  1. At 13 million a year versus 5, Jackson should well have a record better than Correia. At 13 mil a year you should have a 1 or a 2 type performance, not a back of rotation.
  2. Jackson is not doing much, Better in July Baker injured Feldman traded for 2 prospects that have gone backwards in their career Fujukawa has a 5.25 ERA 12 IP for 9 million Villanueva. back in the pen after a nice start, 6.48 ERA in July What is so great about the Cubs off season in terms of pitching? Schierholtz is having a career year as a corner outfielder, Navaro is a good backup catcher.
  3. For the 3000 topic I expected something more. Then I realized that bloggers can have the same kind of year the Twins are.
  4. 1. Other teams know you are selling and know what you have. 2. Look at the haul Miami got by aggressively bundling and marketing their players.
  5. Ryu was seen as more as a reliever by some. Although 19 games is only a start of a career, not enough to judge with his stuff to see if it will work. Others can feel free to tell me how little I know of Ryu. Considering various points made on this thread I would conclude something Oxtung might even agree with me on. For various debateable reasons, if the Twins do not want to gamble on a mid level free agent elevating their game, or a high level free agent maintaining, you might aas well invest in the younger professional international players. In terms of posting fees, the team with the most money wins. With the Cubans, try to collect them.
  6. In regards to people talking past each other. If we were all sitting together there would be a beter chance to come to an agreement. In regards to will the Twins sign a top tier free agent. Pavano was free to go anywhere. He chose to stay. Willingham willing came here. He was not scrap heap. It depends on what is available and what the need is. god coner outfielder/1B type is generlly easier to find at a reasonable price than any other position. If money in the contract was the only factor, the process to sign would be easy. It is not. Ryan has to have a plan has to consider overspending for next year. IsPelfrey gong from part of the problm to part of the solution. Only saw a box score.
  7. Really? How about giving them credit for knowing who not to sign? Give them a little credit for having a scouting department. Considering the many negative comments in regards to those they did sign I find this comment a bit disingenuous.
  8. Delmonico was nearing being a top 100. Burton might net a 150-200 if a team is desperate. If the Twins are looking at a AA/AAA kind of prospect, near 200 ranking. If Fien continues to progress he could get something useful next year in return. Perkins has a better record over the last two years so a much better prospect and throw ins would be expected. Decline to comment if that would be a good idea to trade Perkins.
  9. For 2015 it would be a reasonable thing to do.
  10. Chris Carpenter had a similar procedure last July and is not back, likely done. Bonderman took 2 years to come back. Noah Lowry ended up done.
  11. You are right. by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4:57 pm ET) The Mets announced Tuesday they placed starting pitcher Shaun Marcum on waivers for the purpose of his unconditional release. Marcum is out for the season after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. Marcum is being released because of a different pay scale for being with the team as opposed to being on the disabled list, according to ESPN.
  12. Contending, not winning. A team that has assembled 5 position players in their prime who were all stars would cause one to think if they are not injured they should have a pretty good team. There was also some dude named Kershaw to be the star pitcher. Nice disregard in how the past actions in where he would select to be traded to would indicate what he thinks. If you want to believe that Grienke would go to a different team if they had offered $1 million more than the Dodgers that is fine. I see no past action on his part that would indicate that. If you want to believe he had something to lose making that comment, fine.
  13. He made the comments with the only thing to gain is by defining his role with the team. Make Zach Greinke money. Why did Grienke demand to be traded out of KC with a list of teams that he did not want, and could not be, to be traded to? Past actions would indicate being on a competitive team is what he wants. That is not inside information. That has been published. It is not a stretch or a twist.
  14. There is not a Twin player that is not available for another team to trade for. The limit becomes value to the Twins vs what is offered in trade. Very few players may be more valuable to the other team than they are to the Twins.
  15. Grienke made the statement well after he signed with full knowledge of what teams bid for his services. You can make that kind of statement when the only teams bidding for your services are competitive. It also allows him to sidestep any leadership role as he is there only for the money. Baseball teams don't need players to be leaders, right.
  16. The results of the pitching performances of the free agents show how wrong it is to think it would be or will be easy to improve the pitching through free agency
  17. They probably wanted Benson not Hicks. All this is speculation without any basis. It is fantasy wishing of what if.
  18. If you could have a crystal ball to tell when the decline starts for players. Relievers age well. the guess for everyone else is just that.
  19. Objectively if money were not an issue, how good of prospect would you be getting? So you want to pay up to 6 million for a not very good prospect? That makes no sense
  20. Have the Twins become historically bad at developing infielders or what?
  21. Unless some coach or manager thinks they know the answer to where to find Morneau's lost power I don't think there will be much of a market. It has been a few years for the power numbers.
  22. A starting rotation of Liriano, Dickey, Gaza, Lohse, and Marquis. Ramos, Garrett Jones, Cuddy, Hardy, Valencia, Span, Revere, Gomez, Hunter, and Kubel. Bullpen is Breslow, Crain, Balfour, Guerier, Mijares (lefty)and Nathan. National league team since that is where most players went to . Cuddyer would have to try 2b again. Joe Benson, Delmon Young and Nishi on the bench just to irritate some people. Payroll at about 120 million.
  23. Todd Jones must have hated his time with the Twins. When he was doing a column for the Sporting News he took as many rips on them as he could. The Twins let him go as a FA after that half season. From fading recollection, I don't ever remember him being that good. In his own mind from the columns you would have thought he was Sparky Lyle.
  24. How many ballplayers talk about wanting to win. How many of them talk about it sucks to lose. How big of salary increase would it take to get you to move to California? Losing cuts the pool of available players. Winning does overcome a negative environment. See Detroit
  25. In addition to the Perkin;s quote I also like Bernadino line on they probably wouldn't trade him without an in house option in mind. Tonkin perhaps? I really doubt that they are going to get offered 50% more than his value. If the Phillies trade Papelbon sooner rather than later it would be easier to speculate on Perkin's trade value.
