  1. 2015 Baseball Prospectus top 101........ Meyer #14, Kohl Stewart #28, Jose Berrios #48, Lewis Thorpe #91, Nick Burdi #99. (Byron Buxton #1, Miguel Sano #12, Nick Gordon #70). The prospects lists love Stewart. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=25538
  2. Thanks for the post. Great stuff.
  3. With you 100%. Meyer, Berrios, Stewart.
  4. Great entry!
  5. I think the bullpen is going to get hit early and often this year, and look forward to seeing what the young arms can do and hope their rise is not impeded by false hope in the more veteran staff assembled and kept. With that in mind, replacements are available for tired arms. I sure hope Perkins comes to camp in shape, and has gotten rid of the chub he added throughout last year.
  6. ...... and it is worth absolutely nothing. These guys are wrong so many more times than they are right. He could be right, but no team would not try him as a starter first. Hey....... John Smoltz's furture was in the bullpen, too, but not until several years as a starter.
  7. Exactly. IF that happens, there are several starters to replace him for a spell. Then you can try those with less talent. And Berrios could be a real surprise before you know it.
  8. I would say definitely. But with Perkins' contract, and Burdi leading a slew of slinging arms that were drafted to relieve and could be ready even by the middle of this year, (and isn't every team hoping to strike gold and find the next Craig Kimbrel), why waste a guy with the pitches necessary to start. I can't see why you would mess with him at this point, and even temporarily have him pitch out of the bullpen. I mean, he was softhanded last year for a reason, and it wasn't to have him pitch out of the bullpen. Why even go that route now? If he is ready out of spring training, why waste anymore time? See if he can compete and start right out of the gate. He can always go to the pen. If he looks ready, like Gibson looked ready, and you want to field your best team......... what are you waiting for? For Meyer to turn 26?
  9. It always amazes me that minor league pitchers can be described as only 26, and be thought of as young. 26 should be prime time for a baseball player. How old is Kershaw? 26 -- 27 in March. Pitchers making an impact in the show well before 26 are not a real rarity. Only 22.... only 23.... that deserves an only. I would say Wimmers is already 26, so it is now or never.
  10. Meyer is 25 and healthy. Time to start him in the show. Period. Anything else is just wasting an asset that you traded a fine center fielder for. Patience is highly overrated. Same with walk rate for a lights out pitcher.
  11. “I feel bad, like I’ve taken money from the Twins. It’s been frustrating. You play this game to play, and compete, and be successful and do it well. Obviously that hasn’t happened.” And it looks like another $5.5 million this year. At least he is not fooling himself.
  12. Watching Van Slyke play out here in LA, I would wish for Van Slyke for Nolasco immediately if not sooner. The only place Ricky really pitched well (I contend the rest of his career was mediocre, except for horrible for the Twins) was for the that last part of 2013 in Dodger Blue. I would even go Hicks and Nolasco for Van Slyke. That would open up the rotation for Meyer and give us a center fielder that can hit and field.
  13. Giving Blue more to do is a mistake in my mind. Giving them less.... like the cameras calling accurate balls and strikes..... much better. The game ends when it ends. We love baseball and then want to make less of it happen? I don't get it.
  14. Exactly. That was my veiled point. There are no universal rules that I know of.
  15. Could someone direct me to the definitive universal rules for what makes a prospect a prospect?
  16. You can't sit out a whole season (regardless of why) and expect to stay at the top. I totally agree with the rankings. Both Sano and Buxton have a lot to prove now. Hype is over - time to deliver. Bryant even spent half the year in AAA ball and should also replace Buxton at the top of the heap in the top 100. Interesting that with only the outfield and shortstops left to rate for 2015's top 10 at each position, only Sano at #3 and Meyer (at 25 years old, barely, at #10 for RHP, and none of the other 19 top rated pitchers are even 24 yet) have cracked the lists. Only 2 players. Perhaps there will be 3 or 4 total? (Buxton for outfield and perhaps Polanco or Gordon at short... maybe?)
  17. It often seems..... teams that can't win the MLB games love to talk about the farm. Teams that are busy winning were it counts....... not so much. Then a few, like the Cards, just do both well. I have also found it curious, that so often the talk abut the prospects is that they are not ready, and just need more seasoning, and all of the sudden all the prospects are 27 and 28.
  18. I don't think one has to necessarily "earn" it. Not is this day and age. Nolasco hasn't earned it. Pelfrey hasn't earned it. Both got the job regardless, and they even showed that they earned the bench or released. For that matter, Santana hasn't earned it and Hughes hadn't when he got his job. Apples and oranges, and not the same thing, I know. When a best prospect is ready by age and experience, it is time, especially when you are coming off four 92 plus loss seasons. Meyer could earn it in The Show the first month of April and never look back....... but not if you don't let him have the opportunity. Seeing him pitch..... to me, he has earned it and should have been up last year. He might have even walked less batters than May!
  19. Trade Span for Meyer and then consider soft tossing Milone for a spot when Meyer is ready? May will probably be the one to end up in the pen for his career, anyway. How about Meyer the 5th starter (who probably has the best stuff on the staff) and let May work from the pen. Milone can be ready when the injury comes or Nolasco totally washes out. Berrios might even be ready by then. Meyer doesn't need to get any older in AAA. He is my choice.
  20. I guess we will find out if Molitor is a manager that has the freedom to manage as he sees fit, or if Ryan influences him to not do what he wants to do. I hate to see Santana "punished" because they didn't address the centerfield debacle. Escobar will get 400 at bats this year if he continues to improve. If Santana shines at short, it will be a great decision. Plouffe, Santana, and Dozier will need spelled and there will be injuries. Escobar is just as much a candidate for regression as anyone else, if that is the way a fan likes to think. The bat will still be in his hand. He can make it so that Molitor can't keep him out of the lineup with his performance. And shame on him for not being able to play centerfield ;-). Santana is not a centerfielder, no matter how often he is played out of position.
  21. If the batter doesn't hit the ball........ it doesn't matter what defense is behind the pitcher. Nolasco's whole career is a sad story of selected stats used for making the case that "he should be better than he actually did." Except he just never was. I hope this year he actually does better than the specialty stats show he should have. Way better. Trade actual performance for virtual analysis. And get rid of that persistent crotch itch. Maybe that will help. And let me add my thanks and kudos for the fine article.
  22. When you get lit up for a .316 average against (and it was even worse most of the season), things can get out of hand quickly, and did. Nolasco makes the whole league a .316 hitter. That is scary.
  23. That could be part of it - the doesn't know anyone - but for 12 million a year, not much of an excuse. I don't know what it was for Mauer, but getting married hasn't seemed to correlate to better performance for him, didn't seem to help Correia much, and it seems to be making Perkins chubby. Nolasco's future is on the line, and I sure hope he figures it out and quick, either to pitch here or to help get him moved so he can take it elsewhere.
  24. Zobrist gets moved to utility so Dozier can make the list? My starting second baseman for this team would still be Ben Zobrist, with Dozier his backup.
