  1. I also agree on Melotakis, believe he will get a chance to go north, and if he does not expect he would be one of the early callups depending on how he does in Rochester. Way early for a lot of the young players to be given up on. Still think the Twins farm system is good, just a lot more of it in the lower minors than upper, except for pitching.
  2. At this time I would take Greene unless during the next 4 months a college pitcher develops to where they are considered a sure #2 with #1 upside. It is a crap shoot, but talent will win out most of the time. Other issue I see is the mental side, what is between the ears and how willing the prospect is to do the work and put in the time to become great. That is something only the scouts will know from talking to the prospect.
  3. Do not know if Hildenberger should start in Chatanooga, but might be the third or fourth option in Rochester, depending on how many upper level relief pitchers start in Rochester. Maybe Twins need to clear the traffic jam this year, and by the end of the year remove those relievers that are AAAA material. (Burdi, Reed, Jones, Light, Tonkin) etc. Depends on who starts where as to where Hildenberger starts. Hope we have a shuttle as many of these need to be seen in Minnesota so we will know who will be there for the next few years.
  4. All these guys are relievers Pitchers that is.
  5. I think the Rays knew what the deal was a week or two ago. It was then just a case if the Twins would cave. They did not cave so the Dodgers finally pulled the trigger on the deal they knew they had.
  6. If you do not trade Dozier, you run with Polanco at SS for the first half of the year. Only issue comes if he cannot handle it, and has to be a super utility player. Still think there is a chance that Dozier will be traded, but it is not the end of the world if he is not. Other point is if Twins do well and Dodgers get off to a bad start. Things can change in a hurry.
  7. Pitchers tend to move up quicker from AA because "stuff" plays. However do not see more than 1-2 of the current bullpen staff would be on a team that makes a noise in the playoffs. So signing 1-2 relievers on 1 -2 year deals and letting them battle it out would not hurt this club. As long as the deals are not big buck(though I would love Holland on a 2 year deal with no opt out), you are not blocking anyone as you can always either flip(if they are doing well and you need the spot), or just cut bait.
  8. Hope he can return at full strength. See it to believe it, don't hold your breath.
  9. Playing Joe 4-5 days a week should work. That will give Park and Grossman(if he is on the team) plenty of AB's vs LHP. Just pick your spots. Did not see an analysis of day vs night games. That would also be useable information. I would tell Joe this was the plan before spring training. He may change his mind on some things if he does not like it. Hopefully he retires or agrees to waive his no trade clause. I doubt this will happen, but we all should be aware that the best young manager in the system the Twins have is his brother Jake. Twins might not want to ruin that relationship if they make a change.
  10. Wheeler is about right, depth filler at AAA. Rest are all lower round draft picks, hope 1 clicks, nice list.
  11. It is way too early to judge this front office at this time. That is a 2-3 year thing. Improvements to the pitching staff will make a big difference. We shall see where it goes.
  12. According to (I believe it was on ESPN 1500) Levine spoke of some big moves next week, give it some time. Hasty moves are almost always the worst.
  13. Expect some of the arms were added in case Berrios and others were not ready to start the season. Expect Santana, Santiago, Dozier and others to be traded if the Twins get off to a bad start. Front office will not wait as long to pull the trigger this year(hopefully). Being first in the selloff has its advantages.
  14. Grossman still has value here as a platoon player for either Rosario or Kepler against tough lefties. If Front office does not add relief pitching could see a number of the close arms, Burdi, Hildenberger, Reed, or evan Duffey moved to the pen in this year.
  15. I still feel that Dozier will be traded, injuries do happen in spring training and players do not pan out in the early going. Neil Walker may not come back from his injury, Dodgers 2B players may stink up the joint. If offer was lowball, and it seems like many writers feel it was, than it is possible the Twins could get a better offer if something goes wrong with a contender early in the year. Twins have a lot of starting pitcher talent in the minor leagues, just not top end except for Romero and possibly Jay. Otherwise would like to see them sign some relievers to take the pressure off the starting pitching and shorten the game by having a great to very good bullpen.
  16. I think English will start at Ft. Myers and without improvement will likely be only filler or released at some point. Rest were interesting and will be good to follow for how they do at higher levels. I would push Cederoth only based on draft round and the fact he needs to get moving. Most of these might be slower due to the origination wanting them to have fastball control more than results.
  17. Do not see the love lost here. Would expect Park and Mauer to platoon with Vargas maybe making the club as a RH first baseman and parttime DH. Depends on a Dozier trade on how this shakes out.
  18. You still have Escobar and if you don't like that you have Vielma, he may not hit, but he sure can field. Do not see an issue here. Gordon may surprise us and make the Twins out of spring training. Twins has Gonsalves, Stewart, Jay at AA, those are all prospects, but the large number that pitched some for the Twins. Do not believe the starting staff will be worse. If you can add good prospects to this pool fine, but don't buy the belief you have to deal to make a deal. If we stay pat, would like to add 2 reasonable bullpen arms to help out with the transition. Holland might be the best, but he will be expensive and doubt he would sign here. Feliz could be another option, or some of the AAA pitchers could turn out OK. Until you play them in Minnesota, you will not know what you have. All this and a high upside starter in the draft, you could still be fine.
  19. Just your game of chicken, though I still somewhat believe the offer is closer to what DaveW claims it is, than what national media is saying. Dodgers have a huge hole at 2B. They would like to fill it cheap, is not going to happen and it may not be Dozier, but there is more pressure on the Dodgers than on the Twins to make it happen. Giants have improved, as have some other clubs. Don't forget that if Dodgers fall behind early and have issues with LHP that the pressure will be intense and prices will go very high for any fix. My guess is the Dodgers make a move before spring training, they are just waiting for the prices to drop.
  20. Still want prospects, But Dodger bosses do not like trading propects. This may take until just before spring training to clarify the positions. 2B(right handed hitter) is still the Dodgers biggest need and options here for them are not good.
  21. Tend to agree that the Cardinal offer is still light, no need for Wong. Can move Polanco to second and have Gordon up a year early or use Escobar and Vielma or Dan San for next year. Twins have little need for #3, #4 starter types, we have plenty. So for me to make any deal work would be the upside of the top piece or the inclusion of more than 1 lottery ticket. Lot more to be played.
  22. Twins position future looks fine to me. It is the pitching that needs a lot of work(or a lot of money). All of the above are in my plans for the future(with the exception of Murphy(possibly)). 2 years from now this will be a very good lineup, hope we have the pitching to match.
  23. Twins have multiple bullpen options(Duffey, Chaigos, Jay(if he does not make it as a starter), Reed, Melokias(bad spelling I know), and several others. If all fails build the shutdown bullpen, if covers a great number of starting pitcher sins. One other good thing, managers have not figured out yet how to play against it. Look at it this way, how would Madden have to manage if he was looking at a bullpen that would only give up a run 50% of the time after they appeared in the 6th inning. It would change how you managed the game as you would have to be tied, ahead, or at worse 1 run behind starting the 6th inning.
  24. I also wish May could be a reliever, but his back issue scare me. I see him as a #4-#5 starter with a chance to be a #3. Should be in rotation to start with Duffy moving to the pen(as suggested above). Rest depends on whether Dozier is traded and which close to major league starter comes back. More likely I see that person in the rotation, with Berrios in AAA with the task of learning fastball command(and will several of the rest of the close Twins starters). Otherwise why would you keep Allen as the pitching coach, when his philosophy did not mix with the rest of the orgainization.
  25. I agree, you have to add 2-3 new arms(with higher ceilings) then the Twins currently have(not counting Romero, who seems to have the biggest upside). I would be very surprised if the Twins won more that 75 games this year, even with Dozier. To me the difference between 70 and 75 does not exist. The only chance to compete is to add, pitching, pitching and more pitching. Twins have enough position players to compete at this level, and you can use money to fill holes next offseason. Price of pitching is only going up and if Twins cannot get it cheap, they will not be able to contend by 2018-2019, with Pohlad giving 1-2 massive contracts to top of the line starters(very unlikely in my opinion).
