  1. FWIW Torreys was in the temporarily inactive list in AAA because he was dealing with a family health issue
  2. I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  3. Because they are the Cubs...
  4. Brandon Morrow is about a month away from returning and with about $4.5M left in his contract. Great opportunity for the Twins to jump the gun and go get him from the Cubs.
  5. Wonder where we will stop hearing about Sano being a criminal after he was cleared of all accusations. Guess the haters will never stop hating.
  6. Research shows much better outcomes if one focuses on improving his/her strengths rather his/her weaknesses. Same with baseball. Better judgement of the zone will come with experience. For sure. I Sano is more valuable as a .250/.350/.600 that if someone try to make him into a .275 hitter because that .600 SLG can get to .400 if he loses his aggressiveness.
  7. And as far as his K%, I suspect the ones who get hives with that, would have nothing to do with Wil Myers (36.1%), Joey Gallo (35.5%), Austin Riley (35.2%), Javy Baez (31.7%) et al as well... or?
  8. Sano is second in the majors among 58 third basemen with 50+ PA in wRC+ with 162, after Anthony Rendon (176), third in wOBA (.415) after Rendon (.443) and Arenado (.420), and leads all third basemen in isoP .420, with the second (Rendon) hitting .319. He even has positive defensive metrics, improving from the past. To put his numbers into perspective, last season Machado had 141 wRC+, .377 wOBA, and .241 isoP. I remember quite a few posters here who were advocating the Twins go after him. Sano's 2019 (so far) is better than Machado's 2018 (and 2019 of course). And his .356 OBP is ahead of Cron's, Kepler's, Buxton's, Schoop's, Gonzalez's, Rosario's, in the Twins and only trails (Arraez), Garver, Polanco, and Castro. If Sano is not good enough, there is a long list of worse players in these Twins... And still is fairly rusty after losing so much time. Not sure what some people want sometimes...
  9. The Indians are tied with the WSox, Angels, and A's, 2 games behind the Rangers for the second AL WC. The Red Sox are 1 game behind. That's a more interesting number for them that their distance from the Twins. Unless a team is 5+ games behind by the deadline, I don't see why they should sell. It will be great for the Twins to sweep all 6 games, but for the Indians more important is to beat lesser teams at this point.
  10. Here is the thing: He had an oblique injury during the Camp. Those take months to heal. Likely responsible for his down time. The Twins decided that it is better to have him out there to take plate appearances and field reps than shut him down.
  11. He is 20. He'll be fine. There will be ups and downs... No need to compare him to others. Each player follows his own learning curve. Downtimes are necessary so one learns how to get out of them. That's what the minors are for. (If the Twins can get a young controllable ace for him, on the other hand...)
  12. Do you remember Gary Wayne? Similar funkiness but much better command and control and change up
  13. 'cause this should be about Smeltzer, hope the best for him. And because nobody posted one, here is a mini scouting report (and a bit of video) : 23 year old. Average four seamer and two seamer at 88-92. Two seamer is a better pitch. Close to average mid 80s cutter, below average low 80s slider, plus to plus plus change, plus to plus plus command and control. Will not walk many. Super funky cross body delivery with arm angle changes. Pretty effortless pitching, will likely stay a starter. Not much projection for velocity with this delivery.
  14. Yes. Adams was out of options, that's why they had to DFA him instead of optioning him. Might be outrighted if he passes
  15. Littell reminds be a bit of Liam Hendriks. About as good (but not quite) as Hendriks in the minors and real struggle in the majors as a starter and it took a different organization and a move to the pen to be relevant. About the same age when they shuttled up and down, as well. Adams sucked and the Twins need an arm. I'd rather see Romero, but Littell can do his thing and shuttle down again...
  16. Nobody should be untouchable, esp. left hand hitting and throwing OFs. Kirilloff's value might be as high as it will ever be and might be replaceable with Larnach, Rooker, and Blackenship squeezing him as an OF and with Kepler signing his extension and Lewin Diaz (finally) having a break through season at 1B. Don't look, but his OPS is under .666 in AA. Ditto Lewis. Got to sell high, esp. in a year when you have a chance to go all the way. But you got to do it in a smart way and go after controllable talent on the rise, like Caleb Smith of the Marlins. I'd trade Kirilloff for him any time.
  17. Kepler gets consecutive looks from Polanco, Sano, and Astudillo. Wonder if he was talking in German. That would make people turn his heads trying to figure out what the hey is going on. Over reaction.
  18. 25 year old Cody Stashak's numbers at AA: 2.05 ERA, 0.727 WHIP, 14.3 K/9, 0.8 BB/9. He should replace Mr Adams tomorrow, however I think that this 28 year old teammate of his is next in line (ignore the inaccuracies in that write up.) Also, I will really be surprised if Kimbrel is not a Twin in 2 weeks and a day or two (after the draft.) Trevor May is clearly my biggest disappointment in the pen this season. I thought that he broke though last season. They also need an ace to be relevant during the post-season, but that will have to come in a trade.
  19. The one thing that is different about Polanco's defense: No airmailed throws at first base. The solution was a simple one: Polanco has always been throwing somewhat sidearmish. Molitor & Co were pushing him to stop doing it. Baldelli allowed him to return to his natural motion and it is working. As far as the rest go, glad that people are starting to see Polanco's potential (and this comes from the only person who had him ranked ahead of Buxton in his Twins' prospect list...)
  20. Arraez. Career MiLB games: 2B: 241 3B: 38 (15 in 2019) SS: 24 (5 in 2019) LF: 9 (1 in 2019) Nope. He should not consider him an option at SS, other than in a blow out game, or in a late September game that does not matter, or in case of emergency.
  21. Absolutely! Gonzalves too. They can be good pieces towards a top of the rotation / back of the bullpen arm.
  22. Arraez is the Twins' second baseman of the future. He needs to play every day. This year the Twins' second baseman is Schoop. The future is likely next year for Arraez. AAA and if needed recalled. Depending on how things go and if it makes sense to have him in the post-season roster, recall him in time for that.
