  1. The business of baseball has always sucked. Segregation, free agency, lockouts, etc. The owners are pigs. Someday, maybe the fans can actually own the teams as a fan cooperative. I doubt it though. I like baseball. All baseball. I hope the Cubs make it to the playoffs this year. I hope they win it soon.
  2. Oh..... now I remember. And why them? Because Ryan wanted to see what he had! Same reason to see May and Meyer then and now. But instead, it would be harmful to them, eh? I don't buy it.
  3. Exactly. Not even memorable, but taking up starts.
  4. Maybe they aren't. We will never know, now.
  5. What was the Twins starting five at the beginning of last season? Nolasco, Hughes, Pelfrey, Correia, and Gibson. I believe they were all right..... well, not all right but all right. You know what I mean. And that was another Ryan creation.
  6. The problem is, the Twins have historically just created other log jams when Ryan (or Smith, who was just a Ryan clone with Ryan as his advisor) used this method in the past. The Ponsons and Lambs and Boones and Hernadezes and Walters and Diamonds etc etc etc.... and it just doesn't work. The few prospects/players they finally culture and get to The Show, Ryan has traded for more prospects (like Span for Meyers) just when they are useful, and the team never happens. Folks on this list are always calling for the same thing.... like sell high on Plouffe just as he has become the player fans had always hoped he would. The Marlins cleaned house between the 2012 an 2013 season, took payroll down to 30 million something I think (not sure the number but it was very low)..... and two years later, they are ready to compete. Two years. Terry Ryan may be a nice guy - I don't know and have never met him - but his ship has sailed years ago.
  7. Pelfrey, Darnell, Stauffer...... and that is supposed to be comforting and make one breathe easier?
  8. Here's to Phil having a good April, which is rare. Last year's April was forgettable, and you have to go back to 2010 I think to find a good April. Last year.... horrible April, great May, poor June and July, very fine August and September.
  9. Lying about your health and costing your team losses, to me, is the antithesis of classy. I find it very selfish and all about me and not about team. Both Pelfrey and Nolasco admitted that is what they did, albeit for the team, which also lends itself to lying to oneself. Perhaps being honest now in regard to his disappointment of being "penned" is about "me" too? This could be the best thing that ever happened to Pelfrey. He has a chance to extend his career. For me, it is hard to forget the last two seasons. On the trading block, I doubt other teams will forget either.
  10. The genius of Terry Ryan. And he continues to keep his job. "Nunnie"??? I threw up on that one. More of the same. What Molitor said about Milone is very depressing. I thought Paulie would be different.
  11. I don't care if you are a scout or a GM, you can't know or tell how someone will perform until they are given the opportunity. You can guess, but you don't know. If you want to pitch that scouts and GMs do this for a living and know better than me or you, that they are professionals and make a living at it and that proves it.....then look at the results. The only differences this team has from last year's is Hunter in right and Ervin Santana, another innings eating .500 pitcher with a 4-5 ERA in the rotation. The bullpen is basically a wash with Stauffer and maybe Boyer replacing Burton and Swarzak, and it was terrible last year. Hunter will now be mentoring who? And for that we make an outfield defense more horrible for the pitch to contact staff and don't give pitchers that can miss bats an opportunity. No move was made for a center fielder. This is a team in trouble, and Ryan has orchestrated it for the 5th year running. I am very depressed about the team that I loved before Terry Ryan was even a part of it. Patience is so overrated.
  12. Pelfrey says he is healthy. Can you trust him or Nolasco now? Will they tell you the truth unless they get caught?
  13. Not good enough for the Cards and Braves and A's and Padres is good enough for the Twins.
  14. Brutal. This team will have to score 5-7 runs a game to win. I hope Joe Mauer starts hitting when the bell rings. Hey...... how about that farm system. One of the Best in Baseball.
  15. Nobody knows if somebody is ready for the show until they are given a shot. All the rest is talk.
  16. I really don't think that the rebuild started until the fire sale before the 2013 season and the reduction of the team salary to whatever it was.... under 40 million or something. 2011 wasn't part of any rebuild for the Twins, either, (and I contend it is folly to say that the Pirates and Royals were in rebuild just because they were a bad team) even though it was the start of the culture of losing. Just because the team is horrible doesn't mean they are in "rebuild" mode. Part of rebuilding is that you commit to it. Committing - I contend that is why, in two short years, the Marlins are ready to contend - because they truly committed. In just one year they made a 15 game improvement after gutting the team (and that was with Jose Fernandez going down, too!) Maybe it was Mike Redmond???
  17. The Marlins seem to have done it in about 2 years........
  18. One year contract is fine.
  19. Always fun to read, but forg you. Forg it all. Very annoying.
  20. Burdi and Reed should have had a spring training invite. KC had Finnegan pitching in the World Series! College World Series to World Series. Good for KC!
  21. Please cut Boyer loose. It is time for young blood.
  22. Trade, trade, trade. Sell High. Hey....... Just keep trading off guys that are just getting started for more prospects. The Twins can have the best farm system for years. Who cares about the mother team when you can have the best farm system? It can always happen, well, next year.
  23. In regards to "still learning"........ the player in the majors (or the minors) that isn't still learning is a player that will soon be out of a job. Everyone that is successful in this game is always still learning and adjusting, even from pitch to pitch and game to game. If not, the end is near.
  24. And there is the rub for signing Santana. Will the Twins get to pay for him to have the surgery and rehab for years, finally? Are we jinxing him to even bring it up, again? That was my main problem with his signing. Wainwright lasted 7 years..... which puts Santana .... stop......... I can't think about it.
