  1. I think the trading of Plouffe and Dozier have a lot higher priority than trading Suzuki, mainly because of the people playing behind them, Sano and Polanco, they need to play. Catcher is a position where the backup plays more often, you can 'justify' sitting the starter. Zuk cools off, Murphy stays hot, gets called up mid-July and plays 50% of the time. My odds of the three getting traded by the deadline: Plouffe - 50% Suzuki - 10% Dozier - 5% The odds of all three getting traded - 1.25% Not saying what they should do, but what will happen.
  2. I'd like to give you a Like here but I don't like it!!! But I agree with you, marketing plays a big part in their decisions, they want to keep selling $8 beers and $10 hot dogs at Target Field.
  3. This. I would say its 50/50 that he gets traded before the deadline. Ryan is loyal to a fault but even he sees that the future of this team Sano, and not in the outfield. Trading away your 'excess' for other parts you need is how you get better. Third base has an excess. Same with second. Yes Dozier is young enough to be part of a future winning Twins team, so then trade Polanco, before he stagnates on the bench next year and his value goes down. Back to Doc's original question, yes its a good thing that these players get hot, it increases their trade value. Plouffe or Dozier could help a contending team that needs help in the infield. What we need is for two teams to think that and hope they'll get in a bidding contest. Supply and demand.
  4. How would you like to be Molitor?? "Terry, I need somebody else, we can't keep dipping into the bullpen by the 4th innning!!! Duffey needs to go back to AAA for some head shrinking!!!" Terry -- "I don't have anybody better to call up" Paul -- "nobody better than Duffey, a guy that can't go 4 innings??!!!!!! (*&^%$^&" Terry, to himself -- "better hide the razor blades".
  5. You're really setting yourself up for disappointment if the standard is TR trading 4 players!!!
  6. You're right its not an ideal situation but the person thats hot deserves to play and the cold one has earned the bench seat. A few days on the bench wouldn't hurt any one of the four -- learn by watching and have some incentive/motivation to work harder in BP and film study. And hopefully this situation only goes on until the trade deadline, when Plouffe is traded. Thats less than 6 weeks away.
  7. Good informative article Seth!!! You'd hope the coaches throughout the system would be preaching 'good at bats' and 'we're not going to promote you even if you're hitting .400 if you're striking out a lot.' Rosario got by with his free swinging with no incentive to change, until he flunked out at the highest level.
  8. You have four players - Mauer, Plouffe, Park, Sano - for three positions - DH, 3rd, 1st - it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to make it work. You'd always have a good bench bat and it wouldn't hurt any of them to get a day off every fourth day. Maybe they'd learn something by just sitting and watching, especially Sano and Park. Maybe a day or two of sitting on the bench would give them some motivation to work a little harder. Sano is coming off an injury, two days on and one day off for awhile wouldn't hurt. Make it work, its not rocket science.
  9. You don't do number 2 until you are contending and you need the one stud starter to get you to the WS. The biggest problem of this team is starting pitching that doesn't give you enough innings, so the bullpen gets way overused, leading to poor performances by them. My vote would be number 1 AND any trades that they make to get rid of the veterans would include more young starting pitching in return.
  10. He's getting paid $6.5 million this year and next, this injury will give him more incentive to save and invest wisely, and if he's already been talking retirement at the end of this contract, this injury spells The End. He'll get the surgery done, do some rehab, make it sound like he's trying to rehab (and earn his money), but unless it goes really well, I don't think we'll see him on the mound at Target Field again.
  11. Thats why you read internet blogs with a grain of salt - or better yet a tablespoon of salt.
  12. If Dozier gets traded and Polanco plays the rest of this year and next, and flops (or gets hurt), whos next? Who plays second? Not trying to be negative here, just curious, because I do think that Dozier should be traded - for starting pitching!!! I think Plouffe gets traded first, and soon, to make room for Sano.
  13. Arcia -- very piss poor defense and not hitting enough to beat out Kepler or Grossman. What does that say about him?????????????
  14. Rameriz has failed with two others teams, this year already, and he's more important than one of your top relief prospects??!!!!! Sign him to a AAA contract and give Chargois at least a week. Or bring up someone else.
  15. You would hope that management would learn something from the Arcia mess, that they need to play these players more before they run out of options, to find out what they have.
  16. Yes you are probably right, I heard TR talking about Chargois and his poor debut, TR admitted that he was probably rushed, that he could have used more AAA experience. Speaking of Chargois, I thought it was pretty rude to send him down right away. That's how you make them into head cases. At least give him a few more appearances, let him get some bullpen experience, give him a chance to pitch when he's not so nervous, give him a chance to learn a few things. What did he learn from his one and done?? Nothing. It will just put more pressure on him the next time he's up. 'I better perform or I'll be sent back down'.
  17. Nice list, I guess I should be optimistic, but the ones that have made their debuts so far - Buxton, Berrios, Chargois, Kepler - really haven't done much. Not even looking for All-Stars, just average ML players, but right now they're just suspect prospects. When was the last time the Twins had a prospect come up and be a star?? Mauer? When was the last pitcher that came up and became a star? Perkins?? Big gap between stars. I guess it just goes to show how tough it is but its hard for me to be optimistic when even the top prospects are floundering. And the ones below them are years away. Maybe I'm just down on the Twins right now.
  18. Liriano was a head case, I was happy to see him go.
  19. This was a depressing read. You wonder how much the lack of PED's is affecting Santana?? We need Gibson to get healthy and start giving us 7 innings. Come on Berrios, we need you badly!!! If those three would perform up to their abilities, then you could fill in the other two spots with the upcoming AAA guys, Nolasco, Hughes, Milone. If not, then 2017 will be as bad as this year.
  20. Thanks Seth!!! Nice list and very encouraging at this discouraging Twins time.
  21. Its going to be interesting between now and the trade deadline. The problem is, how many veterans has Terry Ryan traded away in past years before the deadline?? Not very many.... Also, can you get more for a player now or closer to the deadline, when teams are desperate and the available players thin out?
  22. I've always shook my head about that!!! WTF??! What kind of reports were they getting from his time in AA and AAA?? Then try to teach him a new position while he is in the major leagues!!! A head shaker for sure!!
  23. Dave!!! A positive post!!!! Welcome to the dark side!!!
  24. From a Twins standpoint, I hope he's done. At this point they needed strong leadership -- and he failed miserably. Get him to rehab, give him a job somewhere, let his work his way back but the Twins are in dire straights right now, This is the last thing they need!!!!!!!!!!! There should be a penalty for what he did.to the Twins.
