  1. He is what he is. The problem here is not Florimon. The problems are: - Ryan and Antony who kept him on the 40-man roster and promoted him to the majors. - Gardenhire who is playing him over Polanco. Players have the abilities they have. They cannot help that. General Managers' and Managers' jobs are to assess those abilities and act accordingly. This is totally on the Front Office and the Manager. And there is not the first time that this combination of suspects has done that. Even in competing teams: Brian Buscher, Jason Tyner, Matt Tolbert, et al. come to mind. Not to mention the Ponsons and Marquises of the world.
  2. Pitching is a strength in this organization all of the sudden, but they need to trim the tree from the top, to be effective
  3. I was looking at those as they were coming last night and had the same thought as others about Mauer. Interestingly, he is wearing exactly the same outfit that Suzuki is. And this is pretty much the only one of the bunch that is not costumy identifying its owner as belonging to the service industry (of one kind or another.) Perfectly acceptable summer business casual attire in any business and one can see it on a daily basis especially in seersucker form out here in the Nordeast. But black shoes with that Mauer? Not a fashion junkie by any means
  4. Missed Correia's bellhop outfit (same as Escobar's) :
  5. Indeed. Along with Jason Marquis, Matt Tolbert and Clete Thomas.
  6. The problem with the Twins' roster right now is not 3 IFs in the DL. Not counting first base (that can get covered by Mauer and Parmelee) there are 4 infielders who can play SS on the roster. The problem is that there is a single outfielder who can play centerfield, and Gardy & Terry call up a thirteenth pitcher, cutting their nose to spite their face. And starting the season with only one centerfielder at the high levels and Bartlett as the back up (remember that?) is the root cause of the problem here. Not all the SSs they got on the roster. That's the symptom.
  7. Observation: Did you notice who Gardy had leading off today? Not Dozier. The guy with the second lowest OBP in the team after Florimon.
  8. sell low, buy low makes no sense.
  9. They are at 12 now. Which might mean that one of the 12 is starting in 4 days. If that is the case, I think that it will be Swarzak and not Deduno. When Plouffe and Nunez return, a couple of position players (Florimon and Polanco?) will likely go down
  10. Sorry, I don't mean it negatively by any means, but you must be in your (early) twenties if you believe that. The male body's ability peaks in the early twenties and it is downhill from there. Lots of physical ability is lost in the thirties and most of it is gone by forty. Most of the thirty some year olds who are pitching at a high level do that by going to extremes in conditioning and they are pitching with their brains.
  11. Got to love this junk. Berrios is the same height as Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, an inch taller than Pedro Martinez and an inch shorter than Tom Seaver and Phil Niekro and 2 inches shorter than Nolan Ryan. (3 inches shorter than Blyleven.) This is the list of the pitchers who played the bulk of their careers in the lowered mount and were (or will shortly be) inducted in the Hall of Fame. Tall starters (other than Randy Johnson) have not really have had much sustained success the last 20-25 years.
  12. If the Twins dealt Perkins, they should deal Pinto with him
  13. Totally agree and kinda hoped that Deduno (and not Pino) took the axe. That said, something in the back of my head says that Swarzak might start that game... Not that I like it, but it is how they roll. Also to get another pitcher up here, they need to move one. They had 13
  14. Not true. Never played first base and he has 14 career appearances at third and those in GCL in 2011. He is a shortstop now and his play at shortstop with the glove has been improved the less he moves around. He is the best SS prospect the Twins have, the worst thing they can do is to start moving him around again. Hopefully Florimon will go away when both Nunez and Plouffe return. Escobar was the starting SS last time I checked. I suspect that Gardy will use Santana as the centerfielder when healthy again.
  15. qualify "can" please. Parmelee can play CF. Willingham too. You and me for sure.
  16. Oh crap. Hope the kid is ok.
  17. Yes it will. I have not seen Gordon play yet (other than film that does not tell you much, like how and where he moves when a ball is hit at the outfield, whether he is napping on the bases etc.) It is a good problem for the Twins to have (as long as they don't turn any of them into centerfielders.)
  18. I think that the Twins should roll with Polanco at SS as much as they can. His ceiling is (much) higher than Gordon's. I like Vielma a lot and I think that Gordon is a similar player. But Gordon still has taken about 8 official swings with a wooden bat.
  19. I don't see how a union can have a say in the banning of tobacco products at a workplace. No other union does. Excuses.
  20. So, basically, they are cutting their noses to spite their faces? And, darn, I can see maybe how a front office and field management stuff might have the political capital to do that, if they spot a few world series rings to prove that they have been doing something right, but... At least (some) fans are (slowly) waking up. Hopefully the owner will too and make changes. The acting GM joined this team as a marketing intern. Need I say more?
  21. I think that the Twins should have the best 25 up North at all times. Right now they do not. Before last night they were two (2!) games behind the second wild-card spot. Now they are 3. And they carry at least 2 position players (Florimon & Fryer) who have no business being in an MLB club, while there are better options in the minors. Not to mention that they carry 7 relievers. I don't know about what is best for Hicks, but I think that it is best for the Twins for Hicks to be their starting centerfielder while they are competing. And if they are not competing, they should be getting rid of a few veterans at this point... And I don't know how any fan can be rabid re: Hicks with Florimon in his place...
  22. Not sure about easy or not, but: - Hicks has higher OBP than Fuld - Hicks has higher OBP than Span had his last 3 seasons with the Twins (did not hear too many cries about how awful Span was.) - The Twins have no back up CF and 3 lumbering corner OFs. - Hicks is not even playing Centerfield in Hardware City. "Right" Choice? Guess a whole bunch of wrongs might make a right...
  23. Expected. Not sure that the shoulder is 100% :
  24. As I said a couple of posts above, he qualifies as a non-drafted free agent. That is different than an international free agent (e.g. Sano). This is like signing a kid from Mankato State who was not drafted.
