  1. What is penurious about not overpaying for a mediocre corner outfielder/DH.
  2. I heard it from a friend who heard from a friend who heard it from another…… the talk is cheap if the story is good
  3. I a not sure but when a team trades a player and picks up most of the salary I don’t think that player was anything more than the other team dumping a player. Still people will say DeScalfini was brought here for a purpose or was the centerpiece of the trade The Max Kepler non trades resurface once again. He was a 1,5- 2 war player. In what universe does that net anything bit a lotto ticket? There are really only 4 veteran players the Twins could trade. One has a no trade clause. To trade them for prospect like Miami does is not the way to build anything.
  4. Time number four for attempting to post this as this site continues to have a problem with my server Briefly. Regression exists. Feel free to show me it doesn’t. You responded about injuries this year when the conversation was about next season. You are correct. The injuries could well affect the team next year and cause decline. That wasn’t the intent of your comment, but it is accurate for the situation. The Guardians’ pitching injuries are there as a problem. All it takes is a look. If they have a problem, they don’t have a backup. That is what happened to both Detroit and the Twins. The Twins had Michael Taylor, Manuel Margot (who was decent in Tampa) and Bader as backups for Buxton. Pretty disingenuous to use Outman and Keirsey as an argument. The FO has made efforts to have a decent backup. If Martin’s post deadline play is an accurate reflection of his talent, neither Keirsey nor Outman would be the backup plans. Why did you forget that Martin plays center field?
  5. If the draft pick was a lottery pick the team should care. The end of the first round picks, second round picks are a bit of luck. Jeffers and Keaschall good luck, Miller, Sabato, bad luck On the other hand. No pick is no luck
  6. Contention for what? Central division is always in reach barring multiple issues with the core. Both Santana and Hoskins are done. Father Time caught Carlos, Hoskins hasn’t been the same since he was injured. ACL I think.
  7. There is nothing in their history that says Detroit abd Cleveland will return to the top of the division. Cleveland blows through pitchers arms. Detroit got career years out of several players. If enough of the ifs go the Twins way they can be competitive in the division They also could go the other direction A case can be made for each.
  8. Laweryson has a mid 90s FB, his secondary pitch are a cutter and a change. He doesn’t appear to be a command pitcher. He got by in his 7 innings by unfamiliarity. That only works for a short time
  9. Shane Smith was an all star yet received only one down the ballot ROY vote. Just a reminder that somebody had to be the All Star on a team. Batters below the AAA level may be drafted but rarely are kept. Baddoo might have been the last one. Useful, but not a loss to the system. The roster sits at 33. If the top 6 are kept that leaves little room to add relief pitchers. I don’t think they would go with that many RP who are not established. One of Krieder or Fitzgerald would have to go. Adding Klein would mean someone like Adam’s is cut and they plan on using him in relief .Fedko had one good year in the minors. If he or Rosario are protected it would be at the expense of Keirsey and McCusker. When the list of who gets announced there will be a lot of words said here in the oh no variety/ At the end of spring training there will either be trades or returns I would guess they keep the first 6 mentioned and Klein.
  10. Which player was blocked by a veteran? I do not think the answer should be a player the team could have found out that they were worse than mediocre except for the veteran player
  11. I suppose it depends on the start date of the contract. If the contracts are for January to January, Watkins is still an employee and would need permission to look for a new job. The Twins did not release or fire him.
  12. There is an Atlanta site saying that they want Watkins for bench coach
  13. Thought the complaint was usually the stop sign that was out
  14. Tony might still be able to hit the ball as well as many of the current Twins but I don’t think he could walk fast enough to get to first base in time. Hr would truly be a 3 outcome hitter
  15. That was not an encouraging article. Lee spends the off season working on speed and agility, Culppper rises fast, or the Twins have an old fashioned no hit defensive whiz shortstop.
  16. Where is the article that mentions Vasquez, Kiersay or Outman as a number 3 hitter? Was it in the Just for Fun section?
  17. Larnach is not a superior hitter in any given year in the majors unless he was a catcher. That is why he is a non tender candidate. It is likely he will be tendered because of the uncertainty of the prospects, the lack of production inSSS of Roden, a lack of faith Martin is the player he was in September, and the belief they can fix Outman Jenkins did not thrive in 100 PA in St Paul, it may take him a while to learn. It has been the first level he has been tested. Gonzales on the other hand in his 150 PA did do well. Lee in this off season needs to work on speed. Faster feet, faster hands. The standby line of development is not linear comes to mind. So does the Peter Principle. It would be reasonable to think that the Twins looked at all of the footage and metrics of his good run of hitting versus what he has done since. Maybe his off season hitting coach will tell him the same things the Twins have told him. There was a report on this site that Lewis refused to change what he was doing. If he does not change there will not be a 3 spot for him. The default then is Keaschall.
  18. I am not the gloom and doom, everyone is horrible person. I am not the one who cannot tell the difference Ben can and is. I am not the one who brought in fielding into points about hitting
  19. To answer the wonder there are a few thoughts 1, the pitchers want to get out, worry about the medical later 2. Ucl repair is more successful than it used to be 3. The raising of the seams made it easier to throw The author touched on it oh so briefly, a bad splitter is batting practice but in a day and age where some pitched have seen increased use, the splitter is not as familiar to the batter so that helps the effectiveness.
  20. He said a lot about the process of his coaching and did identify the likely problem.
  21. Eeyores do go to great lengths.for their viewpoints.
  22. If you have amassed 400K it is dumb luck if it was done with short term thinking.
  23. Stand where you like, your opinion on who is in the bullpen is your opinion
