) and 4 guys who finished in the top ten in the Cy Young award in voting voting (Lohse, Liriano, Nathan, Rogers) Santana credits the same guy who Pedro credits for his Cy Youngs (hint: it is not Anderson) And all those 6 got better immediately after they left the Twins (compare their last Twins' season with their first seasons away.) Go figure.
  7. Anderson deserves as much credit for Hughes and he does for Correia, Nolasco and Burton If you look at Hughes' numbers, you will see that he is pretty much the same pitcher he has been the last 3 seasons with 2 notable differences: He cut both his BB% and HR/FB to a third. I would guess to venture that the first is likely the result of not tinkering with a new pitcher every third week like he did when with the Yankees and maybe feeling more confident getting out of New York. I hope that the second is sustainable, but the league average is 10 and he is around 6. We shall see, but happy that he is finally catching up to his peripherals
  8. And the Twins said that they will wait to sign them until they are done with Omaha.
  9. I don't think that people dislike Guerrier. He is a very likeable guy. Seriously: Based on what you have seen this season, who would you think would give the Twins a better possibility of winning? Matty or Yohan Pino? Matty or AJ Achter?
  10. This is another example why this organization needs drastic changes from the Front Office, to the manager to the coaches. "Hicks stinks", right? His OBP is .338. Denard Span's OBP the last 3 seasons with the Twins was .331, .328 and .342. So: Either Hicks does not stink or the Manager stinks who was hitting leadoff a stinky player day after day (insert Violent Femmes sound effect.) Something's got to give... and tired of mentioning the ridiculous practices of throwing certain players under the bus and codling others. Mauer's OBP is .342. So hit him 3rd and keep hitting him third until the cows come home. They just got to go...
  11. Hold it for a sec I think that Dozier deserves an All-Star selection Vodka was talking about an MVP. Thus why that list. Do I think that Dozier will get one? Nope. because of the reasons I listed
  12. OK. As of this morning: Mauer: .333 OBP Hicks: .338 OBP According to your argument, Hicks should be batting third then, no?
  13. Perkins 8/10 Duensing 7/10 Fien 5/10 Swarzak 5/10 Thielbar 2/10 Guerrier 1/10 Burton 0/10
  14. Sure. The Twins' MVP. Here is how he is ranked in the AL top 10 in a slew of categories: bWAR 8th BA - OBP - SLG - OPS - RS 1st Hits - Total bases - Doubles - Triples - HRs 9 th OPS+ - RC 10th As far as the AS game goes, he is playing the same position as Pedroia and Cano and Kinsler all of whom are ahead of him. They are not going to take 4 second basemen. Suzuki is 5th as a catcher. Forget it. These are the only Twins with votes. Perkins might make it, but (believe it or not) there are better relievers out there and they usually take more starters. Here is Perkins' ranking among AL relievers: fWAR 7th Sv 3th ERA 30+ K/9 12th WHIP 15th So I think that just Hughes makes it.
  15. Give Gibby some time. It is his first full season in the majors. He will eventually get there.
  16. And/or your system is deep. I think that both were the case here. The Twins did not pick the best player available. That would be Jackson. Also I don't even think that Gordon is the Twins' too prospect at SS. That would be Polanco. I think that Gordon is a top ten prospect in this system but no way a top five.
  17. indeed I think that I've heard that somewhere too: looking forward to your list Shane
  18. Yeah. That was his changeup that "needs work"
  19. got to love this gem from there: Glad that he has an ulnar nerve (they need an editor badly)
  20. Your list looks a lot different that mine, and not only on the top (Polanco is a ShortStop until further notice. Not a 2B, btw, has not played a single inning at second this season) I still do not get what Vargas needs to do to get consideration from certain people. He is hitting .319/.394/.505 in New Britain at an age 1.5 years younger than the average EL age (he is 23). For comparison's sake, Justin Morneau's career line in New Britain was: .293/.351/.475 (most at age 22.) Ranking a high school kid who has holes in his play (plate discipline and contact) number four in this loaded system, is pretty tough to accept...
  21. Not your fault at all and I was not picking on you. Fact: The Twins knew it 10 days ago that surgery was happening and did not say anything. Fact: The Twins know the timeline of this recovery. (or if they do not know, there is a bigger problem here) Fact: The Twins did not (and still will not) say that he is done for the season. That's the issue here...
  22. This is a kind of old news. Based on the diagnosis and his history, that was a done deal and out of the hat ten days ago. And still the Twins are not saying the whole story. It takes 2-3 months before he will be able to resume baseball with this arm. Pubmed Reference here. So we are talking mid August to September. And then he has to start getting arm strength, endurance etc and go to a rehab assignment likely. If you do the math, even in the best case scenario, it will be realistically impossible to return this season (MiLB seasons end in August.)
  23. Great guy and great pitcher and another one to add to the list of the mistreated pitchers by the Twins and their management/medical stuff... Glad he is doing well both professionally and (more important) personally...
