  1. Fernando Tatis was horrible. The pace strategy didn't help either. He really got lucky getting through the first round. I thought he might have more gas when he was able to quit with about a minute left in the second round. My favorite homer was Sano finally deciding he just had to swing at anything and golfing that low and outside pitch out! Aaron Judge is a monster. Is there a list of all the homer distances for each player and each homer somewhere? I can't find it if there is, but it would seem there would be one.....
  2. Well documented that he had a very surprising run with 2013 and 2016 being very surprising and useful. Aging is a brutal and ruthless universal condition. It can have quite quick and sudden consequences, especially when you haven't respected and taken care of your body. It is slapping him hard this year, which should be his last. For the best interests of the Twins' future, I hope he doesn't make it out of Rochester, and our youth get the opportunities. Let him take the denial and comeback to another team.
  3. Great spin! I commend you! Except the Twins said that he was their man all year (secretly as they told us later).... except they tried to negotiate with McKay first. Go figure. So, you tell him you are number 1, but not really? Hey, Royce is our man now. And for a bunch of dough LESS than slot value.
  4. Tons at some point during a season. A lot for a season. Different standards, I guess. But OK, not too shabby.
  5. Great catch by Granite. And hey.... he can go 0-fer as well as Buxton! Seriously though, good luck to the kid. I hope your AAA performance can carry over. I hope that in the future, "not too shabby" is used for hitters hitting over .300 and carrying an OPS in the .800s. I think standards have been lowered as no one on this roster is doing that, in both categories. May Dozier get hot, Sano keep doing but striking out half as much, Kepler keep growing, Buxton finally finding a rhythm and hitting well, and Gordon finally becoming a shortstop to brag about (because it isn't Polanco), and the Twins going 20 games over .500 in the second half. Oh...... and the pitching.......
  6. It always seems like a snub to me to be asked, after or before drafted, to not take the money assigned to the slot. What an uncomfortable position to put a kid in. "We love you, but not at what the rest of the league thinks you should be paid, but we still really really really want you, we just want to give your money to someone else, because we really want them to feel welcome". It seems that takes a lot of lying to oneself just to be a number one choice, even though you really aren't worth it to the people who drafted you. Spin it all you like about the strategy, if you are the talent, you have been snubbed. "Show me the Money". Seems a horrible way to start a relationship off with a player you want to be a future face of your organization.
  7. Lesson one: How to steal a Cy Young from a more deserving pitcher.
  8. I had hoped that yesterday's game would be a defining moment for this team. But I guess not. No momentum. Flat and listless today. Granite sure got a lot of meat to swing at. Impressive to not take pitch 10. The buffoons behind the plate love to call balls like that strikes. Not their fault, I guess. They are just guessing, and love to be in a position of power.
  9. I sure hope he doesn't get a start during the Dodger series. That would ruin all the anticipation of seeing the 3 games for me. Please. No Colon for me in LA!!!! Hopefully he gets shelled in Rochester and is released sooner than later.
  10. Gross. Yuk. And not the funny yuk. I did laugh when the Braves signed him for 12.5 million, though. Youth gets overlooked again. Best news.... it is a minor league contract.
  11. Only your opinion. Prince Fielder could have scored on that. Maybe even Albert Pujols! Escobar was almost to third when Smith finally fielded the ball, and he stood on third and watched the ball come in. There was only one out, anyway, so hardly a rally to kill. It doesn't even matter now, but I see Glynn send Sano when there is no chance, and hold Buxton (or Escobar) when the speed can be utilized. Just my opinion, too. And I have that right. Fact is, we will never know.
  12. Never know now. No need to actually use Buxton's speed, I guess.
  13. that was an inside the park. New third base coach! This is way too conservative.
  14. Holding Buxton? Buxton can't score from second with a jump and speed, but Grossman can? No harm as it turns out, but I don't get it. The Angels would have scored 2 on Sano's hit. It wasn't hit too hard for Buxton to score!
  15. Castro seemed to "stutter" on the throw to second, and not just throw it right out. I bet he even had second thoughts about throwing it, in the second it happened. That little extra time took away the time Dozier needed to get the ball back to him in time. Hey, my hat's off to the Angels for executing this play perfectly. The most embarrassing part, is that Maybin didn't even have to slide, and came in standing up. Dozier's return throw was a perfect placement it there had been a slide (but still might have been to late). The Angels are a running team, and that won them this game.
  16. Maybe swimming should go back to having humans guess at who touches the wall first too, or tennis not use the tools to get the linr call right on out or in, or horse racing at the finish. Not using better tools as they become available is the harm done to the game. We have better tools now, and it is not humanly possible to do anything but guess. There is not a game that happens that isn't affected by the incorrect calls. But Sano should have walked, that was the point. It is a crime against the game to not reward the pitcher or the batter when they are right, and the umpire is wrong, and have a true, consistent strike zone. But this is all another topic, so that is all I will have here, and not be hijacking the thread. I see Mauer was ailing from back problems, and unavailable.
  17. This was the 7th time the Angels have pulled this off this year! Management should have been ready for this. The throw goes back to the pitcher, and you get the runner at home after he breaks, and you let the guy take second! That is a risk in itself, considering that Santana threw the ball into center field his last start on an easy double play grounder..... The Angels lead the Majors in SB and are quite good at the double steal. The Twins should have been ready for this. Santana is responsible for the homer, though. The ump called a strike one on ball four on one of those Sano strikeouts. Everyday I hate it more and more that we don't use the tools available and call balls and strikes correctly, instead of letting pompous umpires guess. It was a good game, that could have used more Twins' hits. I would have Mauer (Norris is right handed) hit for Castro. I hated seeing Dozier swing at that last pitch so far outside.
  18. Mejia is listed, on the roster, as 6'3" / 195..... and Pressly as 6'3" / 210. If Mejia is 195, I am 165 again. That is one plump 195 at 6'3".
  19. Butera is probably thinking.... "I could have done that......" Patience, eh? I am so tired of being patient. May we all live long enough to see the 3rd World Series Banner. The hat trick. I wonder how many on this site actually saw (and remembered seeing/old enough) the other two. And how many saw the series in 1965. Damn Sandy Koufax. 0.38 ERA for 3 games. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIN/MIN196510140.shtml
  20. Halfway... and 3 games out of first in the division, and 5 games out of the cellar. Not very comforting, but a ton better than last year. But never seeming to change.... the pitching still sucks and got little attention.
  21. Hughes looked like he was contemplating his retirement on the bench after he was pulled. I don't blame him. I have a hard time not pulling for Alex Meyer, even against the Twins. But hey... we have Santiago (and not that I miss him, but Nolasco just pitched a complete game shutout last night against the Mariners, who bombed our pitching). I fear this will be a long second half of the season. There sure are a lot of .250-ish hitters on this team. I wish Buxton could hit MLB pitching.
  22. What happened? Didn't anyone tell the rest of the team it was Gibson pitching? That is when they score 10 runs!
  23. Or another Buxton. Didn't he hit .360 in AAA ball?
