  1. If you want to take a shot try Josh Johnson, better stuff than any above.
  2. He is another #3 or worse starter, Twins have plenty of those.
  3. Johnson would be worthwhile even on a 1 year contract. If you gamble and lose it happens and if you win, you can flip him at the deadline for some very good prospects. He then would not bog down payroll in the succeeding years.
  4. Would hope to see Sano, Rosario, Meyer and May at AAA. See no reason for keeping them at AA. Buxton will probably start at New Britian. Most of the young pitchers should be at Cedar Rapids and I hope most of the relievers will move to New Britian. Should be interesting, but will leave a crowed Rochester Rotation and some of the bodies that started for the Twins this year might be released or outrighted and not resigned,
  5. I think Parmelle is not going to make it with the Twins, do not see a spot for him unless the Twins send Pinto to Rochester for more work. That would leave Doumit, Mauer, and maybe Herrmann to catch and play first base. More likely for me is that Plouffe plays 1B against Lefties and Twins go that way, and if Parmelle is not traded Twins could decide to lose him.
  6. Agreed, I have been pushing his signing for a long time this year. Price seems about right, qualifying offer hopefully will not detour the Twins from this signing
  7. Still believe and hope the Twins wind up with Johnson and another decent FA (please not Hughes). My thoughts C - Pinto 1B - Mauer 2B - Dozier SS - Florimon 3B - Plouffe - at least to start, may well play his way out of a full time starter. LF - Arcia RF - Doumit CF - Pressley DH - Willingham OF - Mastro IF - Escobar IF/OF Parmalee 13 pitchers 1. Corerria 2. Gibson 3. FA - 1 4. FA -2 5. Deduno/Albers/Diamond RP - Perkins RP - Tonkin RP - Thiebar RP - Swarzak RP - Duensing RP - Burton RP - Fien RP - Long relief one of losers for the #5 slot
  8. I think the play here is to have 3-4 top flight starters or 1-3 top flight starters and a very good hitting club with a great bullpen. St. Louis has both, it will be interesting to see if the Twins can step up their front end pitching, in the near future, it means buying FA pitchers on 2-3 year contracts. Hitting will improve hopefully as the better minor league starts come up.
  9. If the Twins do not win Tanaka, I would say go for it. Money needs to be spent to make a splash and Twins need more than 1 new high level starter.
  10. Would prefer Johnson and Lincecum(I know he will have a qualifying offer), but the Twins need quality(Tanaka would be fine also and one lottery pick)
  11. I remember the Twins since 1961 and teams before that(I followed the Dodgers). Lots of ups and downs depending on the budget. Hope the Twins can get front line pitching to make the next run. But still always root for them(though it took a few years to change from the Dodgers, remember Them Bums).
  12. Twins still should take a chance here. Young controllable pitcher at a reasonable yearly cost. Hope the upfront fee does not stop them. Would bid up to a little over $50 million for his rights.
  13. 1 - Twins will bid, but not win. They are according to MLBtraderumors looking at a Korean pitcher now. 2. No way - There are enough catchers to go around 3. Twins will do this - hope it is on 2 good starting pitchers - my bet is 1 from the middle of the pack 4. - No way Sano will come up after the Super Two cutoff if he is doing well in Rochester. 5. - Possible but I think they will pay him A couple of my preditions 1. Twins will sign an international free agent for a goodly sum this winter 2. TR will make at least one trade for a player or pitcher at the major league level 3. Pressley will be sent to Rochester to see if he can be made back into a starter.
  14. Hope to see some of them do really well there. Many off to decent starts. Thanks for the update
  15. Doing little on starting pitching will lead to another 90+ loss season. At least 2 decent (upper middle) starters need to be signed(and this does not include Pelfrey). Anything else risks losing the fan base.
  16. Duensing may not be here next year. So that would open up another reliever arm.
  17. Depends on how the Twins approach next year. Gibson is a lock to be here, most of the rest of the pitching prospects(suspects) should be in Rochester next year. Hitters will start to come up next year, will be more exciting than 2013
  18. Pressley needs to improve to help the Twins. Twins have options at what he does, unless you feel that 2 years of that for cheap money is his career.
  19. One note I picked up. Most of the teams in the Twins payroll mode have at least 3 pitchers that are from the farm system. Only Pittsburg does not have 3 and one of there pitchers came in a trade when they had little or no time in the majors.(Morton) Gist is that pitching still wins and the Twins need to get it to compete.
  20. Want nothing to do with Hart. Hughes would be a good possible signing, if a couple of others do not take Twins offers. Am more interested in Johnson and Lincecum(if not qualified). Maybe bring in one veteran on a chance(Halliday, Haren). Do not bring in any more pitch to contact pitchers as the number 1 or number 2 starter. Do believe in the young starters(not that they are better, but less likely to decline). Draft more high risk, high return high school pitchers(only 1 in 3 or 4 make it anyway, but those who do are the #1 or #2 starters). Spend money on pitching, rest will be fixed in the next two years, Twins will not be able to contend without good starting pitching.
  21. If the Twins offered a posting fee of around $50 and lost, would not feel bad about it, because the effort had been made. Looking at about $110 million over a 5 year period. Better than trading for #3 starting pitching. Tanaka looks like he is a #2 or #3 type, not a #1. Twins need to overpay and gamble a bit. This could be a place to start as I doubt the Twins Cities will become a free agent mecca.
  22. Neither have enough value to be traded this winter. Just hope they get off to good starts next year.
  23. Same as the Twins if they wanted to. According to the source for mlbtraderumors, Cincinnati was going fire Baker's hitting coach and Baker told them to fire him too if they fired the coach, they did. Twins could have gotten the same result by firing Rick Anderson.
  24. Twins will have to spend more money than I think they will to come close to the 3.7 number. You need starters to go 6+ innings for that to happen. Those starters do not come cheap.
  25. I think a little of this is the wait and see. All of us want the Twins to be better, but it is easy to spend the owners money from this vantage point. Pitching will be hard to get in the offseason, but it is possible. And I will be disappointed if we do not sign at least 1 decent (#1 or #2) type starting pitcher.
