  1. And Dozier is one year removed from a 4.5 WAR.... 0.7 higher than the 3.8 of Schoop. And I didn't see excitement for the idea of Dozier returning. I don't see this FO doing anything special until they see if Sano and Buxton and Kepler .... and Rosario and Berrios and Gibson ..... all show improvement. This all seems a lot like a deja vu of last off seasons quality of moves. If they are shooting for a .500 team or worse, this is just fine. If they want to compete.... these are uninteresting moves.
  2. Yuk. I sense another Morrison season coming. I hope the Twins do better. Like Goldschmidt (31 until September). Or Donaldson. Oh wait, too late. Still........ I for one, hope they do better than another overweight older vet. 32 years old (33 in April) and ready for decline. He may get on base with walks, but good luck scoring from first on a double, or getting to 3rd on a single. The Twins hardly need another .220ish hitter.
  3. It is so hard for me to consider, imagine, or accept, that CJ Cron can make any MLB player irrelevant.
  4. Hey.... we got JC Cron... or is it CJ Cron? Whatever. And his 89 career homers come with him! Morrison redux on the even cheaper, and as a cast off and not even a free agent! And then gave him a contract instead of arbitration! That is some clever shopping. Who needs stars when there is the waiver wire? And we have prospects. Always prospects.
  5. May and Romero can go long from the pen. I like that. Perhaps either could close, too. Never impressed with May as a starter, and Romero can still be moved to start, ala Johan Santana. It would be great to use Kepler for versatility. Especially if he hits for average and OPS. Totally ambivalent about A-stud. Time will tell, if he gets the chance.
  6. A real yawner. Has an upside. Has doubts. It makes me want to take a nap, and I just woke up.
  7. It is a rare prospect that can continue to climb on the way to the Bigs, or not fall from a previous year. So much ado about nothing. It is so easy to anoint the new shiney draft pick as they play low minor league ball. The only thing that really matters is what they do in The Show. All the rest is fansturbation - and even group fansturbation - not that there is anything wrong with that - eh?
  8. we could sign Donaldson and trade for Tulo, and whether they ever stay on the field or not, if we use career stats... they will look good on paper,
  9. I think weight is always an issue. Always. And not just for Sano and all athletes (especially athletes) but for everyone. It is hardly ever easy to control one's weight in our gluttonous culture, where now over 70% of Americans are either overweight or obese. But it can be done. It just takes desire and focus and work. I wish him self control and discipline, and a 2019 that makes him a superstar.
  10. I feel sorry for Dozier. And that is not sarcasm. He didn't get paid when he was worth a hell of a lot more for three years before this last one, and now, with last year's performance, he isn't worth much going forward. He might have to settle for around 5 million to play baseball this season. Damn. 5 million. And that is sarcasm...
  11. I guess that means that they were not being under-compensated at a shocking level, and the predictions that were made were just terribly wrong. Dozier will feel it this off season. The sad thing to me is, that when the plaayers immensely out perform their contracts, the Team never gives them a voluntary bonus for it. If the world worked better, that would happen just because it would be right.
  12. Both headed for a waiver wire extended adventure before 2019 even starts is my bet. Definitely both clubs will try to pass them through waivers, too, regardless. Wasted innings for a team out of contention in September. Oh well. SNAFU.
  13. I was waiting for the other comparisons to Puig, like the off field behavior, attitude, showboating, etc..... which also fits like a glove. Sano is the Twins' Puig, in many ways. He has had Yasiel Moments.... just off the field. His off-season start with running over a cop's leg (accidently or not) at 3 in the morning outside a bar is not a great bump in the transition we are all hoping for. Perhaps the biggest failing these contracts have, and perhaps club policy, is not having a mandatory ongoing support seminar and cultural type of education schedule to help these too rich kids become a mature adult and player. Or something like that. I really hope that one day, an all-star selection is made from better critera than a hot first 2 1/2 months of the current season. Lots of players get exceptionally hot for a couple months, but are no where near a true all-star.
  14. Dereck Rodriguez is the perfect example of giving a young player an opportunity, and see what happens. I hear the "he isn't ready" mantra so often, from team reps and from fans and on these boards. Some will be. Dereck was, and way before all the "experts", including ours, said he was. He took the opportunity and he was ready. The Giants are the winners, and the Twins are the big losers.
  15. Collusion? I think the owners are just getting smarter. Long term/high dollar contracts are horrible for a team. I hope it changes to short (2-4 years) contracts with higher per season earnings. Players want to get paid for nothing these days........ nothing in the sense of getting old and fat or hurt or just incapable of actually deserving the money they get during the contract. High incentives per season. Just because all can see the mistakes of the the past contracts and all don't want to be caught in so much wasted money doesn't mean collusion to me. The players would benefit from the contracts for the year, and the teams can't be hurt by them so much, because they aren't paying someone that ins't worth it. Nobody really deserves to be paid what they don't earn when they start sucking. But they do when they are the best. I don't see reducing the risk for the team as collusion. I see it as smart. I think all contracts should have a high amout of incentives for performance, a bunch of mutual options, and players should get off the idea they should be paid for something if they aren't earning it.
  16. I wish that article was updated to show what contract they actually got... all in one place right there.....
  17. I commend you for the creative positivity of the headline, creating excitement, and enticing the the read to find Blankenhorn is ripping it up in the AFL. That isn't easy with a .188/.316/.250 line. All in all, other than Smeltzer and Bray so far, this seems like a total bust for our Twins contingent.
  18. I don't read where anyone here, including myself, is holding not being fluent in spanish against Baldelli. It became a discussion point, and a worthy one in this day and age. As for intelligence having nothing to do with being able, especially as an adult, to learn an additional language, or even want to....... well, I disagree. As hard as it is, it can't hurt, and will certainly help. Being around others that speak the language, and them helping as one starts the process, is also so very helpful. Just taking classes, and not having an outlet to try it and make mistakes and learn nuances and dialects from those that do is much harder and slower to have it take, for sure.
  19. Boston's run with 2 out hits and runs scored is truly impressive. I really hate to see the season end, and hope we get a 6 or 7 game series, though.
  20. Machado purposely steps on Pearce's heel..... and Joe Buck says "he was just trying to beat the throw". I guess the huge rest of the base is too hard to get to.... the almost square foot that doesn't have a foot barely touching it. And last night Joe Buck says Turner "was just going straight into second base" when he so obviously took his right foot and purposely took out Bogaerts shin..... by kicking it about three foot away from the base as he slid right into second base. Come on...........Joe. Get real. And Manny.... grow up and just play clean baseball.
  21. Batter by batter.... he was pulled with one out and a runner on first..... pitching a one hitter..... FOR ANOTHER LEFTY!~ Roberts is a fool all too often.
  22. Watching Roberts keep putting Madson in, and him giving up the inherited world series runs - now 7! - blows me away. Alex Wood is getting clobbered in the playoffs, too, but Roberts just keeps doing the match-up thing. But like us watching Molitor pretend Hildenberger is the guy to go to when he is getting clobbered over and over, these managers just have a formula that they can't bring themselves to sense what everybody watching can feel. I would have given Hill the opportunity to finish the inning, batter by batter. That curve was cranking, and he was only at 91 pitches, and eating up the Red Sox.
  23. Watched until the end! Baseball history. Sleep is overrated. Bottom of the 18th and Muncy finally got his dinger. And I am in LA so not so late. Nathan Eovaldi is a free agent when this is over. Sign him!
  24. The longest World Series game in MLB History, and I am still watching. Hell it's only 11:15 in LA! It's still early.
