  1. Thats just it, who do you bring up next?? Who's next in line? Berrios flamed out and from listening to Terry Ryan on Sunday, he was not very impressed with his meltdown and lack of composure - Berrios won't be back soon. Meyer hasn't pitched enough lately to be brought back as a starter. May is melting down in the bullpen, who thinks he'd be any better in the rotation?? The big issue is the short start by Nolasco and the drain on the bullpen, if he keeps delivering these short starts, thats what will drive them to move him. But since this was a 'rain delay' short start they'll trot him out there again - and probably again.
  2. Souhan, Reusse, etc. get read by writing controversial articles. Even here on TD I see lead articles and say to myself 'looks like they're throwing red meat out to the TD commentators'. Thats one popular way for writers to get read.
  3. Does anybody thats not a baseball GM really know what Plouffe is worth now or in July?? Only time will tell. I think you're overthinking it but -- you win.
  4. Its still supply and demand -- mainly demand in June/July as teams realize they could use some help at a position and they don't have any internal options, they've tried out their top minor league talent in April/May, they think they that they need to make a trade - hence more demand later in the summer. More demand means you can play one team against the other. The trade return may not be much but it will be higher than it is now. Teams also get a little more desperate, they haven't been to the playoffs in awhile or other teams in their division make a trade to improve, they get more desperate - more demand. And once a few trades get made, the supply goes down, less players available at that position. Supply and demand.
  5. Its simple supply and demand, demand will LOTS higher in July. And if one of those veterans is 'hot' and has 20 home runs they're worth a lot more than right now. Same for the pitchers.
  6. By July the demand for veteran players may be higher from teams fighting for a playoff spot. Or a team that has an injury. Plus playoff contenders are ALWAYS looking for pitching help.
  7. My guess is that Terry sticks around until the team is competitive again, which means several more years.
  8. I timed my evening last night to mow and listen to the Twins game because I knew Berrios was pitching, I really wanted to hear how he did. I used to do the same when Johan would pitch, I made sure I tuned in because you knew you were listening to something special and the Twins had a good chance to win that night. After they were down 8-0 I actually turned it over to rock and roll. Then during the ads I'd swap back to the Twins for a few minutes. Ah a two run homer, down 8-2. Back to R&R and Alice Cooper. Next time I tuned in it was 8-4! Swell!!! Then they tied it up!!! But still lost What was really disappointing about last night is that even though the Twins are losing you can look forward to the prospects -- and then the best starting prospect gets shelled. And he really hasn't been that good in his previous starts. And the Twins other hot-shot prospect - Buxton - is already back in AAA. Yes I know its a learning experience and hopefully they'll make adjustments and become the stars that we hope but -- its just disappointing. Its going to be a long summer.
  9. Good article Seth. As I drove into work this morning, hearing about another Twins loss, I was thinking "where are all the hot-shot prospects"? I guess patience is in order. It will be an interesting summer. I've said it before and I'll say it again, wins = more fans at Target Field = more $8 beers and $10 brats sold. The reason the Twins don't go all in and play all the prospects is that they would win 60 games for a year or three, and fan attendance would plummet. By keeping a few of the vets around, they can hope for a few more wins, .500 ball, and fans don't totally stay away from Target Field.
  10. So how is Hicks doing with the Yankees??
  11. Thanks for the insights!! Good luck Jose!!!!
  12. If the Twins keep losing a lot of the TD posters are going to start needing two hour appointments!!
  13. That's what baffles me, if he doesn't improve, when May 1 comes around I'd be saying see you later!!!
  14. Good call Seth!!!! Better go buy a lottery ticket!!!
  15. People need to calm down, the Twins aren't going to be making any big changes after 7 games. As others have mentioned, I hope they give Kepler some consistent playing time while he's here, take the opportunity to see what he can do. Then when Santana comes back, if Kepler is playing well, send either Rosario or Buxton or Park down. Or two of the three and bring up Mastro.
  16. In order for those young arms to be called up -- the ones on the current roster need to get injured - or fail. So if 3-4 of them get called up this years it means the Twins aren't going to do very well.....
  17. Here in MN he was a head case, so inconsistent but you knew with the talent that he had that he'd go someplace and succeed. There was an interesting article in SI a few weeks back about the Pittsburgh pitching coach, his pitching philosophies, and the players whose careers he's resurrected.
  18. I have a boss that pizzed me off about 7 years ago, since then she's finally learned how to be a real supervisor but some day I will be telling her what I think of her so yeah I could see how Ortiz would carry a grudge. At this point we know that when Ortiz talks about the Twins its going to be a rip so we just have to shake your head, laugh, and move on. Kind of like when some of the TD posters consistently bitch about Twins management, you read their rant, shake your head, laugh, and move onward.
  19. Good article Nick!!! Thanks!!! Its too bad that Duffy didn't pitch better and make the decisions tougher but in the long run this will work out better for the Twins, and that's the type of long range decisions that GM's need to make.
  20. When you bring in your long reliever, a guy like 'Ol Chicken Breasts', you're saving your short relievers for a future game so he HAS provided a valuable service to the team, even though he is vastly overpaid while doing it. Not a very glamorous role, hopefully not needed very often, but it can help with future victories by keeping your short guys from wearing down.
  21. If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. That goes for people in a high stress job in the corporate world or a teacher in an inner city school or football/basketball/baseball players, they're in the spotlight, not every article written about them is going to be sugar and cream. Sano will be fine but rest assured he probably won't be having a beer with Reusse any time soon.
  22. Poor Mr. Duffy!!!! I think that people hate Nolasco so bad that it clouds their vision on what Duffy didn't do, and that's EARN a job in the rotation.
  23. My concern with Perkins is that as a long term member of the Twins they won't remove him as the closer until he's blown 6-7-8 games.... Those lost games could loom large come September. I'm going to pick Park as the biggest bust, a couple times around the league, they'll figure him out, I'm predicting <15 home runs.
  24. I disagree, he laid a goose egg and gets a free trip to Rochester as a reward.
  25. Plus Reusse has been around forever and goes to spring training every year, I'm sure he has a few inside contacts that will feed him info, he probably knows a lot more than the writers here on TD sitting behind their keyboards. That said, I don't know why I'm defending him, I can't stand listening to him, but he does write a few good articles. People also need to realize that the way writers get read is to write something controversial, but in this case I think there is a little smoke rising from the fire.
