  1. I expect Sano to start next year in AAA and be up in about June, I expect Buxton to start in AA and be up between July and September based on how he adjusts. Agree with the service time issue of why start service time if the rotation gives us no chance to be competitive. That would have to be addressed before I would start the service time clock early.
  2. I agree that Meyer and May will start in AAA. The big reason I do not think that above will be the starting rotation is the need to fill the seats. I believe the Twins cannot do that without signing some decent FA pitchers. Maybe they will not take the money, but most of the Twins starting pitcher types are 2-3 years away and most of the Twins young hitting prospect will be here by 2015. Twins need a bridge until the pitching catches up. Beyond that it is possible the Morneau bridge has been burnt and the Twins need to see what Parmelle and Collabero can produce. Clete Thomas is not the answer, though I believe Hicks will start next year in AAA.
  3. I do not see Hendriks as a long term solution. September starts will not make a difference, since many of the teams the Twins will see are conducting auditons also and Hendriks has gotten many of the AAA hitters out. I would rather see the Twins throw Pressley into the rotation and see how he does. Give Hendriks one more change in the spring and then, if he does not make it, expect to lose him at the end of next year. At least he will help Rochester.
  4. I do not see the difference. Morneau is saying the correct things, but I wonder if the bridges have already been burnt when the Twins refused to meet on an extension. Morneau may decide to play for less money on a team that is a contender and the Twins will have nothing in return for him. I know if I was treated that way, I would certainly consider it.
  5. May need to resign he as Twins have few options in the next 2 years. Parmelle looks like a AAAA player. See if the price is decent, maybe he will give a hometown discount.
  6. I believe the Twins did try to sign him in the offseason and Frankie wanted to go elsewhere. Do not blame TR for this one.
  7. Am not concerned by Gibson's issues up here . Will be more concerned if they continued next year.
  8. At the going rate Gardy probably will not make it. September should be harder than August and Twins are not doing well in the part of the schedule, they had a chance to make ground in. Do not know if his record merits a reup as team without changes seems to be fading.
  9. Not an unreasonable lineup, still need starting pitching and should have the money to sign some.
  10. I am in favor of Josh Johnson and do not think he will be that expensive. Linecum probably will be expensive, but I feel is worth the risk. A lot of the rest of the free agent pitchers will not be worth the money they will get.
  11. I think we should send him through waivers and see who claims him and what they want to pay. We can always pull him back. Any player that can bring back projectable starting pitching should be available for trade as an option.
  12. Colabello would get my vote. Is near the top in most categories despite spending about a month in the majors.
  13. Twins have plenty of players on their 40 man roster that could be released if need be. Some of them probably will be this offseason. Or non-tendered.
  14. I believe that if Poland tells Ryan to fire Gardy, Ryan will retire again and then Gardy will be fired. Will that be any better, probably not. Next year will be another small increment year unless 2 of the upper FA pitchers are signed. 2015 is the first realistic year Twins may be .500 with addition of FA pitchers. My main reason for believing they will sign the pitchers is money. Twins could be looking at an 80% retention rate of season ticket holders unless some excitement is generated. Looking at about the same starting staff will not do it.
  15. Linecum and Johnson. Take a chance. Will probably cost around $22 million a year for the pair. Will see how close I am after they sign. Otherwise take a chance at Johan if the price is right on a one year deal.
  16. Will have to prove himself in AAA next year to get my vote.
  17. I think a few months at AAA would not hurt. If he tears up AAA by late May or June then call him up. He is a part of the future of this ball club. I would not give him a September call up, Plouffe needs to play and see what he has for the future. Unless he can move to first, he will be more of a super utility guy after next year(when Buxton arrives)
  18. I think you will see on Saturday and in the future many players swinging at the first pitch. This is what adjustments are about. Will see if it changes things on Saturday.
  19. Nice to see him go to a contender. Would not expect the Twins to resign, so lets get something for him. Too bad though, he was so good at one time.
  20. Morneau would take the qualifying offer, so that is not an option. Hope Twins try and sign him, but do not expect they will pay him what he wants and what another team(Red Sox or Toronto) will offer. Twins need to put money into pitching.
  21. There are no guarantees. However the Twins need at least 2 starting pitchers on the upper end until the prospects arrive in about 3 years. If we plan to be competitive by 2015 it becomes a necessity to sign a couple of these. Doing nothing is not an option if you want to fill the seats. Most of the names above carry some risk. I would prefer Linecum, Johnson, Santana, in that order. Haran is too risky as is Jimmenz.
  22. This deal has no impact on going forward as Carroll was not coming back. Let us focus on what the Twins payroll is for next year so we can start to be competitive.
  23. Thing he may make it back to AA this year. Next year start at AAA and see how he does. May will probably also start next year at AAA.
  24. Agreed, I do not think any of the Twins upper minor league 1B players will be better than Morneau. It all depends on the price. 5 - 6 million a year with some incentives it about all I can see the Twins offering. I would rather see the Twins put the extra money in pitching.
  25. I would take on Johnson or even better Linecum. It will cost money, but Twins may be 3 to 4 years away to bring up developed starting pitching to fill out the rotation. If you figure that unless they resign Pelfrey cheap, next years rotation will look like much of this years. Gibson will be better and hopefully Deduno will be OK, but then you are expected some of Albers, Diamond, Worley, Corriea, Hendricks and others will turn things around. That is a lot to expect and little hope to improve to the top end of the pitching. Pitching wins, look no further than Tampa Bay or San Francisco to prove that. Twins need to sign probably 2 upper level FA pitchers to bridge the next 3-4 years until all the pitchers we can get from the minor leagues will be ready.
