  1. Butera for Nunez in a vaccuum is an amazing trade. I have seen him play at Yankee stadium several times, I think the pressure of being the next SS following Jeter affected him a bit, while I don't think he is going to to be some great player, he will certainly be a much needed upgrade for this current team and could surprise some folks.
  2. Well there is the very real possibility that Bartlett is and has been in fact injured....
  3. FYI: NASCARS SUNDAY RACE was postponed and moved to today at 12pm EST, 11am CST, 10am MST, 9am PST 7am Hawaii.
  4. I put $30 on the Twins to win the World series at 180:1 odds.
  5. This was the first series win the Twins had since Sept 3rd 2013..vs the Astros. This was the first series win at Cleveland since Sept 17th 2012.
  6. I feel this thread is getting way to off topic, this is for the discussion of NASCAR and the 2014 season.
  7. Just another thread clearly showing the Twins should be using these spots for quality guys like DeRosa.
  8. A week before Lincoln was shot he was in Monroe, Maryland. A week before Kennedy was shot he was also in Monroe. What did Teddy Kennedy say when asked if he would consider running for President? He said he'd have to drive off that bridge when he got to it.
  9. IF he starts a game in LF he might not even be the worst Twins player to start an MLB game in LF all MONTH
  10. Well, I for one have been saying all year that we should sign Drew based on his own merits and based on the 6+ year sample size that Florimon has shown us in the minors and majors for hitting.
  11. Ah, got it, didn't realize that. Well I'd still like to bring him in for a 2-3 year deal anyways. Hell, even at the right price for one year would be fine by me, losing a 2nd round pick isn't going to kill this franchise IMO, and as mentioned if he plays like he can, you could still net a solid return in the trade market should the Twins ship sink.
  12. How do you know Drew would only sign a singe year contract? IIRC he was looking for a long term deal all off-season.... you shouldn't speak in unfounded absolutes as it unfairly misdirects the thread to fit your personal narrative. It was known and reported that Drew was only looking for a one year deal, then your point would have weight, but as it stands IMO it just sidetracks the discussion at hand. Additionally if indeed it is only a year contract, as I mentioned above, then the Twins have a pretty decent chance of getting a 1st or 2nd round pick back in the 2015 draft (or keeping Drew for additional years) The Twins would always have the option of trading him later in the year as well if it was a one year deal and somehow Santana stepped up. Or if they fell out of the race. If Kubel, Colabello, Hicks all step up this year the offense suddenly becomes not too shabby, the rotation also has the potential to be decent as well, though not a huge contender, the possibility exists that they could stay in the race longer than many people thought, that is enough of a reason IMO to go out and spend some cash to booster the team, losing a 2nd round pick (when you could probably get one back if he did leave in a year) isn't something to keep you from doing that IMO.
  13. Suzuki is playing well for the time being, no need to force this issue yet. 2/5 is fine to start the season, once Suzuki starts to fade then split them at 50/50 and give Pinto a DH start once a week or so as well, if Pinto proves legit then make him the every day C. Hard to complain with his use thus far at this point to be honest.
  14. Nice to see Dale Jr. becoming a factor again, and while many folks hate the new playoff format, I LOVE it.
  15. Many would disagree, including one of the founders of this site.... FWIW: As I have mentioned, I think the moderators have done a very good job overall and more importantly have been more "fluid" flexible as time goes on...as has many of us posters.
  16. Too early to cut Bartlett IMO.
  17. Yeah, I think Florimon would be best suited to be in AAA, able to fill in at SS if Drew gets hurt.
  18. Sign him, send Florimon down. Keep bartlett around since you need the back up CF...for now. I think you live with Bartlett as the backup CF/super Util until Buxton comes up in June/July. (Then Hicks is the every day LF and back up CF) I have never been a huge Escobar guy...but meh, keep him around in that case as well I guess.. Ideally you get Bonaficio to be the new super UTIL guy though.
  19. Except the time they didn't go one and done and made the ALCS against the Angels of course.
  20. 1001! Hopefully he will be getting win 1100 mid April next year
  21. 3-3. The bats have been impressive, I actually have a feeling that Kubel and Colabello both could stick this year for sure, Colabello, though early seems to be hitting a stride, if the dude mashes that much at AAA, there is no reason why he can't hit against non elit pitchers in the majors! The pitching....is a concern, but Nolasco will come around for sure. Can't ask for much more then going .500 on the road, especially when 2 of those 3 wins were against a playoff team! Nice to see Hicks get that SF as well in the ninth, was worried he was going to fall into a deadly slump ala last year. Instead he battled back with two strikes and did his job, very very big change over last year. Also can definitely get used to Mauer at 1st base, not only is he playing on a Sunday day game (a rarity in the past) but when he did...he was fresh and did well! I bet he hits .340 this year no doubt.
  22. The Twins through the first two series have shown that perhaps they do have the bats to somewhat compete this year: The one glaring, obvious, ugly weak spot with zero help on the horizon: SS, Florimon just is not going to flat out cut it. The Twins still have money, and Drew at some point is going to HAVE to take a deal, I'd still like him on 2-3 years, but at this point, give him a one year deal, lose the 2nd round pick this year, and then you will probably get a 1st or 2nd round pick the following year (or you can sign him longer)
  23. Meh, spring training is a worthless time to evaluate players overall, ten fold that to veterans that have been in the league for over a decade. It's a long long long long season, to be frank their is no reason for veterans to be giving anything close to 100% in the definition of meaningless games. I'm 29 (which is supposed to be an adults athletic prime....lol no) play baseball in a wood bat league and even playing 3-4 games a week for about 35-40 games total breaks down the body quickly, I can't imagine what 162 in less than 200 days does, much less another 25 in 35 or so days prior. If Willingham is healthy he will hit just fine, fielding is another issue of course but he should be DHing sooner then later ideally if Buxton can make the jump quickly!
  24. The main issue isn't that the twins chose the last two spots on the roster with kubel and Bartlett, the main problem is that they had Parmelee, Pressley, kubel, colloblo, Worley, diamond and Bartlett to choose from for said last two spots. Throw a dart: none of those players are anything close to a sure thing and all have plenty of warts. As much as I absolutely love what the twins brought in pitching wise, they frankly failed completely supplementing the offense up until this point. How they don't sign Drew or Morales is baffling to me. My Dad who only casually follows the Twins put it best at the spring training game we attended last week "this is going to be a long year, it is the exact same offense to a T as last year" Kubel and Bartlett aren't ideal, but honestly... Can anyone say that pressly or parm are any better??
