  1. All I am saying is........ that I would rather have a bright star that burns quick, and shines bright, than a long term innings eater middle of the road pitcher.
  2. Don't you just love the strategy of being so bad you get the number one pick, and then you take a number 9 at number 1, just to save a couple million to pay a 30 something? And you totally don't take advantage of the number one overall pick. Not my style.
  3. ?? 43 Ks in 28 innings this year. They shut him down on the mound in April. Parents want to save the arm and development for pro ball. http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/hunter-greene/uMJm9ZrFEeOzMAAmVebBJg/gendersport/baseball-stats.htm
  4. Interesting, that when the predictions for the NCAA basketball tourney are looked back on, the talking heads that told us what would happen, don't fare well. I agree that the science is not to be denied. If Greene can do what he does now without his legs "strong enough", just imagine what can be with legs becoming strong enough, and used more! I will take 4 great Lincecum years, more than a 4 ish ERA inning eater (Brake Radke?) that last a longer time. All pitchers are going to break down. Their time, like running backs, is limited, and they know that going in, or should. Even with the science, we are guessing, just convincing ourselves it is a better guess with better probabilities. Until they go down anyway. Which they do with ever increasing frequency, regardless of the better knowledge and science. It's fun to talk about, though. And then there are unexplainable occurances, like Sandy Koufax (bright and quick and violent delivery) and ageless Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson...... and Clayton Kershaw.
  5. Rosario does fine fresh out of the pen. Let him sit in the dugout for a half inning, and it all goes to hell.
  6. I met his dad at the games I saw. Nice guy. Definitely the family is hoping for San Diego, he even said so, and that is influencing the son. Seems to me it would be best to not be close to helicopter family, for over all becoming. He said they have modeled Hunter's training after the San Diego philosophy, whatever that means.
  7. Some just need to convince themselves they know more than others. Just turn on sports talk radio. Green looks plenty smooth to me. Lincecum didn't do bad for years with his freaky delivery. Nobody knows.
  8. We? This is the pitcher that the Angels would trade for Nolasco and fleece the Twins and take Meyer, too. Even the pitching starved Angels were tired of him and didn't want him. I never wan't him extended or even on the team at all. At least Hughes had a good year. Santiago had a good month. Good thing Ryan was gone. He probably would have extended him.
  9. I'm so used to the Twins number one pick being a disappointment, that if they pick Greene and he falters or hurts himself, it would be SNAFU. Expected. Because, other than Mauer, the first round picks are lucky to make it at all, and if they do, are pretty not so special. So, I hope they aren't the team that misses the chance to grab the anointed one, and watches him be as special as the cover of Sports Illustrated projects him to be. And I always want them to draft college players and not high school. Except this time. I hope they don't blow this.
  10. I am sure he meant the NCAA regional on Saturday. Clemson took them the rubber game.
  11. I fear being picked #1 by the Twins will be like being on the cover of the Madden football box. If they pick Wright, he will suck. If they pick Greene, he will. I wish they could pick one and instantly trade for the other. I am hoping now it is Greene. I saw him play in three games out here at Notre Dame High School. He is amazing. Being picked in the first round by the Twins seems like a curse ever since Mauer. We will see. I bet it is Greene.
  12. I went and saw 3 games. He pitched in two of them. I don't like the idea of another high school pitcher.... but he really looked good. And smooth. And hit a couple of homers. I bet they take him.
  13. While I didn't expect Castro would hit much, I didn't think he would be as poor at the plate as he has been so far. And...... I expected him to catch more pitches. PBs and WPs that sure looked like they were catchable. The miscue at the plate on the great Buxton throw..... I have been disappointed in his glove more than his bat even. Plenty of season for him to perform better, though.
  14. Absolutely not. It takes a couple years of consistent non injury top performance to be an ace. Remember when folks wanted to call Phil Hughes an ace during his one good year? I do. Not then. Not now. It could happen though. Time will tell. Plus.... I don't forget that Santana was caught cheating a little over 2 years ago. That just doesn't go away unless you just ignore it because he is now on your team and doing perhaps as good as he has ever been. I am really surprised his partially torn ACL is still holding up without the juice. It is impressive. I am really happy for his success, and I am all for second chances...... but the past still counts, too. Just ask Roger and Barry and Mark and ..........
  15. The Mets, with all their pitching problems, are letting this guy go. And the Twins, bathing in new front office wisdom, use a 40 man roster spot? This makes me vomit.
  16. Pretender. They could get lucky, though. Pitching pitching pitching. Kintzler is the biggest pretender in a most important role. Triple A roster looks so unremarkable. This is the rebuild (that really never was) in the show now. And it came with no pitching.
  17. Soooo...... it was Berrios' day to start on Saturday..... and the Twins chose Tepesch instead. We know how that went........
  18. I just can't believe Santana instead of Park. I guess let Park cool off before given a chance to redeem himself. 13 pitchers. So when your pitchers suck, just have one more? More suck?
  19. The only thing I like less than the pen...... is the rotation. Relief will not really be in the Twins fan's vocabulary. Santiago is to be the number two starter. And Hughes and his historically horrid opening month will be attempting his comeback. Lots of relief will be needed, but I don't see it coming. A magic pen now wins championships. I do not subscribe do the claim that a pen is easy to throw together. Nor keep.
  20. Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks is minutes away from where I live! Their season starts soon. Hey glunn, do you want to join me and catch Hunter Greene before he has Tommy John surgery? I think I will catch a couple high school games.
  21. I love this move. I like any move these days. This was a 103 loss team! There is hardly any move that could not be an improvement, and this is a minor minor move, so hard to not give it a "may as well". Abad - super lucky in Minnesota and fools gold. Kintzler is too. Especially in the closers roll.
  22. Are alternate facts an alternative to alternative facts?
