  1. I phrased that wrong, I meant (even though he is not great) he is a legit CF. I think that was pretty obvious that no one would claim De Aza was "great" Torii Hunter was a damn good CF and a damn good player, you don't get to 15+ seasons in the big leagues and over 42 WAR he will probably retire with 350+ HR and 2500 hits. Hall of famer no, but much better than what you are claiming he is. De Aza is a guy who will give you 2.5-3.0 WAR a year, that at the very least is a "legit" and capable starting CF
  2. The Twins did the right thing, bringing in Santana on a one year deal would have made no sense (no not because of the draft pick, they would have gotten one back the following year) but because anyone they sign now should be able to help in 2015 and 2016. I'd definitely go out and give Drew a 3 year contract at this point then trade for De Aza, then call it an off-season. I would be very satisfied if they can pull that off.
  3. By all accounts the Twins are going to give Gibson plenty of chances to succeed, I think us fans who were so desperate for ANY starting pitching to come from within the system a lot of us assumed Gibson would be a savior. At this point, honestly he looks more like a possible #3 then a top rotation guy (which is OK). Gibson hasn't been passed by anyone IMO. Back to the discussion about Santana, I think you absolutely bring him in if the terms are reasonable (3 years), the starting pitching depth in this system is still very weak, Gibson and Meyer are the only two who look to have impacts possibly in the next 2 years. Guys like May, Berrios, Stewart etc are either still 3-4 years away (Stewart) or hugggggggge question marks (May/Berrios) All it takes is one army injury to one of Gibson/Meyer and the system is effectively baron again.
  4. Because De Aza has proven to be a legit (if not great) starting CF in major league baseball?
  5. He's not going to be an all-star but he is a pretty solid major leaguer. I view him as basically a lesser Denard Span (more power, less average, less speed at the plate) It should be noted, that even with his "down year" last season, De Aza would have had the third highest WAR on the WHOLE team last year. In 2012 He would have had the 5th highest on the team, in 2011 he would have tied for 2nd. Again, De Aza isn't some all-star player, but he certainly is a nice player (even if he eventually gets moved to LF) and for a team like the Twins they absolutely positively should be looking to bring in a cheap player like him, assuming you don't have to give up much to get him.
  6. Everyone has time for games.... I haven't played a RPG game since Zelda on Nintendo and usually just stick to pleb Sports games and the occasional FPS every 2 or 3 years....however, I bought this game and blew through it in a few days during down time (and staying up way too late) The game is utterly fantastic, I am a huge south park fan, and the attention to detail and the script were amazing. Also as a RPG noob, I didn't have much issue picking up the gameplay or pace at all. The turn base battles didn't even get old. I think the ending of the game lacks a bit, but that reminds me a lot of Team America World Police, I think at some point Stone/Parker sort of realized they just had to finish the damn thing! Still, amazing game, buy it. You will find the time for it Brock.
  7. Yeah, I agree. If the big three are gone I think the Vikes take one of the stud LB's (if they are still around) or just move down. I think this QB class is rather deep, I wouldn't be super opposed to grabbing a guy in the 2nd and another project in the 4th or 5th. Then filling out more or less every pick with a defensive guy (and maybe a solid 2nd TE in the 4th or 5th round) In Re: to Cassel, I don't mind the signing one bit. It allows them to cut Ponder's worthless ass after they draft a QB or two (in no matter what round) Also it keeps them away from the absurd thought of signing Michael Vick. Cassel actually had a few nice games for this team last year IMO (Pitt, Philly, Chi) I wouldn't hate him going in as the starter in week one if they draft a QB who needs some work. Frankly, I think if he started all 16 games the Vikes are probably a 8 win team last year.
  8. This would be a great signing for the Twins, you instantly go from having the worst rotation in baseball to one that could honestly be a top one in a year or so if Meyer reaches his potential. Sign Santana and Drew and call it an off-season! 85 wins, here we come!
  9. If the cost is right, go ahead and bring him in. He is a legit CF and has a league average bat. Once Buxton is ready you can trade him away. Willingham should not be in the outfield and should be a DH, Parmelee shouldn't be blocking the Twins from bringing anyone in. I like Hicks a lot but he still may need some more time in AAA, the only real OF the Twins have at this point who should be starting everyday is Arcia.
  10. I highly doubt anyone in the Twins org expects him to be anything more than a temp starter at most. Frankly, I would have been pretty confused if the Twins just handed the starting Catcher role (the guy taking over for one of the best C's in the history of the game) to a guy who at best has concerns about his defense, and has less than 100 at bats in the majors under his belt. Pinto is a nice prospect and all, and I think he can be a solid ML catcher, however he hasn't "earned" the de facto starting nod yet, let him earn it like all the other kids.
  11. Pinto is going to get plenty of chances to be the every day catcher for this team. If he doesn't start opening day people need to not freak out, if he does his job he will be the starter quicker then not. (I still think he cracks the opening day starting gig as long as he preforms half way decent in ST)
  12. Um, what? Please explain.
  13. Willingham is coming off a season where he was injured and ineffective (and getting older) it would be selling low on him at this point.
  14. With Sano going down, this team is severely lacking power bats. I think selling Willingham low at this point coming back from an injury would be a terrible move for the Twins to make. IF he comes on strong this year and the Twins fall out of it, then look to move him for a quality piece in return. No rush.
  15. IMO Mastro is not needed at all if Pressly makes it. Ramierez is a nice story and all, but there really should be no way he makes a roster over Kubel. Kubel has close to a decade of major league and minor league success under his belt, while Ramierez has nothing close to that, he doesn't hurt to have around as depth in the minors on a bad team like the Twins, but he really provides nothing moving fwd in the future, he is a good story/good guy no doubt, but the reality is, he barely has a case to be on a poor team's major league roster, and zero reason to be on a team that hopes to compete someday soon.
  16. Meh, I will learn how to spell a person's last name correctly once they provide me a reason to remember it. Up to this point Parmelee, Parmalee or whatever hasn't given me a reason to think he will be a meaningful player to track over the coming years (I hope I am wrong)
  17. is it true you like wearing women's underwear? IALTO
  18. I am very confident they won't carry a third catcher to start the season, their simply isn't a need nor is there room. Honestly, I would just prefer they lose the DH that one in a million time rather than put Mauer back at Catcher anytime as an "emergency". Also, if Pinto is hitting well enough to be a a part time DH candidate....then he will be hitting enough to be the every day catcher. If his bat becomes so valuable that you can't keep it out of the lineup (long shot) ala Mauer, then by all means explore the third catcher angle down the road.
  19. The only one I can think of is Garza, who neither Ryan nor Gardy had anything to do with. A couple left like Hunter and Cuddyer, but let's be honest, it was never in the Twins best interest to keep either one of those guys at the cost. Morneau seemed to have that kind of an attitude as well, the Twins have had players like that, and still do. The main problem the past few years isn't Gardy or the attitude of the players, its the fact that this roster hasn't had many good players at all the last 3 years.
  20. Can we stop with the amateur doctoring going around these parts? His 2014 season is done, not sure what a few weeks makes a difference at this point as it is an 8 month rehab at most anyways.
  21. Reported for the following: Spreading mis information Lying Extreme sarcasm Trolling Blasphemy
  22. A knee injury is rarely ever "minor", continuing to play with a nagging injury on the knee is absolutely a recipe for disaster, more so when you HAVE to play the field every day in the National League. Kirk Gibson of all people should realize this....
  23. I dunno, I could see this being the case if they completely fall on their face again this year and don't show improvement, however I think the Twins manage to win at least 72-74 games this year because of the improved rotation alone. If they do that, and get to .500/above .500 in 2015 (very capable) then you certainly can keep him around. Yeah, Gardy isn't perfect, but the guy has had success in this league, his players like playing for him, he is likable and knows baseball. I wish him nothing but success.
  24. I would understand this point if the guy the Twins signed was 35+, however Kubel is still only 31 and only one season removed from a .833 OPS and 30 HR. IF (and it certainly is an IF) he can stay healthy, he could be an asset for this team not only in 2014, but possibly moving forward in the future as well, he clearly enjoys playing in Minnesota, so if he can bounce back this year, he could be a nice affordable part time DH part time bench bat moving forward. If Parmelee lights the world on fire, then yeah, Kubel becomes redundant, but if he bounces back like he can, then he becomes a nice player to have on your team, especially as a part time player/bench bat. Again he is only 31, there is no reason why he can't be effective another couple seasons at a very cost effective rate.
  25. Super encouraging, those road splits alone with moving to Minnesota and working on his cutter.....give me a lot of promise, I could see him actually becoming a number 2 type guy (as was his ceiling) if things work out.
