  1. Stewart is definitely on the "slow develow". I don't blame BA at all. I like to see results, too, and not just so called experts (and not so experts) spouting off on perceived potential. Hopefully, he did some good work in the off season and is ready to become this year, and not be babied. I personally don't care about the rankings. I actually like it when they are proved wrong.
  2. Absolutely baseball needs to automate the ball/strike calls. It is a change that already is years late. Of course pitch framing comes into play. Umpires are easily fooled. They get it wrong on their own often enough, even without a catcher's trick to cheat the game and the strike zone. So what does one use to establish the pitch framing stat? They use the automated pitch f/x. May as well just finally have a real and true consistent strike zone, and use it to call the balls and strikes. That is what the umpires have always supposedly tried to do, by rule of the game. It is just it is humanly impossible to have a consistent accurate zone with humans calling it. Both the pitchers and batters deserve the strike zone to be real, and not a fantasy. Then there will be no more talk about pitch framing.
  3. They flipped Meyer and Gordon, too.
  4. For that matter, both Buxton and Sano had considerably worse years. Stewart really didn't show much last year, though. I agree with them there.
  5. On February 4 (revised list), when they released each teams top tens ....... the Twins looked like this: 1. Bryon Buxton 2. Miguel Sano 3. Jose Berrios 4. Kohl Stewart 5. Alex Meyer 6. Nick Gordon 7. Nick Burdi 8. Jorge Polanco 9. Trevor May 10. Eddie Rosario Interesteing that Stewart doesn't make the top 100 when BA rated him higher than Meyer and Gordon for the team. Seems they are contradicting themselves.
  6. I wish a lot of Twins would have played that badly (6 for 21, .286) in their playoff appearances. They might have even won some games, then.
  7. Maybe Joe should take bunting lessons from Carew and bunt into the shift. He has good speed of foot. Take those outside edge pitches down the empty third base line with the shift on. A single is a single, whether you bunt or get it through the infield. Puckett adapted. I think that is the key, here. If one just always tries to be who they used to be, the pitchers and the defense adjust, and you find yourself a shell of what you once were and not who you would like to be. Puckett became who he wanted to be because he made changes and adapted. Someone with the athleticism of Joe Mauer should be a great candidate for adapting to keep the edge on his side instead of the opponents, whether that be power, or bunting, or hitting it where the defense isn't.
  8. I was remembering that it wasn't that he returned any money, but that he wasn't paid 3/4 of it. I have never, or can I find, anything about returning the money. "Not debatable is that Jackson clearly did accept the money of gamblers ($5000, after demanding $20,000, according to Cicotte) and having the batting star's name mentioned in connection with the fix gave the scheme credibility. Jackson admitted in his 1920 grand jury testimony to accepting the money. In his 1920 "confession," Jackson would testify that he was promised $20,000 for his participation, but only got a quarter of that amount." http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/blacksox/blacksoxaccount.html
  9. Pete Rose, the player - Hall of Fame. Just elect him in as a player. Some go in as a manager. Some as an executive. Some as and umpire. Pete Rose, the player....... Hall of Fame. Joe Jackson as the example.... I believe he had the change of heart and didn't go through with what he had agreed to. Isn't that like saying you will take a job, and then deciding not to? I don't see Joe Jackson as part of the guilty. He thought about it, but didn't do it. Not Guilty...... just like being married, looking, maybe even fantasizing, but going home to the wife. Chuck Knoblauch........ not a Hall of Famer, but as a player on the Minnesota Twins only? He was a star.
  10. I hope Joe Mauer reads this article.
  11. All this code....... what is a POS? An underground hip hop artist from Minneapolis? Position? Point of Sale? Positively Outstanding Service? What?
  12. As I understand the game, the purpose of every game is to suit up and do the best you can, and try to win. Maybe this is still off topic, but please help me understand how betting on yourself to win changes anything if you are all trying to win - how betting on yourself to win can do enormous damage the game, or create a different outcome, than if you didn't bet on yourself to win and still tried to win. It seems to me, it is enormously different than betting on yourself to lose, and throwing the game. Some in the game - great well respected players and managers included - even openly say "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying".
  13. I came to Twins Daily and "The View" broke out. The horror of it all! And I learned that some don't mind cheaters and long as the are nice.... whatever that means. Nice Cheater. So nice.
  14. "Stewart comes from a very athletic family that includes seven children: Kyle, Kayla, Kohl, Kelly, Kade, Katie and Karli." Kohl's family is an alliteration. I guess it is not as troublesome as George Forman's kids' names. I hope he has recovered from this parental abuse ..... and turns it into a kareer with K's.
  15. So far, a lot of people are buying the hype, because, let's face it, that is about all there is so far. Maybe his velocity will go back up, and he finds control, and he starts striking people out, and he can make at least two of his slider and curve and change and sinker flash and become plus pitches. I sure hope so.
  16. Is there a meaning there for this spelling? Does it mean something I am not getting? I figured it was just a mistake the first time I saw it, but since it is repeated, I am curious.
  17. Yes, I understand that. Perhaps Milone was pitching with a tumor in his neck the whole time, and he didn't know it because it never bothered him. Ervin Santana has been pitching with a partial tear in his medial collateral ligament for years. If he has a horrible season and finally has surgery..... Hey, I get that the tumor could have been a reason his performance had a meltdown. The way he has pitched and the declining velocity trend didn't change much these last 3 years, except for the time on the Twins. Certainly the results did for his short stint on the Twins so far. Scott Diamond looked OK for a bit , too. I see Milone blocking what we need instead of helping this team. We will see. Timing will be everything for him. He will have probably have some chances.
  18. Watching Milone pitch for the Twins, it is almost impossible for me to consider his performance with Oakland ("Over the next two-and-a-half seasons with the A’s, he went 31-22 with a 3.84 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP"). The 6.5 mph difference between his fastball and change up, and his declining fastball average now down to 86.6 mph, I have to feel that Billy Beane knew what he was doing, and using Milone for calling him up for a spot start from Rochester in an emergency is his only up side for this team.
  19. Great point. It is kind and convenient for some to just consider May's good outings in the show, shine that pile, and say he has earned another chance to be the 5th starter. Nolasco would like one to do that for him, too. But the fact is, I have a really hard time not considering that he gave up 40 earned runs in 45.2 innings pitched in the 10 games he appeared in. All the innings pitched count. I don't see how that earns anything yet, but would still like to see him get the first opening after Meyer gets his first opportunity.
  20. May doesn't make any prospect lists except fan based prospect lists. Has his time in the show made him unqualified, and TD and TT and other Twins' bloggers just treat him as an exception?
  21. One would think that that would also be a requirement of someone who plays 1st base, which is also a traditional position that power is often expected. A high OBP can be a consolation to tradition. Here's to hoping Rosario finds one or the other, then.
  22. Definitely. I wasn't trying to pass judgement. Mostly making fun of the projection. Satire lost. So sorry.
  23. Yeah........ but HOW ABOUT THAT FARM SYSTEM!!!! This projection projects another top pick. That is another feather for Terry Ryan's hat.
  24. I see it as he has never been allowed to be in the race. Hard to cross the finish line, when you have never even been tested in the show.
