  1. So I'm normally a couple of days behind on these but like to listen to them in order. Do you think I should listen to this one before the Correa episode via Patreon?
  2. I think this is a great move that I never expected. Story sure - he's a star as well but not at this level. WORST case scenario, we never get any good starts from our still TBD pitching rotation and we flip him for about half a dozen high prospects to a big market team, and by then hopefully Lewis or Martin have proven able to man SS. Very, very exciting time to be a Twins Fan!
  3. HOLY ****. For real???? What a great plan, and even if has opt outs to let us see if Lewis or Martin are our future at that position. This Front Office just earned HUGE credit from me and gained my trust going forward to be able to pull this off.
  4. Agreed - However with no shortstops on the roster (or a 5th starter) can we play him in 2 or 3 positions? Might need that to make the playoffs right now.
  5. Its not JUST about his ability to hit. Heck, take that out of the equation. If he's even an average SS hitter, he is also a solid defender in a position of need at an age that he could play out the entire contract (unlike Donaldson). He will make the team better and we can figure out what to do with Lewis and Martin when the time comes. Never balk at adding talent to a position of need.
  6. This kind of topic feels like bait to trigger people who simply don't like Buxton for whatever reason. I also think TwinsDaily subscribers are less likely to jump all over this topic with unfounded criticisms than if this were on a Facebook page. With that said however, while I don't have confidence he'll make 110 games - with the type of contract he signed, I think we're still getting GREAT value for our baseball dollars even if he only plays 90 games with the production he's been shown to provide. I'm hopeful he does make the 110 threshold, and I read that he's always working and trying new things to lower his risk of injury - hopefully he can be someone like Molitor who became a legend in the game despite frequent early career injuries.
  7. The possibility of getting Story here makes me even more excited for the season to start! Hope the news comes across soon! If we can't get FA pitchers here, at least we can do our best to get a lot of runs across the plate. As far as pitchers go, I wouldn't be surprised if we're done getting new starters. Gray, Ryan, Bundy, Dobnak, and 1 of our young guns could be what we end up with to start the year. Maeda may be playing in 22 as well. Still need some help in the pen, but that never seems hard to find. Don't know anything about Gio, but read on Yankee pages that they are pretty pissed they traded him and even saw posts about wanting the Yanks GM Cashman fired over it. If we signed Story, and if we bring up Miranda - I think Gio could be a great SS/3B sub who could possibly also play 2? Getting interesting!
  8. I see the signing has begun (Cards with a RHP).....much slower than I anticipated. I kind of thought teams would have been speaking to each other during the lockout -and we might already have a trade in place for a pitcher. Hopefully some talks took place over the past 99 days.
  9. The game changes. The referred statistic regarding the hit to strikeout ratio I would expect will swing back the other way eventually as banned substances are enforced more closely, and batters catch up to the changes pitchers make. The most important things to me in this next CBA are ensure the future of baseball is in good hands long term and promotion of parity where any team could win the pennant any given year - like the NFL.
  10. I'm afraid despite being a fan of his - for the best long term interest of the team - I gotta go with sell high and try to trade for pitching. Those knees aren't going to get any better and he could be out of the game in 5 years.
  11. Do we know if there will be at least minor league seasons yet?
  12. Money ruins a lot of things. Baseball is a good example of that. Why can't these rich people just be content being rich and not always needing more and more and more.
  13. Works for me - lets do it. The team would be better than it is today.
  14. I remember the triples; oddly I don't remember the errors. Thanks for the write up.
  15. Neither Robertson or Beckham sound like someone who is going to catapult us into a first round playoff victory - might as well let Gordon keep developing.
  16. I don't think the Twins undervalue him - he was our big free agent pitcher signing!
  17. Sign him - If Royce comes up and is ready and capable at SS, we have a good problem. Someone can be traded for pitching. Find a way to sign some talent - he would make our team better than it is today.
  18. If you look just at our history of NOT trading prospects for MLB talent - my guess is that we'd start the season with at least 1 rookie from our talented group of pitcher prospects, plus one retread like we did with Happ and Shoemaker last year.
  19. Michael Cuddyer. Good hitter, good guy - and played wherever the team tried him. 3rd - OK, 2nd - I guess so, 1st - sure - RF finally a home!
  20. Nope - can't agree with it. Moving to Polanco and putting Arraez at 2 weakens us in 2 positions.
  21. Money and greed ruin so many things - including baseball.
  22. I'm surprised Hunter isn't getting more consideration - those 9 gold gloves while patrolling the hardest position in the outfield were impressive.
  23. I would not extend him because I simply don't trust that he'll be able to be a viable player much into the future beyond his controllable years. (knees) He's a mediocre defender who can play multiple positions, and above average hitter with bad knees. I know people like him, but in the long term interest of the team I highly suggest selling high on him now while he can play in the field and not be only a DH due to his mobility limitations that will likely come into play if we were to extend him.
  24. I think it is for the good of the sport to limit contracts like Trout received. How does this type of money promote a competitive balance that will lead towards parity and future generations of baseball fans. This promotes the haves and the have nots, which over a long period of time may simply lead to less baseball teams, thus less fans and possibly down the road - the end of baseball.
  25. I may be alone here - but I'd like both a salary floor, and salary cap. If you want true parity where a team like the Pirates could compete for a title just as well as the Dodgers - I think this is the way to go. The NFL has a proven model that works where anyone can win a championship by properly managing their talent and budget. Pretty sure the players would hate it (limits on how much they can make) but until we have something like this a team like the Dodgers or Yankees will be in the race every single year, and small market teams will try and make a run a few years every decade. To keep fans interest there needs to be a chance their team can actually win it all someday.
