    There is a lot of season left. When clubs get done selling assets it might be hard for a team to tank when Atlanta, the Reds, Brewers, Rays are done. The White Sox, Angels, Arizona and San Diego could also implode. That would be a lot of bad teams. I seem to recall a lot of past Twins teams giving hope for the future with a strong second half . I also think Molitor is too much of a competitor to tank

    Andy McPhail went from genius in Minnesota to idiot in Chicago. Sandy Alderson has been from genius to bum and back. Time will tell if the "bold" move of Larussa's hiring shows much. Glen Taylor got rid of the country club and ended up with Kahn. Outside isn't always better. If Antony is auditioning the first thing he better do is bring in a mind that understands pitching as an assistant, special assistant and/or minor league pitching directory. After that, if he can sell his organizational philosophy to Pohlad and get a job, he probably wouldn't have a hard time selling players on Minnesota. He wouldn't have to complain about not being able to give money away.

    To make a big trade Ryan would be trading highly ranked prospects or first and second year players. That is not, has not nor will ever be Ryan's method of doing things. Anything else the Twins have to trade would not fall into the big trade category

    What changed is the regression of talent and the inability to fix it. Minor league players being undisciplined and looking like they were not coachable. Health concerns undetected for longer than they should be piled up. When they looked at what wasn't working it was called the minor league development model. It needed changing. The changes made last offseason in someone's eyes was not improving the product. Dave St. Peter's title and what he does are 2 different things. In the actual baseball operations the Twin's GM is what many other organizations call the president of baseball operations. That is what Pohlad must have figured out be reading mlb.com's front office information. It doesn't mean anything in terms of what St Peter does, titles will shift.

    The 2008 56th best by B.A. would be a worse prospect. A 22 year old Drew Pomeranz was the 61 in 2011 and moved up. The riskier the prospect, the better it is when it works out.

    Players under team control are much cheaper. Before you say Jepson remember that he was dur to be a free agent after this season.

    They had Tulo on the market for months. It wasn't about the money, it was about getting the best possible prospects back. They traded a star, they needed a future star

    Oakland is a good example what happens when you go all in and fail. Going all in when starting with 2 cards not of the same color, low, and not near each other is a fool's bet.

    For the most part it is success after changing organizations several times and several years. In 2020 with 20/20 hindsight maybe Arcia will head your list

    They are 7-2 in their last nine games. If they continue that pace they will finish above .500. Well above .500. Before you post a retort, remember that this thread is supposed to be all in fun.

    Catching throughout the league is bad. OF defense it depends on what metric you like. Kepler, Buxton and Rosario have the range, but DRS does not seem to like them. MI, might take 2 more years for Gordon. Polanco should be up. Pohlad said something like they are looking at what they are doing wrong. Ryan has to come up with an answer. If the answer does not satisfy Pohlad, Ryan goes. If there are no changes in the minor league structure then they would be depending on the staff to change how they do business. The general public will probably never find out what they discuss but unlike the pas Twins, no one would call the current group well versed in fundamentals and defense. The other side of the coin is that decent offense gets you to the majors.

    Then when you say that "this was not happy inducing" your fun is not being happy? 7-2 in their last 9, on pace now to finish above .500. That should make you less unhappy

    Depends on what kind of numbers you want to look at. Danks had a much higher ERA than Nolasco does. 246 pitchers so far have started a game so far this year in the majors. By ERA, 87 of them have fared worse than Nolasco. By SIERRA, there are 137 worse. By fWAR, 196 of them have fared worse than Nolasco. That is why they don't just release him. He is not bad enough to do that. As it is, they still have had worse production from the 5th starter position. There is still some value there. More if someone looks at WAR and FIP and not LOB%. If Dean/Milone had pitched better then the team has to consider their options.

    Did not say do not make a trade. The near major league ready prospect hunkering down at the bottom of some preseason list may not have the upside of a lower level prospect. At this point I would rather see a prospect with great potential than a prospect with a higher flow but not much higher than that ceiling. I would rather see the Twins pick up multiple prospects that gain their way up the list. Milton and Ortiz were not ranked prospects when obtained.

    Didn't you complain about too many DH types on the construction of the roster? Actually Santana and one of those numerous prospects for Swihart might be a win/win situation.

    Don't be swayed by the term top 100 prospect. History is littered with failed top 100 prospects. Matt Gamel, Tomas Neal Nick Hagadone types excite you? Nick Blackburn, Phil Humber, Guerra? Near ready top 100 prospects that fizzled. Santana is what he is. A couple of high ceiling young top 100 prospects one could get excited about. More cup of coffee players, not so much.

    What any player and the team is on pace for is utterly meaningless .81 games in and 4 players have played in 3/4 of the games One of those for players is now in the minors. Starting pitching, Nolasco is the only pitcher to make their scheduled. Santana has missed a few. The roster is in flux. Projections of the team are meaningless. Projection on what the players may do is subject to flux. Your own comment on Dozier shows that.

    Deron Johnson does the drafting. Granted it is under the direction of the GM, but Ryan has said he has left the decisions up to him. Same guy for both Smith and Ryan, just getting smarter.

    The alternatives were what? With that defense they have have had the last few years you would need to have a pitcher with a double digit k/9 to be effective. Maybe you all would rather just have a staff of Walters, Albers, Hendrik and Vasquez. At least there was a chance with a better starting point. Yes there is a risk of injury and decline. Actual decline varies from player to player and types of injury.

    He has an .815 ops. and a 7.7 bb% this year. Either the 5-10 is way generous or the 155 is low. He does't look 30 pounds lighter than Escobar (b ref lists him at 185) Esobar, though as a 150# prospect hicagonow.com/future-sox/files/2012/01/Escobar.jpg
