  1. The arm and accuracy that Robinson has shown is nowhere close to Ben Revere lite. One doesn't have to be a Robinson lover to have noticed that and give him his dues. Robinson has great routes to the ball, which Schafer does not, and neither did Ben. Ben consistently hits for a much higher average, and his arm is a noodle. What examples to you have that Robinson is anything like Ben Revere? I am not advocating for Robinson to be kept longer than needed, but I say Schafer is the first to be replaced, then Robinson. Both should be gone as Hicks, Buxton, and Rosario are brought up to stay.
  2. The sooner we get Hicks up here for Hunter to mentor him now, the better. A month of mentorship has already been wasted. Hopefully, Buxton by July. Time waits for no one.
  3. Any particular reason that Hicks was not in the lineup today? Great to see Burdi having a good outing for a change.
  4. Absolutely. Get Hicks up here. The past is the past and now is now. For now, keep Robinson and designate Schafer. He has been hot the last seven before today though..... hitting over .400. After today, .313 in only 16 ABs, but that still counts. And to be fair, only one Twin didn't look over matched today at the plate. But I like Robinson's routes and arm and accuracy more than Schafer until his time is up. And with all that speed, Schafer can't even seem to buy a stolen base this year. Here's to an outfield with Buxton and Hicks and ?/?/? sooner than never.
  5. Great article on the Plouffe progression. Pretty amazing what he has done on particularly the low and away corner and the middle away sector, too. Now if he can just learn to hit those middle of the plate meatballs again............ lookout! Why are some of the squares 1-4 or 0-2 or 0-1, etc., and not .250, .000, and .000? Is there a minimum at bats to use an average? Is .000 0-at least the minumum?
  6. That's the Nelson Cruz. Part of the Biogenesis scandal.
  7. I second that and third it and fourth that. Do you think a 4 yrs/$57M contract for 2015-18 (just about Nolasco and Santana money) would have been tradeable after another 40 homers and 100 RBI this year to make room for some prospects? I do.
  8. Now that is depressing. I guess gone means you now couldn't trade a 25 yr old Meyer, one for one, for a fine 28 yr old MLB center fielder in his prime years that leads off and has an OBP always above .350 and hits around .300? A Meyer that is now so close the the show (some would even say ready a year ago... like Middlebrooks), and just coming out of a season with a 3.52 ERA in 130.1 innings with 64 walks and leading the AAA International League in K's with 153...... but you could trade for that kind of value, and just one for one, when Meyer was even more of a risk at just 22 and had never even played in AA ball and had just finished a split level A ball season with an ERA of 2.86 in 129 innings with 45 walks and only (only?) 139 K's? How could anybody possibly make that trade then? Can all that amazing trade value really be gone? Is a catcher that is just a few years away from having to play first base that much more valuable than one of the top center fielder's in the show in his prime? I miss Wilson Ramos, too.
  9. "On the flip side, Schafer has been anything but. Looking overmatched in the outfield, his .189/.218/.226 line does Minnesota no favors at the plate either. While his speed is valuable, he has been unable to use it struggling to get on base. With just two steals through the first month, it's time Minnesota moves on from Schafer and puts Hicks back in his role. This time however, the big league club should expect it to be different." Schafer has zero steals this year so far, and was caught stealing yet again on Monday night, for 0/3 now for the year. In spring training, he was only succesful in 3 of 6 attempts as well. All that speed and he can't buy a steal so far. He is getting worse at stealing. He did, however have a good night at the plate for a change and made a great diving catch to save a run in the eighth, but he usually looks lost in the outfield with terrible routes to the ball. That inside the park homer the other night was because he just can't seem to gauge where the ball is going.
  10. Great entry by Gleeman on this. It really reinforced my opinion on the matter and that it is a real head-scratcher. http://aarongleeman.com/2015/05/05/twins-bypass-aaron-hicks-for-eddie-rosario-to-replace-oswaldo-arcia/
  11. The Rosario over Hicks choice really surprises me. I am not looking forward to Rosario's OBP in the lineup right now. This seems personal to me. The people making choices must like Hicks at all anymore. Replacing Schafer with Hicks immediately if not sooner would be a welcome move. Why stop now? It is May. Let's make some changes to this team that is currently tied with Baltimore and Tampa for the final Wild Card birth......... (I haven't been able to say that for a long time. Gotta get it in while I can.... this may be the only day of the season I can say that!)
  12. Wow. Sounds like they should just trade Hicks, now. Rosario over Hicks at this point really surprises me. Any promotion of the new wave I have to support, but they must not like Hicks at all. Seems personal at this point. Rosario's OBP is not very encouraging, and I am not looking forward to that in the lineup right now. Hip irritation for Arcia? I haven't seen any real reports on what is wrong with him. I guess still not.
  13. I sure hope this doesn't become a catch phrase, and this is the last time I see it. The "-ie" thing is sooooooooo in the past, hopefully.
  14. Personally, I cringe every time I see Escobar and his buck whatever average in the lineup right now, and especially in left field. That statement I could agree with last year, but it is now May of this year, and there may be a problem, and I can't agree it is true now. He had a nice spring training, though.
  15. Why can't I get excited that the starting pitcher of the month is pitching in low A?
  16. So..... offical scoring types (and perhaps umpire types), if anyone takes the time to look at the recap/summary of the top of the 8th in Rochester, I would be interested if you have a clarification on the scoring. Meyer entered the eighth with only 2 walks given up and one run (which was earned). Meyer got credited with both (earned) runs that Theilbar let in after he relieved Meyer, after Meyer had walked the first two batters and was pulled. From a scoring standpoint, charging Meyer with both of the runs doesn't make sense to me. One run does, but not both. Parmelee, the second of the walks, was taken out on a fielders choice, and Meyer got the (earned) run tagged on him that was scored by a batter Theilbar pitched to! Is it the feilder's choice that makes that second run Meyer's responsibility? Seems odd to me. That must be it, but I don't like it. That is an assumption. But scoring doesn't allow an assumption of the double play. This is then an assumption that the fielder(s) would have made the play at first. To be responsible for a batter you don't even pitch to.......... I don't like it.
  17. He still might. He certainly can be more than many #1's still. What do you think about Plouffe? It took a long time, but do you think he has now reached the ceiling the Twins drafted him for? Or the floor, or minimum they had hoped for? Even if a #1 pick reaches the minimum or floor, it can be quite beneficial. I would love to seem him up, and while he is hot, and plugged right in.
  18. I truly am not fond of Ervin Santana being described as "a No. 2 starter". If that is the standard for a No. 2 in this organization, the Twins will continue to be in trouble. I can get exited and hopeful about May, Meyer, and Berrios, but signings like Santana and Nolasco always leave me scratching my head before I bang it against the wall. With Arcia limping out of the box down to first base, today, and then pulled from the game, Hicks may be the first of the wave to come this year.
  19. I like Santana at short still. I hate the errors, but I like giving him an extended opportunity. I mean, it is not like he is even the biggest problem to worry about on this team. Do folks really feel that they can "see" things better when they are at the game viewing from the stands than on the close ups and slow motion of TV coverage? I certainly can't, even if I am on the rail at field level. It is nice to hear that Florimon is learning to hit some in AAA. At 28, I would hope so. I see Pittsburgh is so impressed that he is not on the Pirates, but hanging around for replacement duty if needed.
  20. Didn't Pinto get hit in the head with a bat on a swing again since he has been in Rochester?
  21. Does that include yesterdays 10 hits in 5.2 innings? For a change, Theilbar came in and didn't hurt Mays line more as he left with the bases loaded, and Theilbar didn't let any of the inherited runners score and got the out.
  22. Span finally got hot in the first 40 games (156 at bats, .340 BA, .434 OBP) of 2008 in Triple A, and forced his way to the show to replace Gomez at the top of the order. Hicks looks like he is finally doing that now at Rochester. He is up to .310 now, in his last 10 games is hitting .405, and he has an eleven game hitting streak. Vargas needs to play some AAA ball, that he never has. A designated hitter has to hit.
  23. You took the words right out of my mouth as I read the line on Martinez and Thomas, and I am sure there are more players that could be dug up for each case, if one worked on it hard enough. More than anything, I was asserting my right to have an opinion on what I find interesting, and not being told that it isn't. While it is not unusual for players to have rust (how about the Twins' experience with Kendrys Morales last year), I really didn't expect rust from these two. Sano was even wanting to comeback at the end of last year, and Buxton is such a "hard worker"........ they both are it is reported...... that I figured they would be prepared and ready to get on with it, at least at levels like Thomas and Martinez, in relation to how they had previously performed and subsequently performed. Rust resistant is not the same as rust proof, and I would say the cases presented (especially Martinez and Thomas) support my statement that was said off the cuff with no research. Harvey... the original example, has been better, too, but is still better than most in his first month back and after a spring training. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/matt-harvey-ends-spring-training-scoreless-innings-article-1.2171245 Buxton seems to be coming around, and Sano had a better day yesterday. That is what we all hope for anyway.
  24. It became pretty obvious that baseball didn't want Barry around anymore at the end, as no one would sign him and let him play on their team. I guess he needs to be in the book, but circumstances should be duly noted. I would read both takes. It is part of baseball history, albeit a sordid part, and Bonds was not alone, but his achievements are tainted with malicious hooliganism, and the records he holds are skewed.
