  1. I can't judge what Santana's performance is likely to be by his results in the rehab starts. Pawtucket has Rusney Castillo (solo homer) and Shane Victorino (double) at the top of the order, and Allen Craig later. Plus, these are rehab starts, and the most important thing is to stretch it out and gain arm strength, and to work on his pitchers - like a second spring training for him. Results (which haven't been too bad) in the rehab starts are not as important as getting the work in he needs to to be ready to help the Twins upon his activation. I don't expect him to be much more than another fairly good starter, though, because that is all he has ever been.
  2. Watching Carson Fulmer in the CWS, I really wonder if this will be the right choice. It is the choice, though, and time will tell. The Twins will see first hand as Fulmer was taken by the White Sox two picks later at #8. Jay is a lefty. The Twins need a starting lefty. Was Jay the best player available at the time? I don't buy that he was, so the pick sings more of need than best available. History is not kind with similar attempts to change a college reliever into a starter, but Jay is our man now, and here's to much success.
  3. Just keep him and see what happens. The system is redundant now for the next several years.
  4. If I am being the judge....... no way he was following the pitch. He was trying to align his elbow pad with the ball, and did a great job of it. People may say this is never called. That makes it OK. If there is a rule, and it is never called, then change the rule. If there is a rule, and you don't call it, then an umpire is making rules up. Anytime, Any game. If College umpires can get it right, so can MLB umpires. I have no respect for Tabata for his behavior, but the Plate Umpire and the whole team need to get it right, and enforce the written rule.
  5. It was a total lean in that the umpire, by rule, should not have allowed, too. The game was robbed of a perfect game, not only by a cowardly batter (Jose Tabata of the Pirates) totally lowering his elbow to get hit on his elbow pad, but by an umpiring team that didn't get it right, by rule of the game. Meanwhile, in the College World Series, twice so far a batter didn't move - far less of an infraction of moving into the ball to be hit - and the umpire did not allow the batter to take the base. Good for them. That is the rule, and this one was obvious. Say what you want about the traditions of baseball, Scherzer and baseball was robbed today. http://m.mlb.com/video/v182371383/pitwsh-tabata-hit-by-pitch-breaks-up-perfect-game/?affiliateId=clubMEGAMENU
  6. I don't know if it is the case, but if Santana is hitting balls close to the zone for hits, I hope that is acceptable. Of course it is important for him to get a better plan, but I hate seeing the talent to hit close pitches out of the zone for base hits instead of called strikes by bad umpires being extinguished.
  7. If this gets overused, it will stop working!
  8. Inherited runners-scored: Burdi 2-2, Reed 3-3 Jacksonville Top of the 7th Matt Juengel singles on a ground ball to left fielder Adam Walker II. Viosergy Rosa flies out to center fielder Niko Goodrum. David Adams singles on a line drive to right fielder Travis Harrison. Matt Juengel to 2nd. Pitching Change: Nick Burdi replaces Brett Lee. Terrence Dayleg doubles (7) on a fly ball to left fielder Adam Walker II. Matt Juengel scores. David Adams scores. Chadd Krist singles on a ground ball to third baseman Miguel Sano. Terrence Dayleg scores. Kenny Wilson walks. Chadd Krist to 2nd. Carlos Lopez singles on a line drive to right fielder Travis Harrison. Chadd Krist to 3rd. Kenny Wilson to 2nd. Austin Nola walks. Chadd Krist scores. Kenny Wilson to 3rd. Carlos Lopez to 2nd. Pitching Change: Jake Reed replaces Nick Burdi. Michael Morse strikes out swinging. Matt Juengel hits a grand slam (12) to left field. Kenny Wilson scores. Carlos Lopez scores. Austin Nola scores. Viosergy Rosa strikes out swinging. Burdi gives up a double and clears the bases for Lee, and Reed comes in and gives up a grand slam to tag Burdi with more runs. These guys should be friends and stop doing that to each other! How does a guy score from second on a grounder to third?
  9. It surprises me that Danny Santana would be DH'ing instead of getting more reps at short. I just remember that playing baseball and being young....... resting was not really a necessary activity.
  10. Since last year. Usually, folks that are going to be good, are good at every level. Kohl Stewart may be an exception, but people love to hype him. I chuckle every time I see him high on a prospect list. I never see the advantage in raw and young and not ready to help within 2 or 3 years. He is in good company with other number ones, Levi Michael & Alex Whimmers.
  11. Never? I guess I should now just ignore all those that did say it in the past? Like Houston, recently?
  12. Is that a fact, or opinion? If "stuff" does not create results, it very possibly is not the right "stuff", perhaps. Stuff only goes so far if there aren't results that prove it.
  13. Great. As it should be. After the Hicks news..... I would have thought Ryan was brain dead if it didn't happen. Goes to show that it is a good thing not to pay attention to so called experts who state opinions as fact. Will Buxton lead off? Be featured in the lineup? Will this finally get Mauer out of the 3 hole, at least until and if Joe can hit like he deserves to be there again?
  14. Getting better results would offer some proof of that. Sooner that later, even. Or sooner than never.
  15. According to Terry Ryan, they have never been rebuilding. Someone is making something up. It can't be both at the same time.
  16. Secondary User, on 12 Jun 2015 - 2:27 PM, said: Jonathon Lucroy and Troy Tulowitzki There is so much redundancy in the system that you could make a trade giving up enough to make a trade without sacrificing any future, but getting value before it is diminished or gone. And without losing the 'jewels'. You just have to make some choices now. Arcia or Vargas, for instance. Santana or Polanco or Gordon. Meyer or Stewart or pick one. Wait until July and just after the all-star break to see if this team can rebound, and if it is real, but there is a lot of redundancy to make decisions about.
  17. What is the point of having Oliveros start? He was doing just fine as a reliever, and there are plenty of starters now.... and more coming?.
  18. Cody was horrible and lost velocity this season, and demoted. I really don't understand why he was picked second and could not rate him in the top 30. Jay..... 12.
  19. I remember a 3 inning tie game into extras where Graham pitched great... for 3 high leverage important innings, giving up only 1 hit, no walks, and 2 Ks, and we beat Pittsburgh on Mauers homer. I could look up others. His start of 4 innings and only 1 run given up was pretty darn good. Since getting shelled in one appearance with 2 homers on May 14, he has given up one earned run in 5 appearances, going 13.2 innings with 1 walk and 11ks and 14 hits. In his 16 appearances, he has only given up an earned runs in 4 of them, and for 3 of the 4 only one. I really don't see how he is mentioned in the same breath as Stauffer.
  20. Here is the box link for the 2nd Lookouts game, a 3-2 win. I hate 7 inning professional games. So Little League. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2015_06_09_cngaax_jacaax_2&t=g_box&did=milb&sid=t498
  21. I totally agree. I am not saying that Boyer (like Thompson) might fall apart... but it is way to early to consider that it has happened. Perkins tends to give up the homer too (and it usually costs the game, which this one tonight did not)...... not that I am comparing him to Perkins, but I feel he is not in the same discussion with Duensing and Stauffer at this time.
  22. I am still not assuming that the stretch run is coming, especially after losing 4 out of the last five games and hitting like all the pundits have said would happen. Relief this year for sure...... and if needed, use him. Team control is secondary to having a piece that could be helpful if the playoffs come.
