    A. Ervin Santana has not a "great" career. He was never ever close to a Cy Young award, He has been an average number 3 pitcher in a good team. (Great for him, he made $) B. Comparing him to Maddux, especially after he has been lit by AAAA players this season, kinda, really, surely, absolutely, does not work. C. And he is yet another year removed from PEDs

    Indeed. And my take last off-season was that the Twins FO will suck if they do not sell high on Santana and Dozier. (and they did not) Albeit, Santana sucked in the post season in 2017, and he had a (pretty much) under the table surgery that would (allegedly) delay him till late April. ahem Whether the middle finger or not, Santana has lost about 5-6 mph in all of his pitches, and he really needs the Phil Hughes treatment. The Twins will be better server with Romero/Gonsalves/Littell/your-favorite-minor-leaguer (or Pindeda ) taking his starts for the rest of the season. He sucks.

    Results? 2016 Kepler: .235/.309/.424 2017 Kepler: .243/.312/.425 2018 Kepler: .234/.325/.421 If anything he has developed slightly better plate discipline that is been shown by the slight increase in isoD, as expected by a player getting closer to his prime. Here is the kicker: Kepler BABIP: 2016: .261, 2017: .276, 2018: .252 Which means that exit velocity and launch angle actually decreased his effectiveness to hit the ball...

    Austin is out of options. Ramirez is 2 years removed from being a league average player and he is Mauer's age. I have no issue if they sign him to a minor league contract with a ST invitation to see if he can get his act together and compete for 2 spots with Rooker and Austin... The Red Sox could not flip him this season...

    I definitely get the point of the article that some of the secondary prospects the Twins received in the recent trades might produce more than it might look at this stage of their careers. Totally get that, and I hope that's the case. That said, Dozier, Escobar, and esp. Pressly, are far away from being characterized as "stars". If someone were to open a box of 2018 baseball cards, despite that one singe All Star season among them, all of their cards will go to the common and not the star pile. Very useful players, esp. the infielders, but no stars. The two younger ones have the time to become stars maybe, but chances are slim. Is Eduardo Nunez a star?

    I think that different players develop at different rates. Sometimes a player gets stuck and needs to work on something, no matter how good he has been on everything else. The other consideration here is position and opportunity at the MLB level in that position. Is Lewis a SS or a CF? Will there be openings at those positions at the MLB level? The last thing the Twins want to do is to hurry yet another top prospect. I'd say opening day 2021 is about when I expect to see Lewis, pending injuries/issues etc or surprises (like the Twins win it all in 2020)

    Un not quite. Santana was an Ace. Berrios is the Twins best pitcher right now. Bit different. Calling him an Ace is almost as back when DickNBert called Scott Diamond that...

    When was the last time the Twins traded 5 players at the deadline before this season? The answer is never. Never say never.

    Austin has a career 268 PAs and 96 OPS+ (a hair below league average.) If he is a "failed prospect" after 268 PAs, what was Torri Hunter with a 71 OPS+ after his first 440 career PAs? Not to mention certain other current Twins? Matter of fact Joe Mauer has 100 OPS+ this season and Austin 98. I guess that the people who are calling for Mauer to return, based on his and Austin's performance, should be more than happy to have a replacement with about the same performance...

    FWIW, the Twins' 40-man roster is at 39, with plenty of dead weight (Wilson, Belisle, Astrudillo etc) and hopefully a few more coming off in trades today to worry about De Jong taking a spot.

    So far this Front Office has done a nice job getting something for the players who will be free agents this off-season. Santana, Rodney, and Dozier should hopefully follow today. At the end $10M + the 2018 second round pick + lost opportunity in 2018 might weigh more that what Tyler Austin and Luis Rijo will bring to the Twins, however this Front Office has proven that it can take a calculated chance and if it does not work out, cut its losses, which is a breathe of fresh air for the Twins, and about all one can ask from the Front Office.

    Not quite. You just got to get the team in a position to be better than the Astros and the Yankees and the Red Sox and the Indians next season. And to do that the Twins need: a. 2 SPs better than Berrio, b. 2 RPs better than Rodney, plus c. at least one RH power bat and better 2. Plenty of time to shed the bottom of the rotation and middle of the bullpen pieces, and the upcoming free agents, load with prospects and go get what you need this off-season. That's planning and targeted asset divestiture and acquisition. Not curling in the fetal position. The TR years is a proof that half-assing it an living on a prayer never works. Enough with that.

    Cool. He definitely is the throw in as far as this trade is concerned. Numbers or not. Remember Max Murphy and the insane line he put for a year? That's who this guy reminds me of. Murphy is playing for the Saints now btw...

    Bit of perspective: De La Trinidad was the Diamondback's 19th round draft pick last year (2017). The Twins 1/1 overall pick of that draft just made it to Fort Myers. Colton Burns, same age, also a LHH OF, who was drafted in the 18th round of 2017 by the Twins is at E-town (and not doing too hot...)

    MLB Pipeline now has Gabriel Maciel as 15th in the Twins' system now and Jhoan Duran 20th. Duran has a plus plus fastball and an above average slider/curve, and toying with a change. As a starter he hit 98 in game situations. I see him as a future closer, if his breaking ball kicks up one notch. And the future for him could be as close as 2020. Now lets go sign Esco back this off-season as a FA for a super ulitity role to a 2-3 year contract.
