  1. When you hand the pitchers a 1 run lead in the 9th, nothing else matters. The pitchers were handed a free run, and it is virtually a 1 inning game, and you get to start the game ahead 1-0. The rest of the 8 innings played no longer matter. At all. In fact, as the home team, you don't even need your hitters anymore to win the game. Seems pretty clear to me.
  2. It matters not what the score is or how many runs a team has has scored..... if they are up by a run going into the 9th, that's all that matters. It is a 1 inning game and you are up 1-0.
  3. Maeda waited for his time on the Twins for his to go. We got lucky with Ervin Santana, though, at least with his partially torn UCL.
  4. Hey..... they got us Colome, Happ, Shoemaker, Robles, Rodney, Perez, De Jong, Belisle, Reed...... and got rid of Berrios, Taylor, and Pressly. They liked all the gets when they got them, just like now, and they got the gets for CHEAP(except the trades to get rid of the best we had were pretty costly)! Mostly coming off bad years (or two), but they were (some of them) good just before, and they were identified by the pitching experts to be prime for resurgence. With that past track record, no reason to not anticipate that the odds are now in our favor for success and the new gets will be ready to thrive, right? Batter up! None of the pitchers on our staff have gone many innings. If this team does get hot, and the pitchers succeed and don't get hurt, come August, they will all be at their inning limits for the season, supposedly. And the guys in the minors will to be, if they are pitching in AAA or AA in rotation. Gray has gone over 200 innings twice, but that was in 2014 and 2015, and last year he put in only 135.........
  5. This is so sneaky clever. Trade away your bullpen leader, your union leader, AND pay his salary for the other team! AND do it the day before your season starts! So clever. These guys want to win. Don't you all see it?
  6. I'm not so sure Rogers isn't damaged goods now anyway, and with the rehab path he chose, he will need surgery soon. I wish we could throw in a Yankee or 2.
  7. Paddock? I wish the FO would quit horsing around and get a stud.
  8. Kind of ironic that of the relief pitchers that made the team, the one with the worst spring is the article picture. The only reason you need to be flexible, is because you don't have the horses to pitch deep into the game. I'm glad that they have been practicing yoga, though. Flexibilty is a good thing, in general. I hope they get to play on Friday.
  9. I hope Polanco has a switch he can flip as the season starts. It's been a dreadful spring for him. This one was really bad with just 2 hits in 29 ABs. They were a homer and double though....
  10. Probably in Japan or Korea. He is getting "old".
  11. Miranda should. What does a young guy have to do? I do not like Yankees on this team. Not at all. Urshela over Miranda. Yuk.
  12. https://www.startribune.com/twins-pitchers-joe-ryan-bailey-ober-bullpen-sessions-breakdowns-spring-training/600161395/ I bet it is the only one he gets all year........
  13. First of all, an opening day start IS a big thing, both to the pitcher and from the perspective of tradition. It is not just any old start (is a start). There is no "staff ace". It is time to stop pretending there is, or has to be one if there isn't, until someone earns it. I am glad that Ryan gets the start. Why not? Anyone that can get a plate umpire (Olympics) to give him a high five after a breif conversation at the end of an inning ...... gets my respect.
  14. According to actions (which are more important than words) by our FO (ex: Berrios, Pressly), we will only have Gray for 3 months, until the trading deadline - because his contract is up at the end of the next year, and he has to be traded because that will bring the best prospect value. It apparently is not important how the only team that matters is affected, the MLB Twins, it is only important to stockpile redundant players in the minors for the future (that never seems to come). They don't say this, they just do it.
  15. you know you really miss him...... ? https://www.mlb.com/rockies/video/bud-black-discusses-alex-colome?t=spring-training
  16. Absolutely. They blew it. This is what we have. I don't mind if the yankee visitors flame out too. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride when it comes to pitching. If we have a good one.... then they get rid of him. Even if our bats (which recently weren't rated that great compared to the other teams..... https://www.mlb.com/news/teams-with-best-lineups-in-2022?partnerId=zh-20220328-570896-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20220328-570896-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=cdS1sErUAwyyoJTxwdz6C3f55NjhaPvLCdJ8smhEVxgoRo7JZe74VVRz0Lc6np6Y&bt_ts=1648475031986 ....... and didn't make the top 10 even..... score enough runs to get us into the playoffs, it sets us up to continue the record losing streak in the playoffs.
  17. Right, Rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery usually takes about a year, and basically starts the day after surgery. In some cases, up to 2 years are needed for athletes to return to their previous level of ability (hence the "rehabbing" in quotes). In Maeda's case, he will be 12 months September 1, and I read his hoped estimated return is 9/15/2022. He hopes to get some time on the mound this year, but that is really iffy, and would only happen if absolutely no setbacks, which are common. I don't expect Maeda to be close to his 2020 career best performance (in all of 11 regular season games/66.2 innings, and 1 playoff start) all of 2023, if ever. Maybe you do. I expect something, in the first year back, returning to their previous level of ability before the injury, like the mediocre 2021 that he did pitch - 4.66 ERA in 21 starts (Granted, part of that was during the onset of his injury - unclear how much or how long). It usually takes that year to get it back, and 2020 could very well be the best he will ever see, as he will be 35 April 11, 2023, and just past 18 months since surgery. It will be 2 years from surgery on September 1, 2023, with one month left on his contract. And unless the Twins sign a new 1 year contract, they are trading the players that they already have with 1 1/2 years to 3 months left on their contract (Pressly, Berrios, Escobar, etc.......) whenever they possibly can. No holding on until free agency, like the Braves with Freddy, or the Dodgers with Seeger, etc.
  18. 2 months of Maeda was very good. The next full year, he was not good and missed most of the year as well. Year 3, this year, he will not play, unless barely at the end of the year and have no arm strength to be a workhorse. Next year he will be "rehabbing" in a post surgery year. End of contract. Graterol will probably end up being the closer for the Dodgers this year. We will see what happens. I see 2 good months in a 4 year contract. I don't know how we get an edge for 2 months.
  19. The Twins, including the current front office, other than Duran, don't trade for velocity. (Mid 90's is not really velocity anymore..... high 90's and above is, and even Rogers doesn't really fit the bill there, either, and who knows how long his rested injured finger lasts......), and they don't sign velocity, either. If they draft it, they trade it. (Petty, Graterol, Gil, Ynoa for example as stated in article). I look for Duran to be traded when he proves he is healthy, if this tact continues. I found this article interesting, today. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/03/reds-top-prospect-hunter-greene-opening-day-rotation.html Hunter Greene, who we passed on to get Lewis, even with TJ surgery, will beat Lewis to The Show. We always need pitching, but never even draft the upper tier of prospects when we have the position to do so.
  20. Catching is still a mess. I would rather see Miranda now. Get rid of the damn Yankees. Never wanted them anyway. Yankees and cheaters. Just look the other way..........
  21. When your MO is to wait and be flexible and see what happens, very rarely an agent comes to you with a premade opportunity like Correa, but mostly, you are left with the bottom of the barrel and have to settle for pitching like an old Archer (or a Bundy, regardless of age), that is a hope and a prayer to perform even average, again. I hope the prayers work.
  22. Time to get ready for the season. These guys are not part of the start of the season. Sano (DH) and Sanchez (C) were placed at 4 and 5 in the order today against the Braves. 3 ABs each ....... 0-6, 5 strikeouts. It appears they need the work.
  23. Totally disagree. I hate the bogus arguing. It has always just looked stupid to me, and a waste of time. I feel the robo ball/strike is the most important rule change, for many reasons previously stated over and over (not on this thread). Ghost wins, ghost runners, and base size I hate. Pitch clock I support. Limited throws to fist will not last. I also like two fielders on each side of second.
