  1. Maybe, but looking at Rochester along with 80% turnover will not help you answer this question. Here is runs per game data for both AAA leagues as a whole: AAA International League 2019: 5.22 Runs per game 2018: 4.16 R/G 2017: 4.27 R/G Pacific Coast League 2019: 5.67 R/G 2018: 4.97 R/G 2017: 5.05 R/G So one can say that the ball might be juiced but still is too few points. More data. AA Data: AA Southern League 2019: 3.77 R/G 2018: 4.29 R/G 2017: 3.95 R/G Eastern League 2019: 4.03 R/G 2018: 4.42 R/G 2017: 4.32 R/G Texas League 2019: 4.88 R/G 2018: 4.59 R/G 2017: 4.35 R/G All over the place, which is what it supposed to be if random, but both Eastern and Southern leagues seem weaker this season. If most AA players from last season moved to AAA, the difference in R/G might be due to better hitters/worse pitchers or other things, like the weather Too small sample size, in other words.
  2. This presumes that: Lewis will stick at SS and/or his fielding will be better than Polanco's (a soon to be All Star Shortstop.) Not sure that either of this will happen. He is 19, never played above A ball, and he is currently having a .630 OPS at Fort Myers. He is better than that but got plenty to prove yet.
  3. Minus the "y": ah-RAH-ehz
  4. Arraez "cannot hit lefthanders" is an urban legend. Career against LHP (indicating PAs and the level of competition.) 2019: .318/.348/.364 46 PA (AAA and AA) 2018: .279/.323/.369 103 PA (AA) 2017: .600/.600/.600 5 PA (A+) 2016: .333/.378/.422 112 PA (A) 2015: .302/.375/.395 48 PA (GCL) 2014: .316/.480/.368 25 PA (DSL) Of, course his batting average against RHP is about 30-40 points better, but I'd take a career .310 or so batting average against LHPs any time of the day. He can hit. Period. Lefties and righties.
  5. Arraez is the Twins' second baseman of the future (and the future might start at 2020) so he needs to play mostly every day. The Twins did not recall him to sit him. He will likely rotate with Schoop between second and DH. With Garver out now, Astudillo is a catcher, so the Twins have positional flexibility between Gonzalez and Adrianza mostly.
  6. I appreciate the decisiveness of this front office to cut the cord early enough when there is no hope.
  7. In that setting, the problem with Hildenberger is easy to conceive: All the balls he is flinging with careless disregard with his big wet noodle, are coming back the opposite direction in anything but a placid , tranquil way...
  8. Not waiver wire, but I suspect that the Oakland A's would not mind to part with Yusmeiro Petit for Trevor HIldenberger 1:1...
  9. I will be surprised if Hildenberger's spot is not take by either Thorpe or Littell...
  10. Pat Neshek did not have an 87 mph fastball like Hildenberger does... He could hit 93-94 before his injury and 91-93 after.
  11. Apparently 14 K in 41 PA is 34% not 50
  12. I might be mad if on June 6th Kimbrel is not a Twin, having signed an one year contract some place else...
  13. If you sub "Pressly" with "Duffey", you might end up with the same conclusion, unless you saw Pressly blossom with pitching coaches other than the ones Duffey got his "chances" with. And some of those "chances" were as an ill-placed starter. The last 2 spots in the pen should be rotating among players who have the hottest arms now. And I'd argue that Duffey is hotter than Hildenberger, so he should replace him. If he cools off and someone else is better, replace him. This team is a contender. Cannot afford to carry people who are hurting it, esp. if they have options.
  14. Yes indeed. He is about 6'2", throws underhanded, has an 87 mph fastball and cost the Twins 2 games in 2 days.
  15. Since when a 5.68 ERA and a 1.74 WHIP is "pretty damn good"? Maybe for the other teams...
  16. To sequestrate a GoT analogy, this is a Multi-faced Team, and it is a great thing. Also, a very interesting thing is that none from the players mentioned (other than Cruz, but he is at his sunset years as a player) is comfortable enough speaking to be the mouth of the team, so, refreshingly, after the passing of Dozier, and Perkins, and Cuddyer, the Twins seem to not have one of those as well (and this is also a good thing.) All bets are off when Sano returns, because he has the potential of being both...
  17. Here is the killer: Castro is hitting .244/.380/.585, .965 OPS, 155 OPS+ . He should bring at least an arm (and maybe a leg) sooner than later, and the Twins can have Astudillo as the back up...
  18. I think that the Twins want to have a monopoly on Left hand hitting and throwing outfielders...
  19. How about this stat comparison for fun: Twins' production from the Catcher spot, 2019: .336/.412/.735, 1.147 OPS, 179 OPS+ J.T. Realmuto, 2019: .280/.338/.432; .771 OPS, 102 OPS+
  20. I just don't see Adrianza going anywhere. Last night with Castro out, Garver getting a bat on the neck, and Cron being the emergency catcher convinced me. I don't want to see Schoop or esp. Gonzalez at SS even for a game. Cave will be optioned when Sano/Astudillo is up with Gonzalez playing some OF LF if needed. When the second of the Astudillo/Sano duo is up a pitcher (the worst performing reliever) will go.
  21. The Twins are at 11.6% HR/FB. The accepted regression point is at 10% or so. This means that the Twins are allowing more home runs per flying ball than that golden average. The problem is that they are 26th in the league. Baltimore leads with 19.2%. The weather has been funky and might be an issue, but there are way more HRs hit per flying ball already than in an average season.
  22. Started a rehab assignment today formally I think, so he has until about 6/6 to make it or be cut.
  23. Glad to see that this unfortunate experiment went out with Molitor and his pitching coaches and the Twins are focusing on their starters pitching longer in games and actually wining...
