  1. Nice to see that Hunter and Berardino have found a more friendly axis to interact around since the welcoming press conference. Does that mean that Hunter now likes pr..... ? Oh.... nevermind. It was a nice article. That is the point.
  2. Neither Alex nor Ryan was/is Pressley. Alex is Presley, and Ryan is Pressly. Having him back.... it will rekindle the various wrong spellings of his name. But then, losing Stauffer will save his name from being misspelled, so that is a wash. At least with Santana we just need to know the first name.
  3. And still no Oliveros. If you are not on the 40 man, you might be better and not get the call.
  4. Well, I find it surprising, and interesting, because I expected them to be rust resistant, as long as you want to use that rust metaphor. The greats are rust resistant. Both prospects are heralded by all of and around baseball to be future all stars, and to be great. Matt Harvey got all cut up and sat out a year.......... and comes back with very little if any rust at the highest level of baseball. So that is my opinion and I am sticking with it.
  5. Comedy is not pretty. If they can't take a joke............. I think it worked just fine and made the point well. No need to blow it up to be anything else.
  6. I see no future for Milone. The 85-87 mph fastball with little movement, and the change up being about 81 mph and only a few mph different is not something that will create sustainable results ever. Not as a starter, and not as a reliever. No where in the majors. This is not saying that he will not have occassional good outings. He has and can and probably will. Oakland knew what they were doing. But I am not a fan of Nolasco starting right away either, but I bet he will be trade bait and he needs to show he can have a string of maybe 4 or 5 good outings to get him traded and unloading that horrible contract.
  7. It is so very interesting that the "top prospects" in the anointed very good farm system by just about all of baseball aren't helping their respective farm teams much at all, and they are now all playing (except for Thorpe and Stewart right now.....). And I would even include the Marlins with Houston and the Cubs, as it took them a total of 2 years to revamp their entire team and be competitive (unless you want to claim their slow start is significant.... which I contend is not).
  8. As this was the same line of reasoning that the same brain trust used to select that opening day staff, this is quite concerning when you consider the results of the selections.
  9. Right to Fien, the pitcher, and pitchers are the best athletes on the team, just ask Bert. (I guess you don't have to ask, as he has told us a million times already). This tradition of not having the pitcher field his position is nuts. That ball caught and the inning is over after the next batter and the game is still tied, and Fien was only at 13 pitches. They looked like a little league team on that play. As for the outfield...... That was one horrible route to the ball by Schafer, but that is how he plays. Many horrible routes to the ball. He has speed, but he is lost in the outfield.
  10. Me too. I would have picked Oliveros at this point. I fear Tonkin will be mediocre. I don't understand why Fien was left in that ball game after the 8th. 2 innings and 23 pitches on Sunday, an inning and 9 pitches yesterday, and already 18 today before the 9th. I said to my son as Fien came out for the 9th, "They're gonna get him hurt by making him pitch so much with that shoulder so soon......" and then the homer and the exit, after 35 pitches today. Poor management of Fien in my opinion.
  11. Why was Fien even still in the game after the Cabrera' home run? It was already his second inning and it was proving to be too many. Molitor and Allen's judgement is pretty suspect to me. And if pitcher's are such great athletes, why does Fien just not take that pop up in the 8th by himself? It was right to him. He would barely of had to move. The tradition of not having pitchers field balls is ridiculous. I think.
  12. Meyer's pitches that were getting drilled were right down the midde, at least that is how the gameday showed it. What would you rather have, a few walks or lots of hits? I don't understand why they pulled him after 4 innings and only 68 pitches. Is he hurt? He didn't walk anyone. Does that means he is Twins' ready now? I know. That isn't fair. Meyer is a really frustrating carrot to dangle for these last three years. Meanwhile, Span goes 4-5 today and even homers, and Buxton and Sano seemed destined for a long season in AA. As much as I enjoy reading these great minor league wraps....... maybe I need to stop for a spell.
  13. I have never understood why Major League Baseball players can be so lazy. They just don't keep the hustle up and hope for the best even when it seems hopeless. I mean, what else do they have to do? The time they get to be at bat or on the base paths is limited, and they get to play a game and get paid millions of dollars, so what is the problem? Why do almost all stoop to loafing and quitting and giving up before the play is over? Watching Oswaldo Arcia give up on the base paths against the Tigers as he ran through a hold sign raised my ire to new heights. More about that later. Time after time I watch a batter strikeout on a swinging strike in which the ball is not caught by the catcher, and they don't take off and try to extend the play and make the catcher make a play at first. It happens all the time. Most don't even look to see if the catcher caught the ball and the play is over. They just quit and be mad at themselves or fall back on feeling sorry for themselves when they can still extend the play. They stand there and start taking off their shin pads or elbow pads and don't even look, and get tagged out effortlessly to end the play. It ain't over 'til it's over! Sure, even if they do pay attention, and do get out the the box and on the way to first, the chances are slim that they won't be thrown out easily. But it can happen. And it does happen. Every throw you make someone do can go awry. And what else do they have to do? Walk to the dugout? Take their batting gloves off? Run you lazy spoiled ball player. Get your ass on down the line. And then there are the grounders right at an infielder. Loafing down to first base the batters go, begging for the play to end and many don't even touch first base. No sprinting to first and applying pressure. And the loafing on fly balls that are really tagged and are surely home runs...... that aren't. Now the triple is barely a double, or the double is a single. What is wrong with these people? Why do managers not tighten up the ship? Which brings me to Tuesday night, Twins against the Tigers. To end the bottom of the 5th, Oswaldo Arcia blows through a stop sign rounding third and is out by a mile, instead of holding and having the bases loaded. When the catcher has the ball Arcia is sitll at least 30 feet from home plate. He is already giving up and slowing down and conceding the play. He is looking right at Avila as he catches the ball. Does Arcia try to make a play? Nothing. He gives up and trots into the tag. I even saw Yadier Molina do the same thing in the playoffs 2 years ago. Why not stop, get in a rundown. You never know what can happen. He also could have used deception, and acted just like he did, and then made a dive on his belly to the plate, and faked out the catcher. Be creative. Make an athletic play. Dodge the tag. Something. Anything! He was almost safe anyway, because Avila just waited to tag him on the belly right at the plate. If you use slow mo to see that play, the tag barely was made on him before his foot touched the plate. He could have even carried out the fake and scored, perhaps, with his foot and deception. But he gave up on the play. It ain't over until it's over. Ever. To give up on the play is just lazy and irresponsible of professionals, and it happens all the time.
  14. I think getting paid twice is not correct. A player can be signed for the minimum by the other team, and the team that releases the player gets that amount of salary relief. The total paid remains the same, just split between the teams, with the signing team getting the player for the minimum.
  15. Please tell me how Nolasco can be sent to triple A. That is thrown around so much, and it surprises me that it is offered in this article, and for vets, it is just not possible most of the time without DFAing and that whole process, which could lead to his outright release.... and salary paid by the team that releases him. So...... please tell me how Nolasco can just be sent to triple A. You can put him in the pen and be an innings eater to earn his way back and wait for the injuries. Or try to trade him to the Dodgers. If they will let Scott Baker in the rotation, they might just love Ricky again. And they have the money. Meyer was shelled today, and taken out of the game with only 68 pitches after 4 innings. He didn't walk anybody though, so maybe that makes him promotable? Great headline.
  16. Well.... nuclear is now nucular because a president said it.......... and then there is the new accepted definition of literally to also mean the opposite, figuratively. Nothing is safe is something can also mean its opposite. If enough people say it is so, even if it is wrong, it becomes the meaning these days. It looks like 10 is in the lead in the poll here on Twins Daily. Lookout. (Don't even get me started on the silent t in often......... so many said it wrong and pronounced the 't' that it became an accepted alternate pronunciation. just ax all those that say it that way. Jeff Daniels says it right (silent), and he is dumber 2.) http://www.salon.com/2013/08/22/according_to_the_dictionary_literally_now_also_means_figuratively_newscred/ sorry.......... back to the minor league report.
  17. Thanks..... I got to bolster the 10 camps lead in the poll. I find it weird that the search engine won't find the article with bat around, but it will with batting around. It seems that it should have come up with it for bat around, too.
  18. I give up. Nothing comes up in a search for "bat around" in other baseball, all forums or articles. Something tells me I won't be missing anything, anyway. I did find this, though, and I am solidly in the 10 batters camp. http://www.wsj.com/articles/mlb-heres-a-perplexing-question-to-bat-around-1429571356
  19. There it is. Journeyman. You can't just use the dictionary for every word's application. You could be an all star and still be a journeyman if you play for a different team every year. The "been around for a long time part" is the lessor part of the definition, I think. Will Myer is almost a journeyman already. Delmon Young is a journeyman.
  20. It is pretty sad when being 7-5 out of the last 12, and even 7-4 out of the last 11 games is considered "hotness".
  21. I try to not look at the numbers at this point. That just leads to drinking. They are just horrible. But if one does, it is pretty amazing that they sit at 8-10 right now.
  22. I agree. It is well documented and understood what ages these guys are. If you are going to be great, age means nothing. They have all been playing ball for years and years. That is what concerns me. Matt Harvey was out for a year, and that didn't get him rusty. The greats are rust resistant. All of baseball has anointed Buxton and Sano as "going to be great", and not just another top prospect. Buxton has been anointed 'Mike Trout great'. With Chattanooga as loaded as they are in addition to these two, the ball the Lookouts are playing still surprises and disappoints me. Even if I accept that patience is in order, and not overrated, I find it disappointing at this point.
  23. Ah.......... but I was always of the understanding that bat around = the batter that starts the inning gets to the plate again, or 10 plate appearances. But maybe there is an inside joke going on here and "but did they bat around?" is a rhetorical question?
  24. It continues to amaze me how disappointing the Lookouts are with all the "great" prospects. The good news...... Nolasco can dominate at the low A level.
  25. Yikes. Plouffe is classified and grouped with Schafer and Robinson. That has gotta sting a little.
