  1. Excellent. Aug 1 line up 1B Kirilloff 2B Julien 3B Lewis SS Correa RF Wallner CF Taylor LF Buxton C Jeffers DH Polanco/Larnach I have confidence Buxton will hit if we give him a position and wait for it. Correa will hit. Let the youth play everyday. Not trading Gray because we can still win this division, perhaps easily - and then you give yourself a chance. Ryan, Gray and Lopez are a starting 3 that can go places in the playoffs. Not giving up here, but let the kids play everyday.
  2. I do feel bad for Lopez. Not his fault he was traded for Rod Carew. I think I've heard Bremer tell me 6 or 7 times the last 2 days that we've struck out 200 more times this year than the Red Sox. Shut up Dick. We get it.
  3. This squad is a hot mess right now. Probably a bad time to comment here. 30th in contact rate. 30th in most every offensive category. We must start deep in the minors and up in the front office and ask, who is coaching and teaching our hitting philosophy? What is our hitting philosophy? Is it 2019? How long w/Buxton as DH only? Can we play him in RF? Strictly DH is hard for some. Obviously Byron needs to head out onto the field in order to hit? Is Rowson still in Miami? Did he steal Arraez? So far he did. I was always in agreement with Rod, and hindsight, our ugly friend says we should have given Arraez 2B last year and rolled with it. Polanco has been done for a year 1/2 apparently. I've always asked myself, why did they trade Arraez at the peak of the peak in value? We've NEVER done this before? Run down the list. When they were at the peak, no trade. Sano, Kepler, Polanco, Buxton and on and on. When did we ever trade someone at the peak of his value? I can't think of anyone, Viola maybe?
  4. Good take here. Hindsight is easy, but with that in mind I have 3 comments. This was our 1st game in a stretch of 8 in a row. Gray had the lead, and had another 20-30 pitches left to 100. Gray is a veteran and is currently having above average success. For those 3 reasons he gets to start the 5th in my book. I agree Rocco seems to be a great clubhouse manager. I wish the games were played in the clubhouse. During the games I find myself questioning his decisions often. Either he is not allowed to utilize instincts, or he doesn't have good ones, or his instincts are whatever the analytics say.
  5. I'm still a little sore about trading Arraez. He had a bat and a heart, and the only place we could have given him was 2B.
  6. I would imagine trade discussions are happening. Someone (Giants) will buy low on Kepler, and a change of scenery might turn him around for someone else. No turning him around here it looks like.
  7. Interesting Rocco did that just 2 days after he said he would never call out a player in public in a post game interview. Rocco is the one feeling the heat here in my opinion - it is also my opinion that Rocco was right, and it is my opinion that we should give Wallner RF. The Kepler situation is different, but similar to the Polanco situation. 2 core long time members of this team that pre-date Falvey and Rocco, that they stuck with, they traded away Arraez rather than give him 2B - and now in hindsight, what a mess. Neither has helped us much since 2019 when they both rocked it big.
  8. How long is Rocco's leash? I'd say losing Arraez was another blow to the "heart issue". Both Kepler and Polanco's absence from effectiveness is a blow to the heart. Buxton not being in the field hurts the heart. I am in total agreement, this team's struggles so far this year revolve around culture, attitude and heart. How much would it cost right now to swing a deal with the Padres for Nelson? Bag of balls. Make him our hitting coach immediately. When Buxton is off the DL, put him in CF. Obviously he can get hurt playing only DH - what's the point? We need his energy on the field, and he obviously hits better when he plays in the field. We have way too much talent this year to be a .500 ballclub. This front office gave this coaching staff a great 26 man roster this year. They need to coach better.
  9. We have the very best pitching staff I can remember and we can't hit. I want to score some runs. I am with Rod Carew and am saddened we couldn't find a position for Arraez and didn't keep him. I also felt like Steer could have given us some pop. He, to me is Dozier like, scrappy guy w/power. I understand grading trades after the fact is easy, but was never a Mahle fan. I do agree with your comments and love Jorge - he just hasn't (for all reasons you mentioned) given us anything for 3 years.
  10. For whatever reason (Jorge Polanco) the front office would NOT give Arraez an everyday position, and by default planted him at 1B. Then we give Cincy Steer, again because of our unwillingness to move on from Polanco. For whatever reason this front office is determined to "save" 2B for Jorge as they are RF for Kepler, and neither one has come close to repeating 2019 - and both were/are blocking better players and/or prospects. I am not down on the Correa signing, and rather like having 3 world series champions on our roster along w/Vazquez and Gallo. Correa will be fine in my opinion and will prove his value in Sept/Oct.
  11. Excellent thoughts here. Falvey sort of made a similar move to this in acquiring Gray for Petty. How did that work out? Is Chase Petty going to become a star for Cincy? I haven't followed his progress? I am sure following the Mahle for Steer trade and do NOT like that one obviously in hindsight. I agree with above posters on not getting cute and taking whichever top 5 guy is on the board. Then do a Petty for Gray type move in the off-season if that is the decision. Either way this pick won't help us this year. Take the best player please.
  12. Exactly on point! AK will force it, and Falvey won't want to wait too long. Been waiting on AK long enough. Lewis will have much more time, but if he is killing it in his first 3 weeks back playing for St Paul, he'll force it as well. I would expect Buxton back in CF by July, opening up a rotating DH, with Lewis possibly a better defender at 3B than Miranda. Miranda is a great candidate for mostly DH the 2nd half of the year, with Taylor on the bench in my opinion. AK displaces Kepler at some point?
  13. They aren't going to platoon Kirilloff. They want him playing everyday. This front office isn't going to give anyone else CF but Taylor, until Buxton, or until Lewis. Best chance for Alex is displacing Larnach, or if Kepler or Gallo get put back on the IL. No room in the starting 9. Good problem to have I think. Wallner is also coming fast. Obviously this is why all the trade Kepler rumors over the winter. Now here we are.
  14. Agreed but where does he play? Castro is a bench player. Kirilloff is not. As of today Larnach is leading the team in RBI's and has leftfield. Gallo looks like a comeback player of the year candidate and has 1B. Can't bring Alex back until you have a starting spot for him.
  15. Toss up? We've actually been waiting longer for Kirilloff than Larnach. I don't honestly think any of us can tell the difference. #1 pick in '16, #1 pick in '18. Still waiting on both, and neither have separated themselves from the other. Why an automatic put him in RF for Kirilloff, and why a send him down for Larnach?
  16. Caleb is just a wonderful story. He is a Minnesota kid. No one has worked harder on himself and his game. So far this spring he looks better than ever. We have no chance at a title without a shutdown bullpen. Caleb will be a key component at the back end for us in my opinion.
  17. Hey Ted, Will there be any surprise candidates making the bullpen for opening day we don't know about? How does Alcala look? Not impressed with Solano, where do you see him fitting in? Thanks for a great report!
  18. I'll be interested in the starter strategy, and if Rocco does indeed protect these guys like last year. Quite taboo to let anyone get near 100 pitches, especially early in the season last year. I am hoping for such starter depth that we see Maeda and Balazovic in the pen, with SWR coming fast, and big young guys like Ryan/Ober & Lopez stepping into 35 start/200 innings roles.
  19. Agree w/both of your comments, and recall the 2015 Royals. 3 lockdown bullpen guys took them to a title. The 2015 Royals were nearly untouchable after the 6th. We have the makings of a very solid starting staff this year as it stands. How many more games do we win if we can lock it down nearly every game after the 6th?
  20. We'll see about Kirilloff's health. He is obviously our 1st option. I wonder about Miranda's defense, and still think he is the 1st baseman of the future when lee or lewis come up. If we are not trading Kep, it would make sense to look at Gallo at 1st. I was hoping Gordon would get a shot at left.
  21. Gallo has played a LOT of 1st base, and if Royce or Brooks are ready by mid season, look for Miranda to be moved to 1st. I'll miss Arraez bat, but we have several good options at 1st.
  22. 6 year deal to coincide with 6 years left on Buxton's deal. I am now convinced we are trying to win, and with CC locked up at that incredible AAV, we are committed to trying to win for 6 years. I'm looking for a big trade for pitching now to finish off this off-season. Locking up SS for 6 years will make one of our stud infield prospects available. Who does Miami want?
