    Why exactly after last night's gem? The guy is in the same shoes that Blackburn was a couple seasons ago. He doesn't have it any more. DFA him. If someone bites and wants to work out a trade (like the Twins did with Nunez) fine, if not, you are over the opportunity cost of having him out there every 5 days. There is one option used this season on May, better be a playing option.

    I'd improve the DH rule with only one change: A team loses the DH if a pitcher hits someone above the letters. In that case the pitcher has to take the place of the DH for the next PA and the team cannot PH for him.

    re: Vargas, Polanco, etc: Morales is the tip of the iceberg. I will be surprised if there is not a spot(s) open for Vargas (& Pinto & May & Meyer) by next week this time.

    No comment about the last sentence. But... Pryor used to throw up to triple digits and averaged above 98 for a few seasons (in the minors; SSS fangraphs MLB data aside) before he got hurt. Now he is at 92 with the four seamer. Long way back, but it could happen; likely not in the bigs before the rosters expand.

    Don't look now, but the Twins are on their 23rd year of their rebuilding program, and whatever they tried for those 23 years apparently is not working, so they should probably try something else, like trading people on the top of their value (i.e. selling high), like Perkins is now or Willingham was 2 off-seasons ago, or Span was before his concussion. What they are doing is not working, either on the sort run (4 years) or on the long one. Got to change. That little almost there run in the 00s got them Target Field. They need to bring more back.

    Again: Either the Twins have talent (and the manager is to blame,) or the Twins do not have the talent (and the front office is to blame.) The Twins are not where they are (and have been since 1992) because of divine intervention...

    Totally disagree. It would had been a "good strategy", if it were fruitful and the results were good. The Twins are again embarrassingly horrible this season. They were slightly better (still plenty of season left to go either way) than the pits they were the last three, but that is not because of this strategy, that is primarily because a. they signed an upper mid level free agent (Hughes; or two - Nolasco has yet to come to fruition, but I hope it is an adjustment period, and Morales came too late, imagine a Morales in shape instead of Kubel from day 1) b. they allowed young players like Gibson, Santana, Escobar (the bromance with Florimon was finally broken) to play and c. Suzuki (another free agent.) has an one in a lifetime season. Those (other than c. that one cannot predict) were "good" (ie. effective) strategies. Not the recycling of old faces. That was a bad strategy, because it arguably cost them one of the few players who can play CF and had to replace him, so you have to add the opportunity cost here, as well...

    The problem with that is that you assume that Santana and or Nunez or even (God forbid) Florimon will be your every day short stop or get one back in a trade. That said, this team should have zero untouchables from the list of players on the 25 man roster or the DL. Maybe Hughes, but if you are getting something better, you even trade him.

    Agreed, in principle. But there is another thing in consideration (and I am not sure that the Twins' management is good at: ) Planning. These days, trading deadline, you plan. You say: "I plan to be a competitive(*) team in 2015" or "2015 will be a rebuilding year of incremental improvement, hopefully". If the Twins' plan is to compete in 2015, yes, you keep Perkins. If the Twins' plan is to rebuild in 2015 (as in 2012-14,) Perkins will be a luxury and a good return of a prospect or two who will arrive when the team will be compete, will be more beneficial for the Twins. But they got to plan, be realistic and don't half bake it again. Not sure they can do it. (*) where competitive means competing for the AL Central Championship and trying to make it deep into the post-season

    immoral? More or less immoral than talking to the newspapers about how bad a player a rookie teammate of yours, who just got demoted, is, if you are the player's union representative? Nothing to do with morality.

    Doesn't have to be a relief pitcher (or even with the Twins or Rochester or New Britain). If you remember, Perkins was a failed starter and a heartbeat and a grievance away to be what Diamond is today. Joe Nathan was a failed starter and was the throw in in that trade... Who knows what Kris Johnson (for example, just throwing a name) can do as a closer? I am certain that (at least) 3 AAA & AA pitchers (Meyer, May & Berrios) have higher ceilings than Perkins

    Agreed. Or adjust the DJ Hicks upwards to Kepler, for example. But this will be a different MO for this front office. They just have not traded top prospects.

    Glynn did a great work indeed, but severing the relationship with that town will not be a bad thing really. The Twins get no respect from the owners, the fans and the press of that town. If you went to the ballpark, in their store you will see a whole bunch of Yankees' stuff and very little to nothing Twins' stuff. Not to forget that the Twins' AAA team had to be on the road for 3 weeks last season because the Red Wings' owners decided to open their doors to the Yankees AAA team and give it priority for home days over the Red Wings while their ballpark at Scranton was under construction. So the happiness of the Rochester people with the Twins, should really be immaterial in this conversation.

    Because even top 10 talent has no choice of the team that drafts them... "Trust" is a moot point.

    Let the kid be healthy first and then let's talk about moving him up. Here is another consideration: The Miracle has close to the 10th best record in the minors. But still it is a game behind the FSL North leader (Dunedin) and just 2 games or so ahead of St Lucie and Palm Beach in the South. So this is a pretty amazing year for the Miracle and if the Twins were to promote the 3 position players who deserve it right now (Buxton, Michael and Polanco) they'd take them out of the competition. Still, I hope that Buxton is close, but the wrist has been a pretty big set back this year. Got to make sure that he is healthy and hitting. AA next season and a call up some time in 2015 (if the stars align for him) will not be too bad for him.

    I don't disagree about the Astros' ineptitude and bad PR here. My point is that they did nothing against the rules. Oral commitments do not count as contract offers, unless they are in paper and signed. And if that were the case, they could had not reneged...

    Does anyone have any evidence (other than anecdotal or opinions) that Fryer is a better catcher than Herrmann? Just trying to figure out how that rumor got started, because it was Herrmann (and not Fryer) who in the near past was ranked the best defensive catching prospect of his organization by BA. We know who the better hitter of the two is...

    That has to do with who the general manager is. If he/she is external, I doubt that Molitor will be it. If he (cannot see an internal female candidate) is internal, depending on who that is, the manage will likely be one of Molitor, Steiny and Glynn, or even (gulp) Scottie.
