  1. Boyer? He may not keep up his surprising performance, but isn't this a little early to include him with this company? It amazes me that Molitor keeps thinking Duensing is worth bringing in in games that are close. I don't see what anyone sees in Tonkin. He can handle AAA, but is over-matched in the show. He has had his chances. I am truly amazed this pen has not totally blown up yet.
  2. Who knows, eh? The speed he will throw as a starter is a guess no matter if you are a scout or a fan. I like that he is a college pitcher that you don't have to wait 5 to 6 years to maybe help the club. I am not a fan of selecting high school arms. I might have liked Fulmer better, but here's to hoping it works out and sometime in the future adds a fine lefty to the rotation.
  3. Yup. Tulo likes to get injured. Maybe he even dreams about it.
  4. I hope Arcia gets a lot of days off...... unless he can ever figure out how to play outfield. Unless he hits .333 and belts 35 homers, I think, overall, he will be a liability.
  5. I think it means neither one of them need to be in AAA, but need to learn how to succeed in the show, and the show is where they should be now. The time is now.
  6. Tulo is hitting his usual groove and now over .300 with 6 homers at short. The Twins have depth and quality that can serve Colorado's future..... and we don't need them all.
  7. "Interestingly, while KC's World Series run last year was heavily driven by speed and aggressiveness on the base paths, the Royals have stolen only 30 bases this season, ranking them ninth in the AL. That should make life a little easier for Kurt Suzuki." Let us hope that is the case, and not the other viewpoint...... that Suzuki and the Twins' pitchers will make it easy for KC to steal bases and increase their season number.
  8. This is the second Vargas thread started since about 2:30 today.......
  9. Great to have Vargas back.... and Santana needs to get it back. This is a great move, since Vargas needed to be here all season, especially after the hot beginning of May and the hitting we missed from him while in AAA. Escobar doesn't seem to be the answer at short either, but tons better than being in the outfield and having a .230 hitter being DH. We really need a MLB shortstop. I see Tulo is hitting over .300 again......... lots of pieces to trade without sacrificing the future...... Now if we can just get the pen sorted out and down to 12, and get a backup catcher that is hitting and another bench bat....
  10. So correct me if I am reading this article wrong, please. Ryan is upset and considers it invalid for Baumann to write an article from a collection of stats and a general knowledge of baseball, and Ryan is upset that someone do that without seeing the team play. But that is basically his exact practice when he decides who to draft. He won't look at them, but rely on other people's reports. How is this different than what Baumann is doing? Isn't it all opinion, anyway?
  11. Arcia has not been activated and is still on the 15 day DL doing a rehab allowed - max 20 days for non-pitchers, 30 for pitchers. He could be activated at anytime now. A player can stay on the 15 day DL indefinitely - even until the season ended. If re-injured during the rehab... he can be moved the the 60 day, the advantage being he is no longer counted on the 40 man roster or the 25 man active roster. If one stays on the 15 day indefinitely, only the active roster spot is available.
  12. The Michelin Man! Hey, Parmelee always hits over .300............ in AAA. As this is a rhetorical poll, I won't participate.
  13. It stlill happens every day, every game, and since there is a double header today, it will happen even more. To ever let up and lope at all to first base is just not smart. The double could have been a triple. The swinging strikeout not caught could force a throw to first. But the "pros" do it all the time. All of them on this team do it, unless they think they really might have a chance to beat it out. It is really shameful. What else do they have to do at the time, anyway? The get to play ball and get paid way too much to do it. RUN!!
  14. Stated as fact and not opinion, but I think it is opinion, and no one knows what it would take yet, but it is highly rumored that Tulo will be traded. I contend, and now repeat, it is a start to the conversation..... one doesn't even know what Colorado would want yet. There are plenty of redundant pieces in the minors that are very good prospects, but many of the same eventual pieces. The trick is to trade some while their up side is shouting and the downside hasn't gotten exposed to much to make them lose value.... like the talk is about Alex Meyer's current value dropping to very low.
  15. And what if Tulos's injuries are behind him? And what if he does sustain? And what if Polanco is not the future shortstop but Gordon is?.... in 4 to 5 years, just in time to replace Tulo? Polanco and Santana both have fielding ability questions. No prospect is a sure thing. Either way, you don't need both or all three or 4. Remember the amazing haul for Johan Santana? Will Santana and Escobar become another Rivas/Valencia/Florimon/Parmalee that you yo-yo back in forth from AAA to the show, can rake in the minors but fail everytime in the show?..... and then finally give up on them and get nothing in return? Or do you go with arguably the best all around shortstop in the show in the middle of his prime years as a team leader in the infield leader position for the rest of the new youth coming up? Polanco could be great. Gordon could become great. Or not. Tulo is. The main point is that you can make a mega-deal to vastly improve the team right now without ruining plans for the future. You can't make 10 of them, but you can make at least one.
  16. Atlanta already figured out to not have Schafer on the 40 man. It took them two times to do it and get it right, though.
  17. Graham could be more than stashed. He could be used more. He has been quite good and especially the last few outings, including 3 high pressure innings of 95-98 mph fastballs in the 9th-11th when the game was tied in Pittsburgh.
  18. The first rodeo in AAA already addressed...... I don't think he needs to be there, and I also think the Twins need him on the roster and would benefit greatly, especially considering the other options. For Ryan to say he is not forcing his way back is baffling. The numbers are posted previously. Maybe it is his 12 Ks in 39 ABs. The same tunnel vision used with BBs for Meyer last year. Ignore the OPS but focus on the Ks. Ks don't cause double plays. It could be worse.
  19. I am loving this outfield. With this pitching staff, a staff that doesn't miss bat, Hicks and Rosario have been great out there, and needed. I don't see Hicks anywhere close to tumbling thru centerfield, and his bat is about .250 for both sides of the plate. I wish Vargas had never been sent down, and he is a switch-hitting DH. Pinto - he hardly even catches in Rochester, and could be traded. Arcia is a quandary. No real room for both Vargas and Arcia.
  20. I think the mega-deal should be attempted at Shortstop, and for Tulo, who is going to be traded, just a mattter of who to. Some combination of Pinto, Arcia, Meyer, Santana, (or their choice of shortstop from Santana, Escobar, Polanco, and Gordon), could all be on the table to start the conversation without digging into the future team. I would hate to give up Meyer, but it has become obvious to me that the FO really isn't that interested in having him help the team. The only two not offered could be Buxton and Sano, but stay selective on what is given up. Pinto seems not wanted. Shortstop problem is handled with 3 more in the wings. DH solved as Arcia and Vargas can't both be the DH only. Add Pinto as a catcher with upside bat (basically another DH for us as he rarely even catches in Rochester), and Colorado could have almost ready prospects to help them quickly. Now there is just Sano (soon) and Vargas needing ABs at DH. Colorado may have different pickings, but this would start the conversation. The Twins could solve their shortstop problem with prospects they are burying in the minors anyway, and replaced the problem with arguably the best all around shortstop in the show while still with 3 more that could replace Tulo if hurt.
  21. Escobar is also just hitting .167 on the road, too. It would have been so cool this series to have the Big Papi and the Bigger Papi.... both in the lineups. I really like Vargas better than Arcia, but 20 homers last year is in Arcia's pocket. Escobar's value is not in leftfield or manning the DH, especially on the road. I hope this bench we are carrying is overhauled soon.
  22. I sure hope to see Alex Meyer get some innings. Since the move to the pen, and with Fien needed the rehab and the rain, it seems like he is on the DL or something. They need to get him in some games. Not pitching is not progressing.
  23. The thing that concerns me so much is that he makes every team a .324 hitting team and gives up so many hits. I think he is getting better, though. I like that ERA. Iike that each game he went deeper into the game. He has had some games with a devastating hook. Nolasco certainly has not gained any fans with his overall performance. It really is too bad.
  24. I sure would like to see the speedsters steal some bases. The whole team has only 19 (including ones that could have been defensive indifference but weren't ruled that), and worse than that, they have been thrown out 15 times! They are making catchers look great. I really expected to see a great stealing team with Molitor as manager.
  25. One thing I wish Dozier would brush up on is the art of the tag. He reaches for the runner on steals and taking throws from the outfield as they are sliding into second. This is instead of bringing his glove down in front of the base. He will reach up the the body and have his glove too high, and the foot or hand can touch the base before the tag, even though he had the ball in plenty of time. Also, he likes to raise the glove with the ball in it up in the air right after he tags, instead of keep the glove on the player until the player stops. Yesterday was a great example. The call wasn't overturned, but the runner slid off the base during the silde, and Dozier was already raising his glove in the air to try to influence the umpire, instead of keeping the glove on the runner just in case. With the replay, the trying to influence the umpire with confidence is not going to help.
